I think our class is complete whether Monroe returns or not. We're losing 3 guys after next year, so having as many guys who can play, with a year of experience, would be important going forward - if the guy can play as many of you seem to think. FF, if Monroe stays, this issue is moot. If he leaves, I still think the class is complete. The PFs/Cs we are targeting in 2011 are better. Also, I don't think Mo would get minutes next year and in 2011, I think most of these guys we are after would leapfrog him on the depth chart (even with a year under his belt). (Greg), Julian, Henry, Jerelle, Nate, Moses...I don't see Mo taking minutes from any of these guys next year. Mo wouldn't take minutes from Rak either (some of the other guys, it's debatable). But this discussion is also hypothetical because Mo doesn't even have an offer from us right now.

Based on recent history, I'm not sure if that's a great assumption. Also, I'm not convinced that Walker wouldn't play ahead of Bennimon or Sims, even if everybody is back. That said, the latest Scout article quotes Walker as saying Minnesota may now be his favorite and he may commit there during his visit next week. Which is interesting to me for 2 reasons: 1) Tubby Smith's name keeps coming up in this year's coaching carousel, and I'm certainly not convinced that he'll be at Minnesota for the long haul. Word is that Tubby's unhappy because Minnesota promised him a practice arena that hasn't come to fruition. 2) Minnesota has a more crowded situation at Walker's position than Georgetown does. The Gophers have both Colton Iverson and Ralph Sampson III at a true center position, both only going into their junior seasons. Not sure where Walker thinks his playing time would come from as the 3rd center on the roster.

Recent ESPN evaluation of Walker:
"Maurice Walker (6-10, 270) | Grade: 92 | C Rank: 8 Toronto, Can./Brewster Academy (N.H.) He is a Canadian transplant that has developed his game in the New England prep ranks. He is a space-eater that is a huge presence bumping and grinding in the paint. Although he is limited athletically and is better suited for a team that likes to play in the half court, his combination of size and soft hands will be in high demand during the late signing period."

goodmanonfox SCOOP: Sources told FOXSports.com that uncommitted Brewster Academy big man Maurice Walker will sign with Minnesota.

Good luck to Mo. Didn't think he was going to land with the Hoyas. Will compete with Iverson and Sampson for minutes up front. Another Canadian native to Tubby. He's still trying to land Cory Joseph who is also Canadian (and whose brother already plays for Tubby).

Walker will be brought along with idea of changing his body--Gophers hope to get Mbakwe back after his trial this Summer, and Tubby does a nice job with bigs. Royce White is gone and hasn't shown one improvement off the floor in terms of growing up.
In addition to Sampson/Iverson, Gophers have a 7'0 kid named Elliot Eliason coming in--and he's someone Gopher staff likes a lot.

I thought Tubby had left for Oregon.
