"Meh"? Do we need to use this word on every other post? Meh, quit gettin' your panties in a bunch.

On SU, they are good when they're not expected to be so. They were left for dead before this season. Fact is that Boeheim develops his players, so you always have a boogeyman here or there who really steps up. Scoop Jardine was that way this season, and I think he'll find another, like a Mookie Jones, on his current roster.

Meh, I hear what you guys are saying about officiating, and granted there were some bad calls in Davidson and first half UNC, but I did not think that it decided either game. Whether you think it constituted "taking over the game" is your opinion. I doubt that's any ref's motivation. I'd hate to be one of the fanbases that criticizes the officiating after every game. Hell, we didn't even play last night. Again, missed and/or controversial calls happen. Unless it's egregiously bad or in a critical moment that decides the game, rarely does it detract from my enjoyment of watching the game, and rarely does it really affect the result. It's the human element of the game. I will note that early to mid-season it seemed referees were calling games fairly tight (remember those 'Nova marathon games?), but to me the whistles were fewer and farther in between later in the season. I doubt it would happen, but as someone posted somewhere before, I actually wouldn't mind seeing the NCAA move to six fouls to foul out for entertainment value. It sucks when a star is basically benched because of early foul trouble. I think moving from five to six would still be pretty fair. But again, I doubt this would happen. You know what would fix this? If officials realized that they didn't have to call either a block or a charge EVERY TIME a guy runs into someone else and the "defender" falls down. Problem is, they see the flop, blow their whistle, and have to stick it to someone. These calls happen WAY too often, have basically become a coin flip for the officials, and end up having too much of an impact on the game. Brian Zoubek is 7'1", 270 lbs, and falls on his ass in the presence of a stiff breeze - the officials automatically blow their whistles, and someone has to get a foul (usually, the offensive player).

In Zoubek's defense (no pun intended), falling down is the only way to play defense in the paint in the college game these days. If you hold your ground and the offensive player runs into you, the defender is called for the foul. Flopping IS defense now. It's all that gets rewarded.

I thought Hubert Davis made a good point last night re: parity is to some extent a product of guys leaving early for the NBA -- mid majors don't have to worry about that as much. Still, I'm not sure I agree with Digger that Butler's rise will steer coaches away from one and done guys.

I could be wrong about this, but I don't think Duke lost anyone early who would otherwise have been a part of this year's team. So it's not just the mid-majors. As for Digger's comment, I'm sure he doesn't have Calishadi's ear.
