You can't rebound like that in the BE and expect to win. It's one thing to be out-rebounded, it's another thing entirely to be not rebound at all. I didn't think our rebounding was a problem. Temple has top level Big East size, we did fine on the boards. We need to start running an offense and making open jumpers when they come up.

They were awful today, but extrapolating to a full season is silly.
Anyone who saw these guys versus Tulane knows they can play better. Temple is better than Tulane, but not so much better than level of competition was the only difference.

I'll give you that Allen is a BE-type post beast, but a lot of his O-boards just felt like a complete lack of effort from us. I saw a few plays where someone would have him boxed out, and 2 guys would stand around the post watching him fight for the ball instead of going for it themselves. You need to rebound as a team in those situations, and we've never been particularly strong at it.

Yes, because we played a bad game in November, it means we haven't improved at all and can't improve on next year. And no good Georgetown team has ever played a bad game in November, or played any games like we did last year, so obviously one game= no improvment. And nothing has changed, I mean we always got key defensive stops and big rebounds in crunch time and always went to Monroe for the winning basket and he definitely always delivered. That was definitely how every game last season went down.
I knew this was how this board was going to react the second we started playing badly. There were a lot of similarities to last year, but there were also a lot of differences. The biggest difference is last year they were playing this badly in March, this is November. Its to be expected. And honestly I don't know what most of you expected. There were a lot of things wrong with last years team that can't be fixed in the offseason. Things like learning to respond to being hit in the mouth. We did that tonight. Just relax, its November, we will hopefully get better.

This game reminded me of ODU in 2006-07 as far as the team looking out of sync and unable to hit a shot. Except Temple is better than ODU was. Oh, and we won this time.

I guess what concerns me is the visible, palpable frustration of the players when running the offense doesn't yield results. I know it may be their fault and it isn't the "system," but something is not clicking here. As the mantra goes, you need to modify the system to the players, not the other way around...i know this is only the second game, but the second half had me in a cold sweat and triggered painful flashbacks of the second half of 08-09.

Agreed 100%. I'd just like to see some other sets get worked into our scheme that we can turn to for minutes 25-35 of the game, which is where we typically seem to get a bit flat. Shake it up, keep teams on their toes, force our guys to do something different for a handful of possessions.

Haven't read the rest of the thread. But how can anyone think nothing has changed after today's game?
EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED FROM LAST YEAR!
We showed great mental toughness to win this game. We got stops when we needed them down the stretch, and we scored when we needed to. This team showed me a lot today. I'm greatly encouraged by today's game. Yes there were negatives in the game. But the way we came back and the heart and mental toughness we showed let me know that this year will not be a repeat of last year.

Sometimes, during this game when the crossing guards [CW, AF, GM ] picked up drib on the perimeter, I thought I could see their thought balloons.
As they pulled the ball up to proper chest-passing posture, the bubbly oval said, "
"Let's see. Practice Six, Topic Two: adjusting to defensive shift on base-line pick - look for - a. backcutting forwatrd; b. kick to weakside; c. why isn't everyone active?
In-activity might mean poor conditioning.
Otherwise it was o'k. {That's o'k. for O'Keefe.}

1) Their is no post presence, which is absolute must for the Princeton to work 2) We have barely improved our rebounding 3) 1 backdoor cut all game that worked 4) We make no adjustments at any point 5) Chris Wright is not the right PG for this team 6) We have no spark off the bench, I don't blame Hollis he is just to young. 1) There, they're, their. I agree that this is troubling, but I disagree that it is an absolute must for the Princeton offense. Princeton teams didn't usually have too much of a post presence. 2) Similarly troubling. I am concerned that we don't have the necessary aggressiveness among the bigs. 3) Other teams now expect this of us and play to stop it. What was more disturbing to me was the number of poor attempts to force the pass when it wasn't there, resulting in the high number of turnovers. 4) This has been a continuing concern for me. I'm not sure if it is disciplined dedication to a system or a true lack of in-game ability to adjust, but it has been downright frustrating. The lack of execution following a time out also makes me cringe. 5) I have every confidence that Chris will figure out how to bring his athletic talents to bear in such a way as to be effective in his team setting in the last half of his senior year, just like Kevin Braswell. (I'm sure I'll get flames for this one). 6) I'm glad you retracted this one.

Is it just me or are people still complaining about last years team in this thread? Guess what the problems we are having on offense right now (stagnent, poor spacing, lack of continuty and missed shots) are normal for November. The problems on defense are also normal defensive problems for a team to have in the second game of the season. These are things that are improved upon during the season. Yes, right now we aren't that good, but its ok to not be good in November. How many Georgetown teams do you remember that were good in November?

(I'm sure I'll get flames for this one). Chris Wright is morphing into Kevin Braswell, and that's not a good thing. Kevin Braswell could run up the stats as good as anyone, but he could not execute a game plan and he drained the offense out of anyone else in the backcourt. Chris Wright is not showing the leadership to run the offense and has settled for Braswell-like shooting to compensate for sloppy play and an inability to set up Monroe inside. This was another game where Monroe's stats show that he is not being positioned to dominate. In 33 games he has scored more than 18 just twice, and he does not get the ball enough to be much more than a 11 point, 7-8 rebound a game player which ought to disappoint a lot of people. Georgetown has little more than shooting guards and centers right now. Markel Starks may be the next Jon Wallace, but he's a year away. Nate Lubick may be the next Jerome Williams, but he's a year away. Absent a major step up by Clark, there only appears three scorers on the team, none consistent. That's a call to action for each between now and January.

Jesus, maybe it is my own naivete, but this is not what I was expecting. From this board, not from this team. Seriously guys, after what happened last year, are we really drawing conclusions about this team from game #2?? By that account, we were an amazing team last year.
Look, I get it, we didn't play well today. We looked stagnant on offense, shot the ball poorly, fell asleep way too much on defense in the 2nd half. Lots of things that aren't good.
But remember when the mantra of this board was "JTIII's teams always get better as the year goes on." Maybe everyone wants to bury that one after last year, I dunno. But most teams, and especially most young teams, get better as the year goes on. Chris is in his essentially late sophomore year in terms of PT. Henry is obviously going to be up and down because he's getting his first real PT this year. Same with Hollis. Why don't we wait more than a couple of games before we start giving up on this season.
While I'm not going to say I loved everything about this game, there were a few things I did like. First and foremost, think about a game last year where we had the ball with a chance to win where JTIII drew a play for the ball to go to Greg. What happened? We launched a series of 3's and lost it. Today, on the last possession, we get the ball in Greg's hands and he makes the play. Second, we were down 6 points with 4 or so minutes to go (if I recall correctly). Last year, we would lose these leads and never really get over the hump to win the game. Today, we did. That's a big difference. We played a lot of close games the year before last, but the reason we were very good is because we won those close games. A thing that Len Elmore said that I thought was a good point was that when the lead was slipping away early in the 2nd half, he wondered if our guys would be thinking in the back of their head "here we go again." And it's true. They were there last year, and they're used to losing these kind of games. We played a bunch and probably came out only with 2 close wins (Memphis, Nova) and a whole bunch of losses (Syracuse, Cincy [2], SHU, SJU [2], Baylor, probably someone I'm forgetting now). This team has to learn to win because they don't know how to do it yet.
I just frankly don't get this sentiment. Take a deep breath, look up at the W, and realize that it's still November. We'll find out what this team is made of over the next 4 months, not just tonight.

That's a call to action for each between now and January. A post player that can't make a right handed lay-up is rarely ever going to more that an 11 point per game scorer. Right now Greg simply just isn't good enough to dominate games night after night. Maybe he will get there sometime this season, but right now he's not there. I realized before the season started that Chris was going to be the whipping boy this season. Yea, he made some mistakes tonight, but every made just as many, and he showed he learned from them on the last few possessions when it was obvious he was soely looking for Monroe. Its not Chris' fault Monroe didn't do anything with it on that second to last possession. Chris played a good solid game today, made a few mistakes, got a little to aggressive, but overall led the team to a win along with Austin and Greg. Can't ask for much more for the second game.

AND CHRIS needs to be the in control point guard as in the kenner which he can be even tho leading scorer hurt us alot ..and lastly WE WILL MAKE SHOTS julian had a few roll out.. hollis will make those threes i promise a number rolled around and out.. sooooo VERY DIFFERENT FROM LAST YEAR..TOGETHER TRUST AND GRIT DESPITE WELL AND AWFUL GAME IN MANY WAYS BUT A WIN OK A WIN OK and the next four games should be time toget moving and get the kinks out before we get tough with butler.. wash .. and odu GO HOYAS A WIN IS A WIN AND THINGS HAVE CHANGED PLEASE THEY HAVE
