Discuss. 6 seed. Away game - in HoyaChris' and DFW's back yard. (Everything in Texas is right next to everything else, right?)
Higher seeded teams host more games (per CM Newton, NIT selection committee chair).
On the ESPNU selection show, Adrian Branch (former Terp) picks Baylor to come out of this bracket because "they are hot."

I spent a New Year's Eve a couple of years ago at a wedding in Waco. God help anybody making the trip. There is nothing down there.

Winner gets to claim Harvey Thomas as a gadfly?

Does the winner get the Harvey Thomas Cup?
Well, in 2003 we played on the road at Tennessee, who was that year's "OMG how did they get snubbed!" team. Some teams turn that into motivation, and some decide to take their ball and go home.
Tennessee fell into the latter category--there was almost nobody in the gym and we won by ten (one of the Ashanti Cook breakout games, as he'd been in a Chris Wright-like state of injury for a long period of the season).
Of course IDK if Tennessee was playing as well as Baylor has been in putting together their little miracle run.
Whatever. There's a date and a time, and another game to watch.

Haven't we only played like 3 B12 teams in our entire history? That's something interesting right?

It always seemed GU's schedule acknowledges the other 49 states except for Texas. Apart from the UTEP tilt, and the UofH game from earlier in the decade, this is like what, the 3rd trip ever in the modern history of the program to the Lone Star State?
Hopefully the team will discover there is no problem Whataburger can't fix.

the difference is that Baylor didn't get snubbed. They knew that not winning the Big-12 equaled the NIT. as a result, they'll still be excited to play.
This is a difficult, difficult matchup

Baylor lost 10 of their last 12 league games before their little run in the B12 tournament. Their defense does not look so good and Pomeroy pegs them as "Mostly Man," which plays right into our strength. They also are not that big and not so good on the boards. I don't think there is any chance Baylor can overmatch us. If we play well, we win. If not, we probably lose.

Already wasted $75 for ESPN Full Court, what's another couple hours of driving. Ah, Waco. It's so conservative at Baylor they don't allow sex standing up. It could lead to dancing. [Rimshot] OK, some of us get it, but the blue state folks may not. For the uninitated, Baylor University did not allow on-campus dances until 1996.--Adminquery.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9903E6D81E39F93AA25757C0A960958260

This is a difficult, difficult matchup More then that, NIT was unlikely for them heading into the tournament and they played themselves into it. They definitely are going to be happy to be there, doubt they'll give up.

First ever matchup between the two schools. Hoya games v. teams currently a member of the B12, per the history website: Kansas (1), Missouri (1), Texas (1), Texas Tech (2).
If this were a weekend game, say, Saturday, I'd go if I could find a reasonable fare. Wednesday, alas...
Log5 odds ignoring home advantage give the Hoyas about a 62% chance of winning. I'll have to find the home court adjustment and apply that, then I'll have full log5 odds up at Hoya Prospectus.

Their team starts 3 seniors, none of whom will be moving on to the next level. They're not gonna give up, not a chance. If you watched the Big 12 tourney at all, that's pretty obvious. They want to keep playing basketball as long as possible.

Appears that they play three guards and shoot a lot of threes. 40% of their fg attempts are threes, a higher percentage than anyone in the Big East.

Areed they are a good team but they havent really beaten anybody, and other than their conference tourney run they have been on a slide similar to ours.. if we come out like we actually want to win the NIT we should win
