I believe that I too will be cutting a check to the Hoop Club this afternoon.

So, uh, does that mean we can cancel the protest rally and the mass self-immolation in Red Square?
III's demeanor at DeGioia's address to the faculty the other day didn't seem out of the ordinary, but the fact that he came at all rather surprised me. Can't hurt to look engaged when you just got an extension, I suppose.

We'll never know how much he's getting paid right?

We'll never know how much he's getting paid right? The athletic department won't tell us. We'll probably have to wait for Chronicle of Higher Education. It likely will be on some filing the school makes, I forget which one.

Great news! My only complaint is that "Georgetown" is misspelled in the email!! We desperately need someone to take responsibility for quality control in broadcast emails. These mistakes are embarrassing. At the bottom of the email it states: "...For all the latest on Georgetwon Basketball, visit www.GUHoyas.com"

Fantastic! I'm going to assume this is a real extension with a legit pay raise -- something that will keep Thompson here -- since there is no reason not to believe that.
Huge kudos to Muir, DeGioia and everyone else involved.

Well, since Georgetown is a private institution, they have no obligation to disclose JTIII's salary. Public schools have to share that kind of info. That said, we found out what he was making before, so I'm sure it'll come out eventually.

miller,
Saw that too. Eesh.
Anyway, on the "Giving" website, I didn't see anything for the Science Center. Are we not able to give to that yet?

I'd like to point out that I made my donation for seats yesterday... deal announced today. I guess they were $50 short until the account updated this morning....

That said, we found out what he was making before, so I'm sure it'll come out eventually. Georgetown has to disclose his base salary, but not any other ways he might get paid, whereas a public school has to disclose it all.

State schools are required to make all salaries public, as coaches are state employees. Private universities are under no such obligation.
Non-profit organizations (including schools), are required by law to disclose certain financial figures, through some IRS paperwork, including the salaries paid to their five highest-paid employees. There is about a two-year lag on this information, given the fiscal and tax year calendars, so whatever coach makes over the next year (in salary and compensation from the university, not counting any endorsement income) will be made public sometime around 2010.
Given that JTIII has never discussed his salary/compensation, and has shut down any and all attempts by reporters to ask about it, it seems like keeping the figures private is a joint decision between Coach Thompson and Georgetown.

Yeah - while Georgetown's private, it's still technically a non-profit organization. As such, they have to disclose the top 5 (?) highest paid employees to the IRS on the I-990, which you can find at www.guidestar.org.

This is awesome news. Optimistically i fully expected it to happen, but nice to see it in print.
quick question since i am at work and my season ticket/donation info at home and want to make sure I get it in. Can I take take of both of those payments over the phone or do I have to mail something? Does it only have to be postmarked by 10/1??

It's about time. I would love to hear that he got a signicant pay raise too. But if it's enough for 3 it should be neough for the rest of us.
