Well might be true, if you were playing and worried about what is next, but none of the three who just announced for the PORTAL have had a good experience so why not wait to see who is next then join the portal? Maybe (but unlikely given our administration), enough players entering the portal will motivate a timely decision on a new coach, to allow at least the possibility that some of them can be successfully "recruited" to stay.

Good Lord the darkness on this board is painfully depressing. Hopefully the search is swift and we can all get behind a new coach and a new era very soon.

Why do people think Gtown Athletics would have any preference at all for a Catholic school hire? This seems like very ancient thinking that was probably never true. Hell GU didn't fire a Jesuit to run the school 3 decades ago....now an ND athletic hire (who just retired) has some sort of edge based upon some increasinly meaningless church identity? Gee I wonder what Congregationalist is going to get that next big teaching job at Harvard. I saw an online rumor that Cotton Mather XXIV is the leading candidate.

Boeheim out at Syracuse....didn't know it was a double countdown!! Is it coincidence that a legendary coach becomes available just a day before we hope to be searching??? (*ducks for cover*)

I will still hope for a win, can't bring myself to root against the Hoyas.
But I expect a loss. And it won't bother me a bit.

The paranoia about us going on a run and winning a Big East title, somehow saving Patrick's job is beyond misplaced. Two years ago we were 6-4 in our last ten conference games and had a KenPom in the low 70s. We were a good three point shooting team, despite not having an offense that created open spot up threes and we had improved through the year. We shot well in the Garden and caught a little luck with Nova's injuries. Our Kenpom is currently 219 and we are horrific from 3. According to Kenpom the math to get to 4 wins is approximately 5,300 to 1. I will be fervently rooting for four Hoya upsets. I doubt that we will even get one. And Ewing will be gone. Exactly.

I think it has already been negotiated, including the language and the timing. Remember, there has basically been zero indication of any recruiting for weeks and months. So they all know. Patrick, Jack, the Board (hopefully Ronnie). They all know.

This is why I think you see an announcement today or tomorrow. It guarantees the reception the administration wants, guarantees no embarrassing signs, etc. Remember the only “embarrassment” that means anything to Jack is Patrick’s (otherwise how could we possibly be where we are now?) and my thinking is Patrick would find it more embarrassing to have to coach as a lame duck and/or have to face a press scrum over how it all fell apart than for there to be a few signs that MSG still might choose to confiscate at the behest of GU and/or of their own feelings toward the Knick legend (and frankly, I doubt any of us going will vent with a sign anyway: the goose is clearly already cooked here. Then again, I don’t think any “thanks for the memories” signs will be hoisted) So my money is on Sunday — buried in selection Sunday news and the day before the portal officially opens — via press release only (only because they have to say something— this is still Georgetown) and PE already on an Island someplace and thus will only have to answer questions from handpicked, supportive pals (Wilbon maybe?) at a time he chooses. This. Although I think it could be Friday during the traditional "news dump" window when the media is focused on the conference tourney semis and finals.

I stand by my comment. I don’t have confidence the school forces him out. It will be by "mutual agreement" of course. But the simple fact that as far as anyone can tell there has been no serious recruiting for months says everything we need to know. Keeping Patrick would mean outright revolt by the fan base - organized protests, slashed booster support, attendance figures in the low hundreds, and constant media ridicule.

I don't think an announcement would change the smattering of applause he would get either way. I don't think Patrick wants to coach a game as a "lame duck" coach anywhere, much less in the garden. And as much as the fan base wants to see him relieved of his duties, the school is not going to fire him and then have him coach.

You all really think Patrick would want to coach a game after an announcement he is being fired? He could care less about a sympathy round of applause. Monday the 13th is most likely, although I could see it next Friday to try to have the news partially obscured by the conference tournaments and escalated bubble watch.

"It was a disappointing effort to start. As the head of the program, I have to take the responsibility - I didn't get my guys ready to perform, I need to come up with a better game plan." - Head Coach Patrick Ewing (from Guhoyas.com) I will say that is the most I have ever seen him take responsibility. Two thoughts come to mind: 1. Wait, we have game plans? Seems it is just to roll the ball out and let 'em play. 2. He only has to come up with one more "game plan".

What are the odds Georgetown keeps Ewing for another year? 0%. He hasn’t been seen recruiting since like November. He’s gone. Gotta think this is right. Another win or two does not change the fact that the program is abysmal at this point.

Hinkle is a tough place to play, but then again it is Butler. Ain't gonna have a chance without solid defense and rebounding. So - no chance.

3 hours before game time - and the last post on the game thread was 20 hours ago. If the university does not recognize the slow death this program is undergoing (and yes, I realize they may recognize it and just not care) . . .

Don’t sleep on fact that it will take a week or more to “negotiate” the departure AND conference won’t want an announcement distraction during the BET. If I had to guess I’d put it at more like 45 days (right after opening weekend in NCAA, which may also serve as a bit of a diversion). Not saying it SHOULD be this but who among us thinks this will be handled well? Probably true, but I was thinking more of the last time we will have to grit our teeth through yet another loss
