I was as worried as anyone over the extension, but now that we are not paying him bargain basement -- and more importantly have shown commitment to the program -- I am much more worried about him moving on to the challenge of the NBA, not the money of another option.

Heard through the grapevine that Coach will make a lot more than what we all suspected. Looks like its closer to $10 mil for the life of the deal...not including tourney bonuses. I think the University found a way to pay him good value.

I hope that is correct. - SHoe deals - TV deals - Basketball camp - Speaking engagements Lots of ways a school can add.. or orchestrate.. additional money for a coach, over and above a salary from the school.

Didn't the school give his pops a nice house to stay in free of charge?
Anyway I always suspected it was more (III's increase) than what Barker reported.

I hope this is right. Between JTIII and the University, I think it is safe to say we will never know the full details of the package. Both JTIII and G'town are secret mofos!

Didn't the school give his pops a nice house to stay in free of charge? You mean the apartment in Rosslyn? I always figured that was his own place (it was REALLY decked out).

The University did buy Big John a house back in the late 70s, I think. I read that in the "Big Man on Campus" book. The least they could do...maybe for III we should buy the man a practice facility??? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I remember something about it having a swimming pool with a mural of Marylin Monroe on the bottom.

Gtown gave JT a home on Colorodo Ave. near Rock Creek Park rent free for a few years and then it evolved into a part of his total package. If he held onto it throughout the nineties, he made quite a nice hunk of change from it. At the time, it was a smart deal for the school--a nice perk that did not cost them a lot.
