“I don’t know much about the schools so I have to go make visits. My mom went to Georgetown University, in Washington, so she’s rooting for that school,” Walker says.
No way is he going against Mom!

BTW, Coach Kenya Hunter is becoming a recruiting beast. This guy goes hard and is all up and down the North East. Me likes what he is doing. Important contribution there on Hunter. We can post threads all we want about this recruit or that recruit, but it won't amount to anything if our recruiting goes the way of the buffalo. We need our coaches to pound the pavement now more than ever. Thanks also to the recruitniks who are posting all of the information from Atlanta and elsewhere.

Tonydeals, is he a "recruiting beast" because he is making inroads with quality recruits or because of his effort. Hopefully it is both and not just the effort.

CrownMagOnline.com seems to be a decent source of Canadian recruit information. Not much on Walker, except that JYD was a coach in a recent all-star game in which Maurice participated.

he was voted Mr. Ontario for what that's worth. And Pitt and Minnesota have also gotten on the recruiting trail on him.

Yeah, I am fine with taking a project if he is a big and letting him develop on the bench this year. It is just as well that he is going to Brewster for a year, although I would have preferred a school closer to DC. Gtown will have its schollie situation straightened out in the Spring, so I can see a player like Walker getting that potential 5th schollie.

Seems like a great kid with good potential. Would love to see him be a Hoya. You would have to think we have an inside track given his mom being alum, Georgetown's cademic and internation reputation and our history with big men cannot hurt either!
Also, nice to hear about Hunter's prowess on the recruiting trail.

per nbe: OBC got past Team Takeover-Canada to make it into the finals. Team Takeover - Canada big man Maurice Walker. In the range of 6-foot-10 and 270 pounds, Walker uses his massive body effectively and also has great hands and touch, a must to be a quality big man at the level of the Big East, something Crownover feels Walker can be. Walker will be attending Brewster Academy this fall.

He is certainly a player Gtown will monitor closely for this summer/fall/winter. He just needs to keep working hard and be dedicated to getting better and in better shape. It is very similar to Roy, so I am sure the staff will be following his progress at Brewster.

Question for deals....Is he much of a shotblocker??? Cause it didnt look like he is a "quick leaper" takes alot for him to gather himself for a leap? Just watching him run in the youtube video of that all-star game, he seems to move very well. No actual footage of him doing anything in that game, was mostly focused on Coudgan and Thompson, but he definitely looks like at least he can move a little bit. So he wouldnt be as much of a project as Roy was in terms of that.

I agree here. I'd actually be shocked if we didn't get this kid based on this. Our only competition is Pitt. He's not going to Buffalo or Nebraska. As for a project, we have the spots, so we might as well use them.

Quick trivia question - who was the last Hoya to attend HS in Canada?
Hint: Hockey player's last name

Per ESPN: "Walker is gifted with the attributes of a very successful basketball athlete. He is very strong and has a huge frame to add muscle and tighten up as he matures. During the tournament this week, he showed a relentless effort to bang inside with the men and his natural gifts served him well. He hammered down many impressive dunks in traffic and ran the floor very well for a man of his size. Walker is not afraid of contact. Right now, he needs to continue to demand the ball in the post as his teammates sometime overlooked this talented big man. His back to the basket jump hook and drop step are very polished going to his right hand, but he needs to continue to improve on some counter moves and going to his weak hand." sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=4338300
