Wow, lucky to get out of there with a win considering our unintelligent play. Really disappointed to see that we are still a three man team, and nobody new has decided to make themselves a factor on the offensive end. Vaughn, Sims and Benimon should be ashamed honestly. Lubick was alright on D and the boards. Speaking of unintelligent play: it's been 4 years now so can someone please teach Chris Wright not to barrel into the lone defender on fast breaks when he has numbers? That will be my lone nitpick of the night.

If there's another series, the next home game vs. ODU should be at The Booth, not McD. Agreed. With tonight's game, the one thing I agree about with the ODU announce team is that this is, in fact, a rivalry now. I think we do need to continue to schedule them (but not in McD anymore). Screw UMCP. I could care less about playing them. ODU is probably the more successful program lately anyway.

The TV broadcast was not for TV... it was for the JUMBOTRON in their venue. Completely different audience and production requirements.

Bottom Line- Down 8 in the 2nd half on the road against a good team in a difficult environment. We showed some toughness and made the plays we had to and got the win. Go Hoyas!

Hard to tell from the radio, but it sounded like the big three played with cojones in a sloppy opener. That's a good sign. Outside of the big three:
Julian Vaughn: 2-11 FG Hollis Thompson: 1-10 FG
Those numbers must/will improve. Nice to be 1-0, no matter how sloppy the game.

Gotta hand it to ODU and their coach. THat is a tough team. Well coached. Great effort. Good first game for us. Lucky to walk out with a win! A chance for our guys to prove themselves in the last 5 minutes of the game.

Quality Road Win.
I was extremely excited when I saw that the game was on channelsurfing.net (even if it was for the Jumbotron, it got the game across). Maybe not beautiful, but we learn and move on, but with a Quality Road Win to start the season

Worst part about those JV and Hollis numbers is that at least half of those were layups. Early but unacceptable. JV looked like sophmore year JV out there. Hopefully it was an anomaly.

Dan you need to buy a slingbox for a friend in DC. Best way to catch hoya games for those of us not in the area.

What a WIN!
Was it ugly? Yes. Do we have LOTS of problems to resolve? Yes. But all I can say is that these are our beloved HEART ATTACK HOYAS and you better get used to it...
Expect some growing pains with lots of up-and-down play over the coming games. As long as we continue to learn from our mistakes and continue to improve, this could be a very tough team come the Big East tournament and beyond, but it's obviously way too early to tell.
It goes without saying that we need to improve our play across many fronts, especially in areas that we should be able to control (like sloppy turnovers). We need to make big strides in defense and rebounding, which requires everyone, not just the big men, to take care of business.
Now on to the big men. I have faith our front court play will improve significantly as the season progresses, but tonight Lubick was really the only bright spot. One game does not a season make, so I still have high hopes for Vaughn, and it's really impossible to tell if Sims will contribute in a meaningful way, but at least the coach had confidence to put him in late in the second half.
It's going to be a crazy ride, so fasten your seat belts and remember, you gotta book your tickets for the non-stop express train to MEGAFANLAND soon, lest you want to get left behind in the dust.
LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!! LET'S GO HOYAS!!!

Being on a bus and trying to follow the game via hoyatalk posts made it seem like we were down by 15-20 with people shouting "game over". Remind me to never follow a game like this again considering we were never down by more than 8. If you're a freshman, I forgive you for thinking the game is over with an 8 pt deficit and 6 min to go. But everyone else needs to Shut up. Word. We shot horribly on open shots in the first half, held our own on rebounding and beat a very good team on the ROAD. I'm no JV-lover, but he won't shoot 2-11 again and Hollis won't shoot 1-10.

Although they only combined for 8 points, Lubick - Vaughn - Thompson combined for 17 of the Hoyas' 27 rebounds.

This was a huge win! Look what happened to last years team against ODU. And that was supposed to be a much better team than this years Hoyas.
