So Wade gets caught on tape... school says clean it up (or at least get cleaner)... school hires Nickelberry... and he's the baddie? Meanwhile the guy who was at LSU during the uncovered incidents was an assistant at GU for the last 5 years and... barely a peep? Kirby was on the previous staff at LSU (Johnny Jones), not the Wade staff. The violations happened after Kirby left LSU. Wade got caught on tape AND it was reported in 2019, Nickelberry was working there then, the school keeps Wade as the head coach for 3 years anyway because the violations don't really ethically matter to LSU - they only care about the ability to fire Wade and not owe him money. He finally gets charged with violations and they can fire him for cause in 2022. If you thought LSU was dirty - and people on this board have been throwing around $$$ accusations on any 18 year old kid even putting LSU on their recruitment list for years - I don't understand how you see this move as anything but us playing in the same sandbox. If you're for this, fine. Own it - don't pretend like we stand for whatever the Thompson legacy was supposed to be about. This isn't about the deflated basketball or putting caps and gowns on kids or helping anyone - this is about getting someone who can hand us our Khalid El-Amin. Pretty clear that you’re among the group that is never going to be happy regarding this situation. The whole attitude of “we run a clean program” is/was a canard anyway. Even in our glory years we brought in very questionable players (Graham, Turner, Page, et al) and leaned on JT Jr’s cultural status to couch it as giving underprivileged kids a chance. Yes, Georgetown likely required more of them once on campus than a lot of other programs, but we also discarded many of them when no longer useful or too much of a burden (again, Graham and Turner, who paid for Alonzo’s transgressions as well as his own). Point is, anyone who clings to the notion that Georgetown is/was a pristine program is willfully blind to reality. Let’s get on with building a program that can compete in the modern atmosphere of college basketball.

I know DeGioia is a smart guy, as is Lee Reed. What they are trying to shove down our throats is preposterous. It's not going to work. If you're going to fire your assistants and make them scapegoats, then you need to bring in really good new guys as upgrades. The much better move is to swallow hard, recognize you made a terrible mistake, and correct that mistake as soon as possible. Band-aids like bad A-10 assistant coaches looking for a lifeline will not make us a competitive Big East team, particularly with proven loser Patrick Ewing as head coach. I just do not think the people who actually have power here (DeGioia and the Board) have really considered the current situation. From their perspective, I am sure they recognize that 0-20 is really bad (or they don't care, but I do think they care enough to come to that conclusion). But, they feel allegiance to Ewing as a former player/Thompson connection, they made a boneheaded decision to give him a fat extension he did not deserve, and they do not want to embarrass themselves by making a wider community at Georgetown aware of these facts (my guess is most students and even faculty at Georgetown do not really know or focus on how much Ewing makes other than "a lot more than us"). DeGioia doesn't like change. He was essentially forced into it in 2004 because of Esherick's performance combined with his tone-deaf comments. He was also forced to fire JT3, as his public statement about it made it clear to me he didn't really want to fire him. So, in that context, it's easy to see why DeGioia wouldn't move on from Ewing. However, I am not sure thought has been given to the consequences of the decision to retain Ewing: Ewing is essentially a lame duck and occupies a hot seat. Now, will Georgetown fire him next year if he goes 3-17 or even 5-15? It's by no means certain, BUT the outside rational world sees Ewing's performance and failure. Any reasonable look at Ewing would tell someone that he is, at the very least, not solid in his position beyond this season. The real issue is that the lame duck status significantly impacts everything surrounding the program, making it all more difficult. The best assistant coaches may not want to join a program where they might be out of a job in a year. Recruits, even those who really like Ewing, may not want to take a gamble on coming to Georgetown if they think Ewing is not going to be around. Other recruits may look at Georgetown, see 0-20, and say "Hell no." Parents looking at Georgetown may steer their kids elsewhere, especially if they want to get to the NCAA tournament and attention. The same will be manifest on the transfer market. Most portal entrants will enter within the next few weeks. Not only do we not have a staff in place, but will really good transfers want to join a program that is 0-20? Ewing has gotten some very solid/good transfers in Donald Carey, Terrell Allen, and Yurtseven, for example, but are guys of that caliber going to want to come to Georgetown seeing that the program just bottomed out? And then there's the question of our current guys. I am sure some of them had strong relationships with Waheed/Kirby, and so what happens there? Do they wait and see who the new assistants are? Do they begin having doubts? I don't know. But, the point is this is all a cycle that feeds on itself. The problem is that Ewing probably IS in a very solid position. If he doesn't get fired after losing 21 straight games and going winless in the conference, it seems clear to me that he's never going to be fired.

Now is not the time to panic. If we don't have new assistants by the end of next week there will some explaining to do. I doubt there was much of a plan in place other than making it look like they were doing something by firing Kirby and Waheed to calm down the fan base. That hasn't worked. Seriously, though - what fan base? There are not enough remaining fans to constitute any sort of "base." Pathetic

You're trolling by implying that anything about the NCAA tournament games played so far might make anyone view this year's incredibly bad Georgetown team any differently. Sorry. I apologize. I watched TCU dismantle SH and felt that our parts aren't as bad as they seemed. I watched SDSt dominating Creighton in the 1st half and Creighton needing a collapse to win and felt a little better about our team. Why does me not agreeing with you work you up? These are my feelings. You can keep going with your "we are doomed as long as we have Ewing" feelings. It doesn't bother me. Really? Because you seem rather bothered. And look, I supported Ewing as long as it was possible so don’t paint with such a wide brush. He has had five full years and the program is in the worst shape in its history. If there was any benefit of doubt left to give him, I’d be first in line to hand it out. There isn’t. The program was already in decline when he arrived and he has only worsened the disaster. If you care about the program at large, and not just specific people who have been a part of it, then the only rational thing to do is hope for change at the top.

Absolutely not, but excellent trolling. We were an awful team before “Covid” (which every other team in the country also had to deal with) and we were an awful team after that break. The sky isn’t falling. It has fallen. There is zero hope for a successful turnaround with the current program leadership. Zilch. So I'm trolling now? What do you think I mean when I bring up Covid? I do realize that every team had to deal with it but you do realize that it effects each team differently? I'm also a Commanders fans. We literally lost 20 players to Covid right before our biggest game of the year. We had a QB off the streets QBing the most important game of the year while being down 20 players. So yes every NFL team had to deal with Covid but I would say WFT was hit more harshly than most of the NFL. With the Hoyas there are a few players that you couldn't lose and DH and DC are on the short list. And I'm not going to get into the bonus year that every team in the conference but us took advantage of....yeah but I'm trolling...I apologize. You're trolling by implying that anything about the NCAA tournament games played so far might make anyone view this year's incredibly bad Georgetown team any differently.

The fact that the conference's supposed "flag bearer", and wealthiest member has the worst coach by far, yet pays him as if he's the best is almost unfathomable by any objective measure. One one hand if you said well we can't pay as well as Nova or Xavier or Seton Hall, I'd say ok we are making the best with what we got. Or if you told me that yea our coach maybe isn't at the level of a Hall of Famer like Wright, it'd be understandable. But the fact we are at both end of the extremes is tough to really comprehend and is a real black eye on the entire administration. Makes you question anything they do, athletics and beyond... The days of us being considered any sort of flag bearer for this conference are long gone. We are now the hangers-on getting scraps from the successful programs.

Really depressing to read about these hires and ponder the current state of the program.

So after watching the first round of tourney games does the board feel any better about our team. The loses to SD ST and TCU don't quite look as bad. That was when the team was at full strength before Covid and conference loses started piling up. I know 0-20 looks really bad but when the streak starts growing you can put more pressure on yourself to "make plays" rather than just letting the game flow naturally. The sky may not be falling as some are suggesting. We had a very inexperienced team that couldn't get out of the rut they found themselves in. Going through this experience may be good for future tough games....3....2....1 Absolutely not, but excellent trolling. We were an awful team before “Covid” (which every other team in the country also had to deal with) and we were an awful team after that break. The sky isn’t falling. It has fallen. I will not comment on anyone individually, but it bears noting that last year's transfers were announced on March 25, 2021 (Wahab), Berger entered the portal on April 21, 2021, and Sibley on May 17, 2021. Obviously, you hope our guys stick with the program, contrary to previous years, but it's way too early to take a victory lap on keeping people at Georgetown. Good god man, do you just hover on here ready to poop in the punch bowl whenever anything remotely positive is implied about the program? Has to be a better use of your time than repeatedly stating the obvious on here ad nauseum. Not that it's necessary or helpful to counter your relentless nattering negativity, but Wahab transferred 5 days after the end of the season last year. If you're insisting we compare timelines, Beard has passed that mark. But by all means jump in and make sure no other Hoya fans do anything close to a "victory lap." Jeez Louise.

Respectfully, Boston, a few big differences here. First is age. Aminu Mohammed is already 20 years old (born 12/15/01). Contrast that to Jaden Ivey, who just turned 20 (born 2/13/02) and Johnny Davis, who also just turned 20 (born 2/27/02). Age and physical development matters to NBA scouts, a lot. Mohammed is older and more physically developed, at the end of his freshman year, than Ivey and Davis were last year. Mo is not going to get taller or more athletic in the next year - he's a finished product physically. Secondly, Davis and Murray were not NBA prospects at this time last year. Murray averaged 7.2 ppg and 5.1 rpg in 18.0 mpg last year. He had a tremendous season this year, obviously improved, but clearly would have gone undrafted had he come out last year. Same story with Davis, who averaged 7.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg in 24.3 mpg as a freshman. Those guys were not on NBA radars as high schoolers or freshmen in college. Mohammed was last year as a McD's AA and still is this year, despite not improving under Patrick Ewing's horrible coaching. Finally, Mo is clearly being handled by his "guardian", Shawn Harmon. Harmon's tweets speak for themselves. It's been clear for years that Harmon's goal is to get Mohammed to the NBA as quickly as possible. I don't pretend to know the specific financial and personal situations of Ivey, Davis and Murray. However, we do know that Ivey's mom is the head women's basketball coach at Notre Dame and he clearly comes from a well-educated, stable background. I think there are likely pretty strong personal "situation" differences between Mohammed and the three you mention. Aminu is not coming back to Georgetown. He and Harmon are not dumb enough to have him play another second for Patrick Ewing. The only question is whether he plays professionally next season (whether that be NBA, G-League or something else) or transfers to another university. I'd be shocked if he played another season of college basketball, but it'd be one helluva slap in the face to Patrick Ewing and Ronny Thompson. I want to remind yall that according to Boya PE is supposed to be unemployed since Sunday. So...... LOL - I'd say hoyaboya is among the top suspects as being "anonymous" as well. He's not wrong about the program, but he's a terrible prognosticator.

I think both of these 16 seeds that are playing right now would crush us. Depressing.

What makes us think there will be any announcement if/when any hires are made? This program has zero interest in providing fans and media any information in a timely fashion. Maybe we find out who the new coaches are at next season's opening game.

I don't believe a single thing about "anonymous". The notion that someone with such strong feelings, and the ability to convey them so clearly via the written word, a supposed former player no less, would choose anonymity over openness is absurd. Why hamstring the impact of your protest in favor of lobbing incendiary accusations and judgments? All of this corruption stuff is just asinine to me. Having just won the BET, and with a great class coming in, extending Ewing was certainly reasonable. Maybe some wouldn't have agreed, but people have gone waay overboard with their characterizations of the administration. I don't believe these were written by a former player either, though I agree with most of what was written.

So if the administration decides to go forward with Ewing can we agree to stop the complaints until the next season starts? It's going to be a long off-season if the board is 99% complaining about what's not changing and what hasn't happened yet. Sports fandom is a optimistic lifestyle. If you lost all optimism you may need to find enjoyment elsewhere. 🤔 Honestly, there are only about a dozen or two posters who check in regularly. And the ones left are the most passionate. So the answer is no.

Ugh. You may want to move onto the acceptance phase. It's Georgetown - this isn't our first rodeo at this and the only thing I've learned from 2004 and 2017 is that no one knows what the hell is going on behind the scenes. Mostly politics. At this point, things seem a whole lot clearer than they did in 2017. Can’t recall details of 2004, but I remember the statement of support and Esh’s dumb statement afterward. Don’t see that happening here. But I suppose there’s always hope - firing assistants should be a clue that the head coach is staying, but I get the impulse to wish that this nightmare was almost over.

Four of our old Big East brethren are playing a doubleheader tonight in the Mecca. Meanwhile we just wrapped up the single worst season in conference history. We were supposed to be the standard bearer for this conference - ten years in, we are instead its laughingstock. I doubt anyone saw things ever getting this bad. And there’s no clear map back. There's a crystal clear path back, unfortunately it also looks crystal clear the administration has no desire to take that path I disagree. There may be a crystal clear first step that should be taken, but even after that the path to renewed and sustained success is anything but clear.
