Sloppy sloppy sloppy sloppy sloppy game.
Much better second half when they shook the rust off. 11 TOs in the first, only 2 in the second.
Very tough opponent on the road.
A lot of stuff that needs work but the raw material is there.

We'll take every ugly win we can get this year - but wow, do we need some production from more than 3 guys!

Let's not do that again, shall we...
Happy with the outcome, and the grit. That's sort of what you get for scheduling a real game on the road for game 1. It's a win, albeit not the prettiest one. Hopefully we're better for it come 2011.

Holy crap that was way too close. Great job by the hoays to battle and prevail over a tough tough ODU team. Our backcourt> then everyone!
Great job by Nate boarding and great job by everyone involved. very proud of the team tonight. great win!
lot to knit pick but just way too happy with this win right now.

All that matters in November is winning and winning on the road at ODU (a Top 50 rpi team) is a GREAT way to start the season. I don't care about stats or that our 3 guards scored 90+% of the points. The boys won after facing adversity late in the second half and that is ALL that matters. No one plays pretty in Novemeber. Nice Win HOYAS!!!

And, of course, my recording stopped at 9 p.m. @%^@%$^&@$
Positives: 1. Nate Lubick can play. And will. A lot. 2. Seniors started out awful, but came up with the onions when it counted. 3. Beat a probable NCAA team on the road in the opening game of the season.
Negatives: 1. I don't want to dwell. A lot to work on in the pre-season. 2. The ODU broadcast. 3. The refs. 4. Hoyatalk panic.

III got a laugh from the ODU coach after the game. I'm almost certain he stole a line from Pops and said, "Great game. We'll never schedule you again."
Can't read too much into anything, but we would have and did lose games like that all last year. The effort was terrific.

It's the usual suspects of Hoyatalk!

Seriously, was that not the most poorly produced telecast ever? Did they turn it over to the ODU A/V Squad or something?

Hopefully it was a leaerning experience for this team. Coming back on the road against a quality opponent can only help down the road. Love the fact thta JT III has the guts to schedule these early games, even if they are hard on the stomach. Chris and Austin great jo in coming back but have to hit those FTs in the last minute. Have a feeling they will be there alot this year.

Wow, lucky to get out of there with a win considering our unintelligent play. Really disappointed to see that we are still a three man team, and nobody new has decided to make themselves a factor on the offensive end. Vaughn, Sims and Benimon should be ashamed honestly. Lubick was alright on D and the boards.

If there's another series, the next home game vs. ODU should be at The Booth, not McD.

Being on a bus and trying to follow the game via hoyatalk posts made it seem like we were down by 15-20 with people shouting "game over". Remind me to never follow a game like this again considering we were never down by more than 8.
If you're a freshman, I forgive you for thinking the game is over with an 8 pt deficit and 6 min to go. But everyone else needs to Shut up.

My takeaways: 1) We better get more balanced quickly. Can't believe we only got 8 points from people not named Freeman, Wright and Clark. 2) Related to that point, very slow start for Julian - but I'm hoping it's an aberration. 3) Excited the coach had so much faith in Lubick. I think that bodes well for the rest of the season - he should be a major contributor. 4) Great win against an NCAA-bound team on the road! This will count come Selection Sunday!
