Should Latavious decide to decommit, b/c i dont think he signed officially, do the Hoyas get back involved as the logical backup for him? I know pride says you dont wanna be a second choice, but at the same time... No way. Georgetown was his first choice and then he got "intimidated by the academics" as in "you have to go to class" so they became his second choice. Reality--he came on visit/ran pickup/wasn't impressive and was passed over--and told by guys on team/coaches that you DO have to go to class.

I echo everyone else's sentiment that this comes as no big surprise. The question is how the hell do coaches get away with this? Memphis gets crapped on, but who was pulling the strings....Cal of course. It is unfathomable that you can commit an infraction, leave the school, and not be held responsible. What is this Porky's or Dukes of Hazzard where you just need to get across the county line and you are untouchable and get to thumb your nose at the sheriff? If you are the coach at an NCAA institution that gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar you should be held accountable!

I was just kidding about Rose. Clearly, they wouldn't have made it that far without him. ESPN reported tonight that Calipari was not "named" in the report but was asked to attend the hearing. Whatever the heck that means.

yourseason.suntimes.com/1595888,052709-derrick-rose-ncaa-investigation.article check out last line by AAU coach...... ‘‘[Smith and I] didn’t know anything about his test,’’ Topps said. ‘‘Reggie [Derrick's brother] moved me and him out of the way long before that, as soon as the money got involved.’’ I haven't checked out urban dictionary but is it possible that "money" is some kind of street slang for "highest levels of academic integrity and institutional commitment to compliance and discipline" because then this would totally make sense. Does this mean Wall needs to attend Syracuse basketball practice too, or do they have a different definition of community service for basketball players in KY?

So, do we think World Wide Wes was the one who actually sat and took the SAT for Derrick Rose, or did he just pay someone a hefty amount of money to do so?

If you read the CST link that graegle posted, it seems most likely that an AAU teamate of Rose took the SAT for him. That at least is the gist of the latest scandal emerging from the team (a new one, not involving Rose).

If true, I guess we could never really be sure if Latavious legitimately passed the SAT or if this was another case of MU fraud. Perhaps this is why the story broke now, prior to Williams being officially accepted into MU. Who knows how many times they have played this trick and maybe it was about to happen again with LW. I am fairly certain there will be a little more scrutiny on LW's SAT result than usual if it comes back positive.
Calipari never ceases to amaze me. He is as sleazy as any coach ever in cbb, but he always seems to escape any real punishment. When is the NCAA going to get serious about this stuff and monitor well-known offenders? The NCAA should have a permanent field office in Memphis and So Cal (USC) to watch over these programs.

It's going to be a beautiful day when they finally nail Cal. Maybe then I'll stop being bitter about the '96 East Regional.
(I doubt it. But it may help.)

I've always been a major critic of the NBA age minimum. This whole situation stinks to high heaven, but can someone who was following at the time tell me if Rose was the caliber of HS player who would have gone straight into the league? If so, it's just another instance of a player who should be allowed to go into the NBA exploiting the college ranks for lack of another option (I know a lot of these kids weren't looking at going to Europe at the time... but sooner than later a lot of them will be going).

unfortunately the thread is mis-titled. Calipari is not named in the report and looks to me like he'll skate again.
Kentucky should know better. Eddie "bags of cash in the mail" Sutton (ironically I think the incriminating envelope was from Fed-EX) got kentucky crucified for two years while he got off with a "failure to control the program" slap on the wrist while admitting no wrong-doing. He showed up in Stillwater coaching OSU a year later

It will be e perfect off-season if the NCAA nails: Calhoun, FLoyd, and Calipari.

The NBA shouldn't be getting rid of the age limit simly because some lazy guys don't want to study and because college programs are all too willing to allow them to slide. That's on the players and the NCAA. If some guys don't want to go to school then they can go overseas or play their Wii systems for a year until they are eligible. Doesn't matter. People need to stop acting as if its a crime that these kids can't jump immediately into the NBA.
