Any other guards to focus on for next year, or is this just another scholarship to save for next year? Do you really want 6 freshmen on the team next year? I'd say save it for 2012. That big of a freshman class guarantees a whole lot of turnover 4 years from now. I'd rather have them spaced out a bit more.

Good point on the turnover a few years down the road. Also, we're pursuing so many solid '12 prospects that I think we would be wise to use the scholarship for that class.

Updated depth chart on front page with AP story. I feel like Otto of Greg should go behind Hollis on that depth chart. Otto of Greg? Is that a character from Game of Thrones?

Good luck wherever you end up, and thanks for your efforts as a Hoya, Jerrelle.

We need to stop these claims that Coach yanks any kid's scholarship, because it doesn't happen. Yes, he is very honest about the chances of playing time each season, and what a player would have to show to stay in the mix, and I certainly believe that with the players we have coming in it was clear to Jerrelle that he owuld see little if any time. But he was not "let go". It was his decision. I didn't imply he forced him out, but he did let him go. If he wanted to keep him, he could have not recruited several players that play his position(s) and/or told him that he had nothing to worry about in terms of playing time, etc. And I'd like to know how you know that coach is honest with the kids about playing time and the guidance he gives them - are you in those discussions or do you talk to the players/coacheas? We need to stop putting JTIII on a pedestal also. I'm sure he does what it takes to win like everyone else in his profession that has any success. His public persona at least is to be very tightlipped about everything, so I wouldn't assume he has very open relationships with the players. I am sure that JTIII did make it clear to Jerrelle that with the players coming in, it was very possible he would see little or no time, and that he discussed the options and possibly even encouraged a transfer if Jerrelle raised that possibility. But that is different from "letting him go", which certainly implies cutting him loose or yanking his ride.

Bummer. Goodbye to the Benimonster. Best of luck to him, wherever he goes. I never thought he deserved the flack that he received in the stands and on these boards.
I still hope that we can cut down on the transfers, to more of an average of one or less per season. Is that too much to ask? Of course, I said something similar three years ago. I hope transfers do not prove to contribute to JT3's undoing.
Onward and upward. Hollis, you really need to come back.

I feel like Jerrelle will end up like Marc Egerson did after he transferred -- a good undersized rebounder at a mid-to-low major, providing a lot of effort and hustle for his team, and even potentially leadership. Egerson had a better all around game and would certainly have played had he stayed at GU, but I could see him providing a similar solid level of play for a school like Delaware.

No one can fault Jerelle's effort. If there is blame it belongs to the Staff for recruiting someone whose game was not fully developed to the point of contributing on both ends of the court. Unlike Vee, who had very little game time and opportunity, at least no one can question the fact that Jerelle was given the opportunity to play.

Honestly this is great news for everyone. Im sure Benemon was a great guy but he has no game. I hope he goes to a nice Division three program like worcester state and becomes a beast. Thanks for the memories...

I wish Jerrelle Benimon. One of my favorite Hoyas of recent memory.
The young man gave it all that he had. It may not have been much from a talent standpoint, but it was still all he had. Thats all you can ask from player.
I wish him success in the future, on and off the court.

Do you really want 6 freshmen on the team next year? I'd say save it for 2012. That big of a freshman class guarantees a whole lot of turnover 4 years from now. I'd rather have them spaced out a bit more. I'm nitpicking a bit, but we may actually already have 6 freshmen for next year. Bowen will likely be a redshirt freshman.

Transfers hurt our graduate rate figures right? At a certain point this is going to kill our program. III loses a ton of players to transfer, which you wouldn't expect from a pretty successful, ranked program. If a transfer is academically eligible at the time he leaves, it hurts our APR a lot less.

I just wish we had more than 2 guards on our roster.

I wish Jerrelle Benimon. One of my favorite Hoyas of recent memory. Seriously? I give you that the guy hustled, but to what end? That's like saying Mark Madsen was one your favorite Lakers of recent memory.

His petition for a redshirt was approved? That's good news. reports here were that Bowen was introduced as a redshirt at the banquet, and the Voice also referred to him as a redshirt in an article, but I'm not sure if it's been officially announced. edited my post.
