I am so glad social media weren't around when I went to college. I'd be mortified if family members and such were tweeting about me all the time.

For those of us who don't follow Dante on Twitter, what are people talking about?

FWIW, the ONLY reason I haven't used my season tickets this year is because of Covid. I wouldn't be surprised if GU has a somewhat older-than-average fan base so maybe, as BigManU suggests, that accounts for some of the empty seats. But I have no doubt that, for potential attendees who are less concerned about Covid than I am, some of the dropoff is due to the general decline of the program over the last 5-7 years. It's a sad situation.

All these mentions of Perry McDonald today make me wish I could remember him more than vaguely. Alas.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I love three-point shooting with lots of passing to find the open man. It's beautiful basketball IMO, and I much prefer it to watching our players repeatedly barrel into the interior. Our play looks like chaos compared to Nova's. Dunks and offensive aggression designed to draw fouls do nothing for me.

Wasn't Terrance Williams local? Of course, his commitment to GU didn't last long.

I do think there may be at least one difference between fans with close personal ties to the university (as alums or something else) and those without: I do have a GU degree (in my case law, not undergrad) and, although I am a passionate hoops fan, I care far more about Georgetown University than about Georgetown basketball. As a result, the off-court stuff, transfers and decommits bother me a lot. Winning obviously would help, too, as the example above about Villanova suggests. A winning team built of players and coaches of high character and strong academics is my ideal. But I worry that has become a hopelessly outdated view of contemporary P5/6 collegiate athletics. I hope we turn the program around with great kids who really want to be here, but I am worried about whether it's going to happen. OK as someone who has a differing view, even about the school I graduated from, please explain it to me. Do you think the school's image affects your personal image? I couldn't tell you the last time someone asked me what school I went to unless I am in public and we are both rooting for the same team. Is this a high society thing? While I am very successful and my social circle is pretty successful none of us came from money and none went to the level of school Georgetown. In fact the only Ivy League guy I know is pretty low on the success totem poll of our group so we tease him about it more than anything. We are all self made whether through business (most tech) or sports though I am well aware that in most instances the world is run by who you know not what you know. I do understand that going to a school the level of Georgetown means you are likely to be surrounded by successful people that will help you later in life. What I don't understand is why the players the athletic department produces has any influence on any of this. I am really trying to figure it out as it is something I have long thought about but never really understood. For me, it's not really about "success." More that I want the things I am associated with to do well. And I am definitely not "high society": I don't think it's relevant, but neither of my parents had higher education and, in fact, were living in public housing when I was born. I went to school on scholarships, loans, and odd jobs. Most of my career was spent (I'm now mostly retired) working for a nonprofit. I like feeling good about all that, including the Georgetown part. It's really that simple for me. I accept that folks here have different reasons for rooting for Hoya basketball, and I enjoy the differences and diversity among us, united by our basketball fandom. And, for the record, I generally enjoy your posts, hoyainla. Peace and Hoya Saxa.

One of UConn's starters (I forget his name) was held out, though, because of a scary fainting episode the night before. I don't think today's result is indicative of their strength.

I'm a bit surprised that Carey hasn't gotten more love in the comments. I thought he was our best player, making key plays on both O and D. Maybe we're taking him for granted because he isn't flashy?

I do NOT hate Patrick Ewing. I have been rooting hard for him to succeed and will continue to do so as long as he is coach. Hoya damn saxa,
But our record the last several years, starting frankly during the last 2-3 years of JT3's tenure, is pretty bad. And, maybe it's just me, but I find the record off the court even more embarrassing than the record on it. We wouldn't be such a young, inexperienced team now if we had retained players and recruits, and developed them over time. And we haven't been very good at that.
As for today's loss, I was pleased at the bright spots. The opening of the second half was really exciting. But the saddest part of the ultimate collapse and result, for me, is that I have gotten used to losing games like this. I'm only surprised in that we didn't make it closer.
Please, lease beat American soundly. Life is hard, ya know, and watching basketball should be more fun than this.

We’re always rebuilding while the other team has stability and a great offensive scheme to beat us. Maybe my biggest problem with the last several years.

I'm not going to lie. I'm disappointed. Glad we played better in the second half, but Dartmouth was the better team today.
And I know we're young. But I'm not happy that the reason we're young is that three players transferred out and a fourth got himself kicked out of school. Let's step it up and show today was a fluke by winning big next time out!

We're playing better, but three pointers are really hurting us.

Spacing, passing, drive and kick, and rebounding are all things that need a lot of work. I would add shooting to that list, and then we've pretty much defined the game of basketball.

Q had a big night last night in Maryland's first game. It remains to be seen how he will do over the course of a season, or how we will do without him, but IMO we never should have let him get away.
