Yeah, I get the same feeling. Also, feel like he III may not wanna damage chances with 2011 bigs by bringing in Big CC, uh I mean Mo. LOL. I think the kid wants to be a Hoya, but hasn't gotten the call he's lookin for. Just imo.

Brewster midnight madness. Check out Mo. He does look heavy but he has a great feel and can't shoot from outside. I think he would be a good pick-up. Here is Brewster's roster. It is ridiculous. www.brewsteracademy.org/RelId/610519/ISvars/default/Roster.htmBarton (Memphis) and CJ Fair (Cuse) are also in the team. They both look really good, especially Barton.

I like his size. With Sims on the front line for another two years, we could use a beefy guy like Walker inside. He was actually less thick than I expected him to be. Reminds of of Orinze from Syracuse.

I wouldn't say it's a done deal yet.
Spoke with Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy coach Jason Smith just before I headed to bed last night. He said it’s unlikely that Maurice Walker signs early. Pittsburgh seems like the school to beat though.
“That’s definitely his leader, but I believe his parents would like him to take another visit to have something to compare it to,” Smith told Scout.com.

good pickup for Pitt if this holds up. I trust JTIII has the situation under control. (Give us Christmas!)

Amongst my quibbles with the recruiting is that we do seem to not have a "bird in the hand" strategy. We seem really picky, and honestly, not all that great at projecting. Maurice Creek will prove that out a bit -- though I admit there aren't too many examples of it biting us badly.
If we're not recruiting Walker heavily -- there's obviously something they want to see from him. We obviously saw whatever we needed from Markel and Nate. But it does seem like we hold high standards then sometimes really settle on the late signs.

The downside to being overly selective is that a program can get caught with only 7 or 8 decent scholarship players - what with transfers and early departures etc. In this day & age a program really should aim to have 4 good scholarship players per class, since many will not stay long or pan out. Then let the chips fall where they may.

We definitely seem to get some top guys. But it seems like our projects just seem to be more projects than they need to be.
Then again, there really isn't much of a trend given I don't know how good our late signs from this year reall are.
But you are right that its part of the reason our depth is awful.

I think its a good thing if he waits for him.....As for us, I've gone on record that if Walker comes here the 2011 Bigs will not sign here, its not as thought we are domintating leaders for their services anyway. I myself would rather have Jordan O, because I think his ceiling is so high once he gets some actual work with legit bigs in college. But I know there are other bigs that are gonna be better.

Walker himself should wait if he's only visited Pitt. He should get at least one reference point at minimum, if not more.

I don't understand the quibbles with JTIII's recruiting. There are lots of things that happen in recruiting that this board is not privy to. Having said that, we have not offered Mo up to this point (and I doubt he will commit in the fall). And you have to think big picture (if we can land Rakeem, you take him any day of the week before Mo). It's not like we are hurting in our 2010 recruitment. We have Nate and Markel and we are still in the (serious) running for Jelan and Tony (Mitchell), as well as others like Roscoe, CJ Leslie (and even guys like KC Ross Miller). In recruiting, you win some, you lose some (and that applies even to the guys you get). As JTIII likes to say, "you don't really know a player until you get him into the gym and can coach him yourself (no matter how much you talk to the kid or watch him in a gym, you don't really know exactly what you're getting)".

I'd like Jordan O, Rakeem and Mikael Hopkins from that class. Then I'm good. You'd have a true 5, a 4/5 and a 3/4. That's versatile enough for me.

That's a great quote. Granted that the 2011 bigs are better, but won't we be a tad small next year. Henry strikes me as more of a perimeter player, and that leaves just Julian (and maybe Nate) to bang inside.

Nate will definitely bang...my guess is he's the leading rebounder on the team his freshman year. That said, I think it would behoove the team to try to bring in another big in 2010-2011. Vaughn, Sims, Lubick is not enough inside. Perhaps Bennimon will surprise and produce, but I wouldn't count on it.

Based off of quotes from coach I fully expect benimon to contribute at least defensively and rebounds. Coach said he might be the best post defender. and he grabed 17 rebounds a game in highschool. I'll be happy if he catches a 1/4 of that.

Bennimon could be a sleeper. A great knack for rebounding in HS. A little scary to be counted on in the Big East though...

Bennimon could be a sleeper. A great knack for rebounding in HS. A little scary to be counted on in the Big East though... Not to toss water on this fire, but I just want to remind people that everyone's favorite Montenegrin, Sead Dizdarevic, averaged 22 pts and 14 rebounds in his senior year of high school. High school stats, especially in less populated areas, are frequently not accurate indicators of high-major performance. To say that Jerrelle will be able to significantly contribute to the team this year is a major stretch -- I watched him in Kenner. People tend to get swept up in optimism at the beginning of the season, and I am all for the excitement and "anything is possible" approach, but let's inject a bit of reality into these discussions.
