I will post this before knowing the final result because my opinion will not alter win or loss.
Nothing has changed. I still have the same exact concerns that i did last year.
1) Their is no post presence, which is absolute must for the Princeton to work
2) We have barely improved our rebounding
3) 1 backdoor cut all game that worked
4) We make no adjustments at any point
5) Chris Wright is not the right PG for this team
6) We have no spark off the bench, I don't blame Hollis he is just to young.

Also please don't tell me about our talent level. Yes we are not the most talented team in the country but we are more talented than Temple, by far.

I think the rebounding is better. But the defense has been awful.

What a bunch of nonsense. First of all, I'll say as a disclaimer that I haven't watched the game, I've got it DVRd to watch tonight (though not sure I can stomach it).
But I don't have to watch to know that to say from this one game that nothing has changed is a bunch of crap. Perhaps nothing has changed, but no one knows that yet. If we want to judge by the UConn game last year, we were a good team. How'd that work out for us?
We may very well be as bad as last year, but no one here knows that. But, and I know that it's pointless for me to say this, let's at least give it a few games before we throw the towel in.

Something changed... they won this game. They wouldn't have won this game last year.
Nothing has changed with this board though.

The big change is they came back to win a game. Last season, by the end anyway, this team would have never been able to compose itself to do it. Also, I could not watch, but it seems like the rebounding is better and I am guessing defense considering we just won a game in the 40s.

The rebounding was better. Lavoy Allen got it going in the second half, but last year he'd have had Blair-like numbers.
The defense was atrocious. Temple made 2-3 outside shots all game, but we gave them dunk after dunk in the second half.
In fact, if they could shoot FTs, they win.

Look i would love to be wrong, but do people really feel they have seen a giant progression? Yes we won, i am thrilled, but did this game not look just like the last 18 from last year?

Not having seen it yet, I don't know. Either way, it seems like we need at least a few games to really tell anything. Again, judging by UConn last year, we were good. So if that game was an outlier last year, who is to definitively say that this game isn't just an outlier this year?
The statistic that bothers me the most though was their 11 O rebounds to our 5. Giving away 2nd chance points last year killed us, and it concerns me that we may do that again this year. We'll see if that holds up.

I don't know what game anyone else was watching but Beantown is right- nothing has changed. Oh, but we came back to win it- we wouldn't have done that last year, you say? Did anyone watch the game? We called timeout and did the same thing we did last year- mess around the perimeter with the ball for 30 seconds and Wright puts up a desperation 3. We were lucky that Temple didn't hit their free throw at the end of the game and we got another shot and Monroe decided to move his feet two inches and actually go to the hoop.
But, what has changed? Wright is absolutely the wrong PG for this team- there needs to be a steady, calm presence to actually run the system. The one thing I wanted from him this year was for him to not look like he's been shot out of a cannon every time he touches the ball and that's still what he does. What has changed with Monroe? He still doesn't do what he is capable of in going to the hoop.

The better OOC and BE teams are going to kill us if we play like today on defense. Sw, when you watch tonight, please count how many wide-open shots Temple missed and let us know. That cannot happen against better teams.

Either way, just glad it went in! Happy the team pulled out the win. Going to give the team more than 2 games before trying to read too much into 1 game. Go Hoyas! |

It is silly to be too negative this early, but (here I go) neither Sims nor Monroe is a good defensive player, and Sims was basically atrocious at both ends of the court today. Sims may improve and play smarter, but I don't know if we will ever see strong interior defense from anyone other than Vaughn on this team. They just don't have the instinct for where to be on the floor.

He's really solid when he's the helper with Vaughn in the paint, but he gets very soft with his challenges when he's the primary post defender. |

Monroe was a bad help defender last year and remains a bad help defender this year. He doesn't challenge shots, yet he still manages to lose his man for easy buckets. I agree it is important for him to stay out of foul trouble, but today he had 1 or 2 fouls and still didn't help effectively. He just doesn't seem to know where he should be.

Our FT defense. Last year teams shot 70% against us, one of the highest percentages in the NCAA

The team still plays for Georgetown.
The uniforms still say 'Hoyas.'
The colors are still blue and gray.
I still love 'em.

You can't rebound like that in the BE and expect to win. It's one thing to be out-rebounded, it's another thing entirely to be not rebound at all.
