5 in both polls. Gonzaga, Indiana, Kansas, Duke. We should be 4, but the voters will outweigh the BlueDevils undefeated record with Kelly over their loss to an unranked team to begin the week (who lost to BC today!).

I think we are ranked 3rd, 4th if the voters are stupid. No way we are ranked 5th.

The real question is whether we get any first-place votes. Gonzaga is good but nobody has gone out on the road and done the kinds of things we've done.
I'm also betting some dip decides that after a 3-point home win, Duke now deserves first-place votes with Kelly. The Gregg Doyel column today about how Duke is now a "dominant" team after that home victory is a classic example.

Any chance we get any #1 votes? Given all the carnage that has taken place at the top of the rankings recently, along with the fact that some voters may not be sold on Gonzaga, I wouldn't be shocked if 1 or 2 voters are convinced for our winning streak.
If I had a vote, I couldn't tell you who would get my vote, but I think 4 or 5 schools would be in the running. Georgetown would certainly be one of them.
Although I think Gonzaga will be comfortably #1, I also think that the number of schools who end up getting #1 votes might be pretty high.

I'm no big fan of Duke but they absolutely have an argument for number 1 - I'd initially went to look at their schedule so I could talk about how overrated they are but it's just flat out impressive*. The only argument I could see is that they haven't had too many big away wins but it's mitigated by the fact they've had some really nice wins on a neutral floor.
I do think we should get a couple #1 votes in the next poll too. I also think our resume matches up favorably to Kansas
I can see people quibbling w/their conf sched because the acc is kind of weak this year - but their ooc looks better in retrospect.

The ACC isn't kind of weak this year. The ACC sucks this year outside of 2 teams. Duke likely won't drop more than one slot because Kelly is back. Ryan "hey, don't bother guarding me from 3 Miami" Kelly. I bet we're 5 regardless of the fact that everyone but Kansas and the Zags lost ahead of us. Who has Gonzaga played again?

Nitty gritty report shows all kinds of stats showing how we stack up against the other contenders. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/nittyWe know that one of the voters, from Springfield VA, is going to favor us with a #1 vote AGAIN. This time, maybe more of the voters will join him since the past week is sure to find a lot more vote splitting going on. www.pollspeak.com/component/option,com_psreport/Itemid,3/lang,en/p,49/r,V/s,22/t1,124/t2,/v,619/w,17/

The ACC is extremely weak and any solid team they've played on the road they've lost to. Their conference losses are @nc State, @miami, @md, and @uva. Duke will most definitely get #1 votes this week, but their schedule doesn't look all that impressive to me. If anything, what they (and Indiana) don't have is a "bad loss" like a lot of other teams at the top which is the only real plus I see them having over some others. We have the dreaded USF loss, Kansas has TCU, Michigan has Penn State.

That bodes well for us to be #1 or #2 on his ballot tomorrow.

We have the dreaded USF loss, Kansas has TCU, Michigan has Penn State. I already felt dirty defending Duke but I'll bite. I saw the same thing but when you're getting at teams that are this good you have to split hairs. That means the spanking we got from pitt and the loss to an awful team like south florida should count against us (which is why that nitty gritty report above is incomplete - the Kansas loss to TCU should outweigh any of their marginal gains in other areas vs us and Duke). W/respect to Duke's away schedule - I agree it's weak but there are very few teams who have neutral court wins as impressive as Louisville, VCU, Minnesota and Ohio State. If you want to use away wins a proxy for a teams' ability to play in an environment that isn't favorable to them like the tourney then those wins should count. Also at the end of the day our coaches are intelligent enough to realize how to game computer rankings so we should be punished for scheduling 4 cupcakes as abysmal as longwood, western carolina, american and liberty when we could have switched out a couple for merely mediocre mid majors. That said I think we should be 1 seed right now along w/Duke, Indiana and Gonzaga(though I'm willing to see them replaced by another team).

Why is our "Non-Conference RPI" so high (now 5th) when our "Non-Conference SoS" is as we've all recognized so incredibly low? What does that number represent?
In addition, you may recall that Duquesne and Liberty were foisted upon us for participating in the Legends Classic. Scheduling Longwood, Western Carolina and AU are all our own fault of course. Thank goodness Towson overperformed.
