Perhaps get Maurice & Moses together. Let them decide which one will become a Hoya. I would be OK with either.

I am surprised that we aren't talking more about this guy right now. Is he clearly inferior to Moses at this point, because his size alone makes me covet him. We are on our 24th page of Moses drama and nobody has said a word about Walker in that span, but word is he's still got us on the short list. So what's the reason he's not getting more hype right now? Because of the Pitt problem, because he's not as good as Moses, or because he seems to be a long way from deciding? Or none of those? Its mainly because he committed (before de-committing) and we didn't think we were a legitimate player... Walker committed to Pitt? Don't recall seeing that.

Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.) center Mo Walker trimmed his list to four schools this week, and he said Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall and Rutgers made the cut.
“I’m looking for a school with good people that I can relate with,’’ said the 6-foot-10, 275-pound Walker, who grew up in Toronto. “I want a good team, a good program, a good school with good academics, a place that’s close to home, and stuff like that

If you remember, back in November, at the end of the signing period, there was lots of talk that he was definitely going to Pitt. His coach at Brewster even said he couldn't see him playing anywhere else. Mo said he liked how they developed Blair. However, the twist is Pitt doesn't have room for him unless someone transfers or someone doesn't qualify. They have two guys graduating and they already have three commitments (although there is talk in Pitt that one of their guys, JJ Moore, might not qualify). Also, Cleveland Melvin (who decommitted from UConn) is also now listing Pitt.

Walker has made clear that he wants to go to Pitt but they don't have the schollies to get him (or don't seem to be impressed enough to make room for him). Walker and Abraham are different players. Walker alludes to how he wants to be the next DeJuan Blair while we get the Ewing references with respect to parts of Abraham's game. Clearly itd be stupid to expect that type of play out of either of them, but you can see how their games might be different. The staff then also has to take into account which of those games are going to be more valuable/less redundant given the guys we already have. For example, if we get Walker we'll be expecting Henry to be a defensive presence next year (considering Nate/JB/Walker would overlap a decent bit).

JTIII's system seems to work perfectly well with one useless guy on offense out there on the court. I won't name names, but we've seen it this year and in years past. So I'd vote for filling the big man spot with the best defender possible and then rely on the guards and one other forward to satisfy the offensive needs. Next year, even without Monroe, we should be fine offensively.

Yeah, The Post-gazette guy who covers Pitt said a couple of weeks ago (3/2) in a chat "I don't know why" people keep talking about Walker when they don't have the schollies, and then laid out their depth chart w/o Mo. he also acknowledged Moore's potential problem. IIRC from earlier in the thread, there were some concerns about his weight and conditioning. Anyone know if those have improved?

Weight/conditioning look to be ongoing issues with Walker. He is sort of a cross between Onuaku and Sweetney in terms of body type and looks to have that capacity to balloon. Nonetheless, he's a good player around the rim and has range beyond the arc if left open (judging from recent Brewster Academy footage on YouTube).

If people think Julian is out of shape this year (or thought Austin was in the past), then they won't be impressed with Mo's conditioning. The kid is 6'9/6'10 and gets listed at anywhere from 265 to 280. I will be generous and say he is a 275. Compare that with Moses who is 6'9 and between 235 and 240. Is Gtown possibly getting the next Tractor Taylor!?!?! I don't think the Mo situation will be figured out until after Pitt figures out its schollie situation. I disagree that Pitt does not have interest in this kid. One of their assistants was still attending his games in late-Jan/early Feb. If Mo ends up a Hoya, I sure hope JTIII has him on the Hibbs running regimen this summer.

I don't think Pittman is a good comparison. Pittman weighed almost 400 POUNDS in high school. He lost about a 100 pounds. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=oneil_dana&id=4777616

If any of those comparisons are apt, particularly the Sweetney/Onuaku (or even Tractor) ideas, then we should be pushing hard. Sweets was a dominant presence down low. Besides, there seems to be as much need to bulk up Moses as there would be to slim down Mo. And after watching Hibbs and Monroe struggle to add upper body mass, I'm all for trying it the other way. Not a knock on Hibbs and Monroe at all, but just to say that bulking up isn't so easy either.

I don't think there's really any reason at all to think that Walker is going to have a career anywhere near any of those guys, people are just throwing out names of other guys who were good players despite being overweight. Nothing abnormal, it's just like any time we recruit a big guy who isn't very good people talk about how he could develop like Roy did. In terms of more realistic comparisons, how about this guy, who mentioned us several times in high school but we never showed much interest in: herdzone.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/goode_marcus00.htmlOr this guy, who we easily could have had but passed on: nusports.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/rowley_kyle00.htmlIf Walker was a big man with any legitimate potential, in the spring semester of senior year, he'd have a ton of programs on him, including the best in the country. Instead he's got Pitt who has no spot for him, Georgetown who really doesn't appear to be making him a priority (instead going full blast for a guy who is averaging 9pts per game), and Rutgers and Seton Hall, probably 2 of the worst "high major" programs around, 2 teams who really haven't recruited very well in a while. I really don't know a ton about Walker, so, who knows, maybe he will turn out to be a competent player. But just looking at his recruitment, there's not a whole lot to be excited about IMO. If he was 6'10 and a legit banger/post presence, he'd have a ton of suitors right now. Instead, he's got SHU, RU, and Pitt and us stringing him along in case something else goes awry. IMO people have a tendency to see a tall guy with bulk and think he's going to be a banger who owns the boards and pushes people around. Doesn't always happen that way. I think he may just be a tall guy who likes snacks too much, who isn't particularly athletic and who plays below the rim. Again, haven't seen more than a little bit of the guy, so a lot of this is inference.

His mom has wanted him at Georgetown all along--and Pitt is still recruiting him--they just aren't going to run a guy off now on eve of NCAA Tournament. They obviously are going to make room for him--and he's a talented guy--he can play--just needs to firm up/drop some lbs--but he's got touch, good footwork, and nice post moves. Think Hoyas were holding off for various reasons-but he came for unofficial in Fall, and will be taking an official this Spring--especially with Cirque De Moses taking the tour nationwide. ;D

he is a below the rim type player though, not a fan of that, rather have a kid with some lift, even if he has less skills.

Dense, my only concern with skill vs. lift is the following - no lift means we suffer against more athletic teams, no skill and the whole system grinds to a halt. Vernon had plenty of lift, as did Jeremiah but lack of skill did them in... Take Julian for example, not a "lift" kinda guy but because he has a decent shot, can pass and is generally skilled, he commands the attention of a defender therefore keeping the spacing for the rest of the motion intact.

Oh I completely see your point. I said that more because of the guards we have coming in can run and will hit the big man in transition...much rather have someone who can run and finish potentially. I think Macklin would have been much better in our system with Chris than the team he was on. Same with Markel and Vee they both can get out and run and will give it up to a big guy who can catch and finish, or drive and dump off for a dunk. Wallace couldn't really do that for Macklin.

Walker is also an excellent passer. That is a big plus and some of the videos online show him making some great passes.
