Very helpful (and hopeful) responses. Thank you so much.
As a side note, I think there may be some issues with all this from an equity viewpoint. Essentially, GU now denies admission to anyone without a smartphone?

Thanks, SS. Since SS has Android and I have Apple, my situation appears to differ a bit from his. Additional advice from others will still be welcomed.

Stupid question from a Luddite who has never used a mobile ticket before: any idea why I am not seeing a barcode on my tickets when I save them to my Apple Wallet?
I'm paid up for the season, my "manage tickets" section in my MyHoyas account is showing all the games with my seats indicated, and I can view and save something that looks like a ticket with what looks like a horizontal barcode with a blue line running across it; but that barcode, which may be a dummy, disappears when I save the ticket.
The "digital ticketing guide" (https://wearegeorgetown.com/tickets/digital-ticketing-guide/) is not helping much because the pages on my phone have a somewhat different format from the samples shown in the guide. Perhaps importantly, there is no "view barcode" thingy to click on like the guide says. I fear that, while I have saved something that looks like a ticket to my Wallet, there is nothing that can be scanned when I try to get in. I must be doing something fundamentally wrong but don't know what. I've gone through the process for Dartmouth, American, and Syracuse, same result each time.
Feel free to DM me if anyone has a clue, and I will be eternally grateful!

NBCSN has had some good coverage of major international cycling events, as has the Olympic channel/network. NBCSN in particular has had excellent daily coverage of the Tour de France for the last several years. I really hope we don't lose those.

LoudSound (great name), I totally agree with your second paragraph. And I wouldn't argue that you're completely wrong in the first. But I think that, had Georgetown "won" those "meaningless" scrimmages by significant margins, a lot of us would be pretty encouraged by that. It's only natural to be concerned about what we have actually heard, meaningless or not.

I think the way most schools treat these situations is insane and that they give in way too much to outside pressure and do not let the process play out. I am glad that GU has more patience. To be fair, GU did not have that kind of patience with Big John's immediate successor.

I've renewed my season tickets but am unsure how much, or whether, I'll show up. My ambivalence has nothing to do with whatever qualms I have about the team - I love the Hoyas and for that matter love even generic basketball - and everything to do with the concern that I am at high risk for Covid. A crowded indoor event with cheering fans is a bit scary for me.

Personally, I am rooting hard for Patrick and the team to succeed, both on and off the court. There are some reasons to feel optimistic about that this season, but also some reasons to feel concerned. I'll be especially looking for two things:
First, much better player retention and team continuity. Everybody knows our troubling record on that front; heck, even this year we lost three players to transfer and another to an undisclosed disciplinary action (including two who would have been starters). That has to stop.
Second, it's time to win. I want a winning record in the Big East. That's not an unreasonable expectation for a highly paid coach in his fifth year. Go Hoyas!

Is there something better about missing short instead of missing long, or left or right? There seems to be a point being made that I don't get.

I suppose I can see why Ewing would make a list like this, but I don’t think it accounts for the overall trajectory of the program or just how challenging a situation he inherited. The team Ewing inherited was going to be bad for several years. It didn’t matter who coached it, it was going to be a rebuild. I saw the potential arguments for a change two years ago after the core of the team transferred away but thought he deserved another year. Then, he won the BET, made the NCAAs, and brought in an elite recruiting class. Ideally, we would see more progress this year, but I’m not personally convinced that Ewing should be on such tenuous ground. I just don’t see this as a make-or-break year. I don’t think the team that Patrick inherited was any worse than the teams that any new coaches inherit. In fact, It started two all-BE players and also placed two more on the all-freshman team. That’s not bad IMO.

One of my very favorite Hoyas. Anyone know what prompted this?

Should Ewing get a psychological test on the recruits and maybe a background check too while he's doing his due diligence??? I want to address this, because generally I love HFSEE's enthusiasm and refreshing posts on this board. In this case, I know it's a rhetorical question and stated as an extreme in a spirit of sarcasm. But I do think a head coach bears some responsibility for the character of his team and its players. I suppose the question is how much. Maybe I have a different take on this than most because, as much as I love the game of basketball and Hoya basketball in particular (season ticket holder for 15 years, frequent attendee before that), I actually care more about the reputation and integrity of Georgetown University than I do about its basketball program. For me, the most important job of the head coach and athletic department is to represent the university well, with high-character athletes who are also good (if not necessarily always great) academic performers. We must recruit and retain these kinds of players. Basketball success is second in my book. And, wherever the responsibility lies, I am disappointed that we have had so many conduct issues and disgruntled transfers over the past several years. This is not representing the university well; we should be better than that. It's embarrassing. So has been the play on the court much of the time. I want a team of high-character guys who *like* playing for Georgetown and, with only rare exceptions, enjoy finishing their career here, while also consistently winning on the court. Place in the top half of the conference or better. Earn an at-large spot in the NCAA tournament most years, and win some of those games, too. While I cheered as loudly as anyone when we won the BET tourney title, and I feel some of our recruits are promising, I'm not yet confident that we're on the trajectory I wish for. Maybe that's just me, but I don't think so.

I want to feel optimistic about this year's team, and I'll be rooting hard for them as always, but realistically I think we're likely to end up in the bottom half of the conference, and earning a tournament bid will be dicey. On the plus side, the roster seems full of "potential," albeit largely unproven. But on the other side, our competitors' rosters have potential, too, in some cases more proven than ours. Their coaches have more demonstrated success than ours, as well. And I think we lost a lot in Jamorko and Jahvon, and to a lesser but still significant degree, in Q and Bile. I've gotten to the point where I'm mostly hoping (1) we don't have discipline and transfer issues again and (2) we can surprise, and be better that I suspect on the court.
On the debate about Dante, I think it's OK on a sports forum like HT to have differing opinions, though I cringe when disagreement becomes personal. I think he's good with the potential to be very good, but the consistency isn't there yet. I like it that we seem to have decent backups if he falters. I like Carey, too, but am maybe a little less sanguine in my assessment of what I've seen from Tim than others seem to be. I'm very eager to see the team on the court: that's a heck of a lot more interesting than speculating and debating in the abstract!

I absolutely hate losing TJ, mostly because, like Jagan Mosely and Jonathan Wallace before him, he seemed to be exactly the kind of kid I want representing a university I care about. I also think he could have evolved into a very good player. I don't blame him at all for leaving given the circumstances, but it's a significant loss in my book.

The NBA is pretty much irrelevant to my enjoyment of Hoyas basketball. Others may feel differently, of course.

I know that Don has another year of eligibility, is he able to "grad-transfer" again? Literally just watched the guy shoot a 3 over him with minimal effort to get in his face. To be fair, they have shot threes over just about everybody today.
