Their discussion of our board is pretty funny. Why do I have the urge to check my credit score, take a Prilosec, and watch my newest Netflix? Honestly, after reading so many other message boards like that and the Scout.com types, I'm finding it harder and harder to take seriously what all of you write when it's delivered in more than one sentence, grammatically correct, and not followed by a giant JPEG 10x the size of the actual post of the scoreboard from the last time we beat our top football rival, a home-made montage of a successful basketball season 2-3 years ago, a porn star/Tila Tequila doing something vaguely naughty, a South Park/Family Guy character wearing our school colors, or sidebarred by the clip of Jean Claude van Damme dancing in the movie "Breakin'" Step up your game! EDIT: Also, effective immediately, I'll be posting all future RECAPs to my profile page on plentyofish.com

I have always understood that portion of our fight song--remember, it is three songs rolled into one--to reference baseball rivalries. If that is the case, then how does a reference to the Crimson lines holding 'em make sense? And although turn of the century baseball cranks may have been more likely to break out in song than their modern-day equivalents (Sweet Caroline excepted), I believe the baseball fight song is a fairly rare species. You've obviously never experienced the completely disorienting experience of the Blue Jays' fight song at Sky Dome or Rogers Centre or whatever they're calling it these days! There's even dance moves to go with the song. Anyway, I recall reading somewhere that "lines" was an early slang term for "line-ups" in baseball. Yeah, I'm probably wrong, but it makes so much more sense.

Hey gang. Baylor fan here. Just wanted to wish you guys luck and welcome y'all to Waco. If you're making the trip or just wanted some info on our squad, feel free to ask me and I'll gladly answer. As cheesy as it sounds, it's pretty cool for us to play a "traditional power" other than KU. Anyways, like I said, look forward to the game and chatting it up with you guys for the next couple days and SIC 'EM BEARS.

You could not pay me to travel to Waco under normal circumstances - this is not the time to make a exception to that rule.
It is impressive to see how the Baylor program has evolved (to the extent Baylor fans are allowed to believe in that) since it was grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons a few years ago.
I hope this game and the additional practice it gives us lets us move into becoming the sum of our parts next year.

Except that most of the schools mentioned in GU's fight song were infrequent football opponents at best- we first listened to Cornell in football until 2003, Yale's Boolah-Boolah was first heard in a football game in 2007, they have played the Proud Old Princeton Tiger all of 5 times between 1903 and 1920, and Crimson Lines of Harvard have never had the opportunity to hold the Hoyas. I have always understood that portion of our fight song--remember, it is three songs rolled into one--to reference baseball rivalries. Baseball has nothing to do with the fight songs. It's all about football. And upon closer inspection, it's not about rivalries but cheers: "Boola-Boola" "The Navy Yell" "C-O-R-N-E-L-L..." Harvard's "Hold That Line" Chu-Chu-Rah-Rah... The Princeton "Tiger" Hence the "yell of all the yells..."

I hereby dub 2008-09: The Year In Which We Question Everything About Georgetown!!
Good Lord people, it's a fight song, not the Gettysburg Address.
Unless we want to contract nodak to pen a new one for the university, here's three easy bits of advice: Learn It, Know It, Love It (and just remember when to yell out "Hoya Hoya Saxa!"
Yeesh.
Also, why must we make fun of the predominant religion at Baylor? Is that necessary? As alums of a Jesuit institution, you think we'd know better.
I mean, for crying out loud, it's not like they're Methodists or anything.
;D

I hardly think killing people and dumping their bodies in the desert constitutes a religion.
And if it did, I'm sure it would be a religion of peace.

Is this our worst pre-game thread ever? I posit that it might be.
Will this season never end?!

Oh, and I'm reading the ESPN article on Baylor that rosslynhoya linked to, and this STILL makes me mad:
""I've gotten past judging people; I judge my own actions and they were wrong," Bliss said. "The thing about his actions, I think that's where a little bit of the misunderstanding occurred -- on his part. I feel badly because I think I let him down. I felt like I didn't do a very good job of mentoring him. "
Bliss, who floated the idea with his staff of insinuating that a player who was shot was a DRUG DEALER, is suggesting that someone who did the RIGHT THING, someone who did what we should ALL ASPIRE TO, had POOR MENTORING ADVICE.
Bliss still doesn't get it. And it makes me furious.
(Not a knock against Baylor - a knock against Bliss).

It is pretty bad. The season was terribly disappointing, and no one is happy about the NIT. I would like to win a few to end the season but frankly I'm already looking ahead to next year. I still firmly believe we have the right coach and the right philosophy, great things should be on the horizon.

This game will be more revealing about the character and heart of this team. Have they already checked out on the season as many fans have?

The NIT gives coach Thompson an opportunity to get his team back. If he fails DePaul will not have to worry about finishing last in the Big East next year.
