Why not allow him one thread, and he is only allowed to post there. He can call it “ 100 6 Million Reasons Why Georgetown Made a Mistake Hiring Coach Cooley.” No one will pay any attention to it. Fixed it for you A worthy edit. Hope the idea gains momentum.

So, we have Jayden Epps throwing down a monster game against Wake -- it's a scrimmage but that would be the best offensive game in a Hoya uniform since Mike Sweetney and 4 OTs, right? -- and then follow it up with 22 points in 20 minutes in the scrimmage.
I get these aren't real games, but isn't anyone else super encouraged about the potential for a real leap by a high upside player? Ignore the troll; stop talking about something as absolutely pointless as attendance in a pre-season scrimmage (seriously, it means literally nothing) -- this seems to me to be a potential real development.

Friday night of Halloween is not the best time to do something like this. Thursday would've been better. It’s October 28, the game started at 7 pm, how long does Halloween last these days? Excuses much? You’re a hemorrhoid

Agreed. Anybody complaining about the attendance at last night’s event is just trying to be a muckraker. I don’t get it. I have no problem with criticizing Cooley where it’s due, but some people just want to complain about him. What are the facts? - Georgetown was horrible, very horrible, under Ewing. - Georgetown has won 2 Big East games while the current sophomores and juniors have been on campus. - Ed Cooley is our coach. Even if you don’t like him, he’s going to be coach for a while. Likely 5+ years. So maybe give him a chance, even if he’s not your top choice? - Georgetown students, on a good day, aren’t super sports fanatics. So you have what, generalizing 7,000 undergraduate students and you expect to fill a 2200+ gym for an event for a basketball team that, in the last two years, gave casual fans zero reasons to support them? - By all accounts, the toxic environment and atmosphere that we had because of Ewing/Ronnie Thompson is gone and replaced by the most open transparent and welcoming coaching staff Georgetown has ever had. Basketball starts soon, and we have the most reason to be optimistic in YEARS, and some people will still complain about salaries and other sideshows that don’t even have anything to do with Ed Cooley himself. How about supporting this team, players, and staff who are about to embark on a tough rebuilding journey on the court? I’m looking forward to doing it.

Can we finally do something about this troll? If the Admin were going to do something, it would have happened long ago. I am not sure why they allow him to lay a turd in every single party punch bowl on this board and detract from everyone's enjoyment. No one has absolute freedom of speech. In fact, it is not even relevant to a privately owned board. I propose that we put it up to a vote. If Boya gets 20% of vote, I am fine with his staying, but if the overwhelming majority would prefer that he is banished, then banishment should happen. Healthy communities regulate who is allowed to a member of the community. You know my vote

I realize in advance that this is going to come across as excuse-making, but Pitino has several advantages over Cooley that allows St. John's to be more of a major player this upcoming season, and one of those advantages was inheriting a program in much better shape. However the key advantage of them all may be familiarity. Pitino knows New York City. He recruited there when an assistant at Syracuse and as a head coach at Providence. He spent plenty of time in that city for Big East tournaments. Most crucially he was the coach of the New York Knicks for a few years, a stint that is remembered fondly by New York fans. He is able to sell the return of St. John's not just to the school's faithful but to the NYC community at large because that community is very familiar with him. Even beyond the borders of The Big Apple, he is a household name across the nation to sports fans. He is a master of the media as few college basketball coaches have been. Add on his amazing tournament success and multiple championships and it should come as no surprise that he is ahead of Cooley in terms of returning his current program back to prominence.
Good for him. I'm happy for St. John's. That program's return to major relevance is good for the Big East. Yet while he may win the sprint I feel very comfortable about Cooley winning the longer race. I love what recruiting doing, particularly on the recruiting front. I think its important for Georgetown to NOT be awful this season. Anything better than that is gravy. If the Hoyas surpass all expectations and make the dance then that would be great; if they fall short of that but show fight and competitiveness that would be a step in the right direction too. The real results will start being realized in season two.

I think the excuse this season will be rebuild, injury and lack of bodies. Next year’s excuse will be we got some good players but they need seasoning. Year three will be the true test in my opinion. Rooting for Ed.

It certainly creates a thirst for seeing it with our own eyes. Partnering that talent with a guard with tremendous vision and passing ability like Brumbaugh and if reports are true a Big like Fielder and he may not have to create every one of his shots.

[/quote] Unless the program unexpectedly lose a player or two, the Hoyas will be competing for the BE crown in Year Two. They may well have a player in Epps who could be a leading contender for BE Player of the Year next season, a guy who can be a go-to player at the end of games. They will have Drew Fielder who in the past couple of weeks has been generating the a type of behind-the-scenes buzz that has been, at worst, second only to Epps. I have repeatedly come across highly promising assessments of his capabilities and potential. And by this tie next season he will be seasoned. The same can be said of Brumbaugh who has also been generating some positive responses on his play in practices and scrimmages so far. He just needs to shake some rust off. Now that UConn seems to have struck out on all its five-star recruiting targets, it appears the Hoyas will have the best recruiting class in the conference. These new additions will arrive in a season in which the current predicted top half BE teams will have to make major adjustments to losing their All Big East players. I am convinced that Sorber can be as good as any Big East center next season. He could end up being the best big man the program brought in since Greg Monroe. That said I'm just as high on McKenna. Not a whole lot of highlights out there on him but the ones I have seen as well as my live observation of him in the KL this summer showed to me he is a 6'8 tremendously skilled and offensively gifted prospect who can REALLY shoot the ball. Mulready is a ridiculously athletic guard who already has a college-ready build; a kid with all-around skills on offense who also works as hard as anyone on the defensive end. He (along with Fielder will) add an explosive element to the Hoyas lineup. Caleb these days may be underrated but lets not forget he was recruited by highly successful programs for a reason. At worst he's an elite glue guy who can do everything for a team. He is also a winner and bringing him in further helps Cooley plant the Georgetown flag in the DMV. Not to mention the return of Cook, Bristol, Stylez...maybe Mutombo. There will be depth, there will be a good number of players ready and able to contribute. I feel the Hoyas will have the conference's best front court. Season two should be amazing.

"Friday night’s scrimmage was the first test of Cooley and the program’s steady and coordinated outreach to the student community since the spring. Cooley and his staff have put a heavy emphasis on student attendance at home games, and with no official Georgetown men’s basketball event on-campus for students to attend prior to Friday, the scrimmage provided the first data point to see how successful the program’s overtures to the students have been so far. By the time the actual scrimmage began on Friday, there was one section of the McDonough Arena stands mostly full of students (the middle section on the east side of the arena), with the section on the left pretty empty, and the section on the right about 25% full (with a mix of students and non-students). Other students interspersed with alumni and other non-student fans in the stands on the west side of the arena. In total, McDonough was likely around half full. Best (very rough) guess here for student attendance? I’d estimate about 300 students were there on Friday, with the majority of the crowd consisting of alums (like myself) and normal fans from the community. For a program that has had the last two seasons that Georgetown has had, they should probably be OK with those attendance numbers! At the end of the day, student support will only markedly increase if this program starts winning again. Until then, they are going to have to work hard to turn out the students and be OK with mediocre attendance numbers to show for their efforts at first." hilltophoops.substack.com/p/blue-gray-scrimmage-georgetown

For anyone new here, don’t be surprised that boya chose the single most negative snippet from the article cited above to paste here. He‘a a boya, that’s what he does. Read the article yourself - there are observations about the good and bad and lots of glowing material. Here is a snippet many might prefer as more indicative of what we might see on the court:
“Hustle, hustle, hustle
I was struck by how hard everyone was competing, considering it was just a scrimmage. We have heard from Cooley and his assistants about how much they preach work ethic and hustle with their players, and it seems like those lessons have already begun to take hold with this team.
Things like Supreme Cook fighting for every rebound like it was his last and Donovan Grant taking charges in the paint stood out especially to me, for what was supposed to be a friendly intrasquad scrimmage.”

This part of the article, written by an extremely pro-Cooley source, shows that my comments were accurate. Additionally, the policy of the board is to provide snippets of an article rather than cutting/pasting the whole thing - which would be especially egregious for a piece as long as Hilltop's recapping Friday night's scrimmage. Hopefully the lack of attendance will be a wake-up call and we can do more to create a homecourt advantage once the real games start!
