Great news. A solid coach is locked uplong-term which only enhances his already fantastic recruiting skills. Everyone he's currently talking to knows he's signed through the end of that recruit's 4 years.
With this accomplished, Hoyas are primed to bring the pain.

Absolutely fantastic news. Couldn't be happier right now and am going to promptly remit payment for my tickets.

Coaches around the country just collectively swore. Knowing three is going to be with the hoyas for the long haul takes away one of the main negative recruiting tactics. Big East coaches are not going to be happy tohear they're going to keep having to prepare for JT III's gtown teams.

It's about time. I would love to hear that he got a signicant pay raise too. But if it's enough for 3 it should be neough for the rest of us. Phew. Glad we cleared that up!

Not sure if anyone has posted this:
The practice facility is set to begin construction when the science center finishes (2011ish), so it would likely be done by 2013. I don't think it is a coincidence that his deal expires when the facility is set to open. If it exists, I bet he re-ups again. If he doesn't, well who knows.
Either way, amazing news.

Yeah I speculated earlier he might sign a contract just long enough to see if the school was going to do what they said they were going to do.

Congratulations to President DeGioia and Coach Thompson for coming to an agreement that appears to be part of a larger plan that will improve Georgetown Athletics as a whole, and for taking the time to do it correctly. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3039486Did anyone call and tell voltahoya to come in off the ledge yet?

GREAT NEWS and proud of University for not only getting it done--but timing it before season begins--so it wouldn't be a distraction.
III through '13 sounds great to me!

Good news. Can't hurt recruiting too, since the prospects won't have to worry about JTIII leaving early. ;D ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

This is awesome!
In response to some of the "told you so's," I still think it's an enormous fallacy to say "The University did it right this time, so it must never be appropriate for fans or students to be active in expressing their interests."
But in this case, the University did really do it right. I'm thrilled. It'll definitely set a great mood for Homecoming, and hopefully it's something that's rallying campus around Georgetown at a time when everyone needs it.

In response to some of the "told you so's," I still think it's an enormous fallacy to say "The University did it right this time, so it must never be appropriate for fans or students to be active in expressing their interests." I don't think anyone would support the second half of your statement - I certainly would not. Personally, my only point was that it was also a fallacy to assume that public silence from the parties involved equaled disagreement or lack of progress.

Just talked to Degioia about the negotiations. Turns out Coach Thompson is being paid III dollars....
Is it homecoming yet?
