People hate Duke because the media and bandwagon fans love them. It's not hard. No one likes the teacher's pet. exactly. One can forget that that pitiful piece of crap school in upstate NY exists for long periods of time. It's a joy to forget that such an abomination can exist in our society. Duke, on the other hand, one cannot escape hearing about over and over and over and over again. Add to that an "unexpected" NCAA championship, and it will be absolutely miserable. Oh, please, this isnt 1992. There are basically two people in the media that pine over Duke - Mike Patrick and Dick Vitale. I cant even remember the last time I saw a kid wear a Duke shirt outside of Verizon when we played them. If this is really the reason people hate Duke, that is pretty damn lame. When I went to the Syracuse and West Virginia games in the past 2-3 years, their fans taunted us, they take over our arena, they rub in our faces that they kick our butts, they start cheers. I aint gonna forget that Syracuse exists, sorry. Duke is a blip on the screen comparatively.

It's also magnified in this year where they're not a legitimately good team getting the breaks, but an arguably soft team that played a soft schedule getting the breaks. I'm no fan of WVU, but if they won, at least I'd think they deserved it. The conversation starts and ends with - We lost to Ohio University.

I'm certainly not saying we deserved it either this year.

Fair enough. But, Duke would certainly be deserving if they won it. Like Filo, I feel dirty defending Duke, but Id much rather they win than WVU. Just a personal opinion. I will leave it at that.

I'm rooting for Huggy. He may be despicable, but I like his team a lot. Da'Sean Butler may be my favorite player outside of the Hoyas.
Good for the conference. Eff Duke.

I agree that if Duke is a case of the flu, then Syracuse is akin to a case of aids. That being said, Duke is a universal evil. We (here) all hate Syracuse, and that's understandable. I have a deep-seated loathing of FSU, that I understand others don't. But Duke is different. EVERYONE hates Duke, except their fans, of course. The list of reasons is overwhelming: 1. Yes, their success is part of it. Let's face it: no one really "hates" Kentucky in football, but their basketball team and fans draw quite a lot of ire. 2. They are "forced" down our throats, seemingly with almost every game televised Nationally. 3. They are often good, but even when they aren't up to par, they mysteriously are overrated, by both the media and pollsters alike, not to mention the NCAA selection and seeding committee. 4. They are elitists who think their sh!t doesn't stink. Similarly, they tend to look down on others. There's an artificial prestige associated with Dook. 5. They get way more than their fair share of calls. Yes, I know it's basketball, and I know everyone likes to complain about the refs, but Dook REALLY DOES get more than the benefit of the doubt. 6. Along the lines of #5, they get away with a lot. Their style of play, at least since Coach K. borders on lots of fouls, many/most of which aren't called. That pesky slapping at the ball is reaching in when other teams do it ... but not Dook. This is just a partial list incidentally. But I think I have made my point.

Seeing how I'm one of the only people on this board who actually likes Huggins. WV is my first choice. Followed by Butler and then Michigan St Is it the DUI, the insanely low graduation rate or the high arrest rate that endears you to Huggins? LOL...The DUI. No seriously, I wouldn't be up in arms if he coached Georgetown, but he's perfect for WV.

I like the WVU players, but I hope we can somehow exclude Huggins from winning it if they do win. Maybe he's bed-ridden from the flu and his assistants come up with brilliant and new gameplans and they win?

Meh, I dont buy all of that about Duke. To each their own. It's fine if people would root for WVU over Duke, but I personally think it is a little much to say that Duke wouldnt be deserving, or isnt a top 5 team, etc., or is only in the FF because of their draw. But, I definitely understand irrational hatred. That's what sports is all about.

Gee, they really expected people to logon to get tickets and not have that information mysteriously make it's way around??? I think they were being somewhat naive to begin with.

Here's a good tweet: The refs for the title game, according to a source: John Cahill (my boy), Teddy Valentine and Tom Eades.
Source: The refs for Sat. night: Curtis Shaw, John Higgins, Les Jones, Mike Suart, Jamie Luckey and Randy McCall. Alternate is Pat Adams.

As an aside, in the NIT Final Four, it seems that the refs again were instrumental in getting a BIG name into the big game. An obvious foul was obviously missed with 6 seconds left which would have put RI at the line shooting 2. I Guess ESPN, like CBS, wanted UNC from the ACC instead of RI from the A-10. Too bad these refs just see what they are TOLD to see.

And the hits keep coming. My money is now squarely on DOOK. Tough to play 5-8 two nights in a row. CBS gets want they want and the NCAA eats crow for putting DOOK in the easiest bracket to advance. There should be an investigation, but there won't. I wonder who Cahill will call the Phantom T on in this game?

Makes sense, they all worked last weekend so they're on the list of possible officials. This would be three straight FF's for Cahill and at least four straight for Shaw. With the exception of I think Luckie and Higgins, everyone else has worked a FF in the past 2-3 years, most of them multiple times. Gotta get some new blood man. Also, pretty sure the NIT officiating is coordinated by Art Hyland who coordinates the Big East, which is why last night (and prob tomorrow night) there were all Big East crews.
