The students at Gtown right now were in elementary and middle school the last time we went to the NCAA tournament, and in middle school and high school the last time we had a winning record. And you want a guy who has been here 7 months to turn all that around and fill put 2200 butts in seats for a scrimmage on a Friday night? And, BTW the night wouldn't have mattered. We can suggest better nights to have held the event but you'd be missing the point. The kids have only been on campus for 2 months during which there's been some buzz -- most of us agree that EC and Co. have done decent to pretty great outreach to students and the bigger community -- and exactly ZERO games have been played. What exactly were you expecting, and why do feel the need to panic and badmouth the whole thing? It took a bunch of years to reach the low point of the program -- it's gonna take time to straighten it out and get good again. Apparently the "gotta be patient" and "this is gonna happen, but it's going to take some time" chats have once again been thrown out, and those who choose to let their impatience and frustration with the last 7 years have decided to go all negative on Cooley because they didn't fill McDonough on a Friday night. Says to me that you won't change minds and hearts that have had little to be excited about in MBB here for a long time in the 2 months since school started and no games have been played. Get real. Understand that the way real life works -- real change takes time, and all indications are that we are heading in a positive direction that will get us back to great basketball on the Hilltop in the coming years. Don't let your skepticism and snark prevent you from enjoying this season and this group of players this year. They're going to play hard and represent us well -- have some fun and support them! 11 days, people -- let's go!!! I agree with all of the above. The night isn’t the reason. This is an apathetic fanbase and student body and I’m not sure any hire would be moving the needle right now. If Pitino had come instead, and the exact Top 25ish roster he has at SJ, I don’t think the attendance is markedly different. Perhaps the buzz and media attention would be higher, but I highly doubt this scrimmage would have McD filled to the rafters. That all being said, given the home run that the first 30 days of the Cooley era were, the last 150 or so have been a little underwhelming. I expected a little more, whether that be another player, a recruit, buzz, etc. But that’s a subjective measurement. Now the games will begin and the results will speak for themselves.

I truly hope that very soon we can move off the "Cooley narrative" and just focus on the kids that have committed to the program this year. Cooley was not my choice and neither was Pitino. I have nothing invested in either one, but acknowledge that both have a proven record of coaching success--something we have not seen on the Hilltop in years. We have an undermanned squad made up of kids who have something to prove. These kids chose to come to a program that has been completely dismantled through ineptitude and apathy. Three chose to stay despite the embarrassment of the past two years. All had options to leave or go elsewhere.
I know from my own children what the demands are on college athletes. It's easy for those of us in our recliners to sit back and complain about what this team isn't. These kids did not go 2-38 in conference the past two years. They deserve some support until they show they don't. There will be plenty of time for them to be criticized for any failures on the court, but for now it should be alright to celebrate their willingness to try and bring back this program to respectability, hope for the best and stop focusing on how far the climb back will be. Enjoy the moment with college basketball about to start. We can all begin to complain soon enough as this road will certainly have bumps.

Boya could've posted this picture after it filled up. But it doesn't fit his agenda.
I'm sure though since Boya is such a great recruiting link poster that he's mentioned about Acadien Lewis, Jordan Scott, Wahad and others being in attendance...oh wait he hasent...I'm shocked. But us not making Derik Queens final list or a top 100 list with us not in it and Boya runs here to post faster than a greased pig at chow time.
Stop feeding the troll. He's a keyboard warrior with an axe to grind. It's been obvious for years. He should've been banned from these parts eons ago but the mods give him more chances than a dime store hooker on nickel night.

There was also a photo of Mark Fox and Acaden Lewis laughing and hugging. I think we have a good shot with him. Caleb seems to be in his ear about joining him. Also it seems the staff is backed off Nyk Lewis so maybe they are putting the eggs in the Acaden basket. Jordan Scott would be a huge pickup as well. Also seeing Mckinney mention us alot has me very excited for what 2025 will bring. Seems also that they may bring in one more for 2024, don't know about that but I'd just wait until the portal opens and pick 1-2 players out of there to complete next years team, like a guard that is a shooter if Bristol doesn't come back.

We are in the "bust" portion of the Pitino or Bust movement, as in, the Pitino-first crew (boya, bigsrus, casual, Philly Hoyas) are going to bust on and throw shots at Cooley all year long because Jack DeGioia didn't choose the guy they wanted. Their sour grapes anger is directed at the wrong guy, boya's complaint seemingly over and over is his salary and what Georgetown pays for the program, and yet he never mentions DeGioia - it's all about Cooley. That's very curious.
I try to keep up with what Notre Dame is doing because I think they are the best comparison to our situation currently - kenpom #165 vs our #159, Micah Shrewsberry was our supposed option B, they didn't fill their roster with scholarship players because they are focusing on 2024 recruits and they have quite a few walkons - they haven't held any public events like a public practice or Midnight Madness events. I think Shrewsberry is a very good coach and they are going to be successful, but it's heartening that they are doing similar things recruiting-wise with Cooley and our program seem to be doing more outreach to build a fanbase and NIL.

Couldn’t fill McDonough with free tickets, wow. Yay Coach Cooley, pay the man $6M, stat! Were you there?

Anyway, here's the last time Georgetown held one of these in 2019:
So congrats to Ed Cooley for presiding over, by a significant margin, the largest attendance at Georgetown Midnight Madness event in at least 5 years.
Seriously though, "Georgetown held one of these" is what you're looking for, among the many modest tasks of the massive rebuild.

Friday night of Halloween is not the best time to do something like this. Thursday would've been better. It’s October 28, the game started at 7 pm, how long does Halloween last these days? Excuses much? Well, my college aged junior daughter walked me through the 4 costumes she has for Halloween this year. It is different now.

Going on my ninth year with the Hoya athletic programs and a frustrated lover of Hoya hoops. This is a time of year to be hopeful, to see all that's positive against the last few years backdrop, and look for progress. We all don't get what we want, but extreme negativism at this point of the year really does no good other than a poster being able to come back in the future and say "I told you so". So I try hard to avoid hoyabxya's negativism even though he may see it as objectivism. It is not needed now when the coach in place seems to have an excellent resume' (and I recall hated playing against his well coached teams) and wants to do everything to right the listing ship. He has made a good, but not Pitino like start, and gives every impression of building for the long term, not just an instant transfer portal injection of talent.
So, I for one, have suffered through two students eight years here, while loving basketball, and will give support and hold out hope, and have patience with Ed Cooley. I think he is doing it the right way, and will be an asset to Georgetown hoops for years. Hoyaboya, we have heard you, so why not dial it down instead of looking the clown.

Can we finally do something about this troll? If the Admin were going to do something, it would have happened long ago. I am not sure why they allow him to lay a turd in every single party punch bowl on this board and detract from everyone's enjoyment. No one has absolute freedom of speech. In fact, it is not even relevant to a privately owned board. I propose that we put it up to a vote. If Boya gets 20% of vote, I am fine with his staying, but if the overwhelming majority would prefer that he is banished, then banishment should happen. Healthy communities regulate who is allowed to a member of the community.
