Do you want GTown to be good or do you want GTown to be bad? Your reaction to GTown getting a good player is very odd. Almost like you don't want good players to come to GTown…..Would you rather have another 6-25 season to ensure that Ewing isn't coaching after next year? I would like them to be good but in a sustainable way. What this failure of a coach is doing in reboot #4 is not that. He will fail because that’s what he does and he’ll be off trying to find seven new players in year one, part five. It’s ridiculous. Look, the act played well during the season. Now that it's clear no head coaching change is being made, it's tired, dated and just terribly annoying for anyone trying to find news and discussion about the team. There is no one on the board unfamiliar with your stance on Patrick Ewing. Your constant need to remind us all that you know just how bad a coach we have reveals a character flaw in yourself that you really should work on. It would be a better use of your time than posting the same thing 10x a day here.

No real way to spin this positively. We offered more $ at a higher profile program with significantly more resources in his backyard. Agree that Brooks should be next target. How do we know how much we offered him?

Georgetown fans we need new players Georgetown fans he’s too good we must have cheated Except that most of us didn't say "we need new players", we said we need a new Head Coach. Well, you're not getting one, which admittedly stinks. Question now is: are you going to support the team? It seems like many of your fellow misanthropes are choosing not to, but can't stay away from the board.

He's also not the "idiot" in this case. Sorry, that Ewing is horrible is established fact and anyone who would tie his future to him is an idiot. This is the way it is. You become more pathetic with each post - I don’t think many people disagree with your stance toward the head coach, but my god. Get a life.

Given that the public isn't even allowed on that floor of the building, it's largely left to anecdotal accounts, but from past discussions the jerseys not on that wall include the following: 1. Nine NBA jerseys of Georgetown players who played prior to 1972. 2. One ABA jersey prior to 1972 (OK, it's a very obscure reference.) 3. Transfers (Jones, Tucker, Turner, Macklin, Benimon, Whittington, McClung) 4. Limited contracts (Wright, Derrickson, Pickett) Adding McClung and Pickett this year, there should be 49, and it's nowhere close to that. www.hoyabasketball.com/history/nba.htmDerrickson is apparently up there now, though with his name misspelled, because of course it is... misspelled is a generous way to put it. It's the wrong name lol

There is very little chance of Mohammed returning Youve said this over and over for a while now. Anything to base this off of? Obviously we all saw HilltopHoops say the opposite just a week ago. No. Just another poster determined to poop in any punch bowl. Aminu may well be gone, but this dude has no idea.

Assuming this gets finalized - which seems likely - hopefully Crouch flips with Orr and gets the third full time spot. Nickelberry. Pegues. Crouch. All of a sudden makes for a very intriguing DMV 3 headed monster. Not bad. Maybe Ewing could get the flu each game so one of these guys could coach the the team!

I don't think your point is right that it's a talent problem - the most success we've had has been with moderately talented graduate students like Allen and Carey that other people have developed, or with our own seniors. I think experience matters moreso than talent - and experience somewhere else because our program is so horrible at developing and retaining freshmen. I also think we're going to get burned pushing out too many kids and not being able to pull in upgrades for everyone. ? Carey was a significantly better player last year than when he arrived here. I think Collin, Blair, Pickett, and Q all improved significantly in their time here tbh but that’s another subject. Just so we’re clear my point is at this moment the most important thing for the program to do is upgrade the talent level. Is that what you’re disagreeing with because based on your post above I’m not sure. Attempting to get clarity from TC is like trying to count the grains of sand on a beach. It might be theoretically possible, but it’s going to take a while. Edited.--Admin

I also wouldn't mind adding 2 other teams (1 more to each of East/West) to make it 14 in total and 7 in each. Play round robin then a few games against the other division. Most of this is coming from Gonzaga insiders anyways so they're probably just using it as a negotiation tactic for something else. Saw a tweet where someone called it the BIG division and the EAST division. I like that.

All I'm saying is the sentiment on Ewing wasn't what it is now until this past season.I don't remember reading post from probably over 90% of the posters stating Ewing is the worst coach in college bball....so yes I believe the mob is exaggerating his lack of coaching ability. Turns out some of us were right all along. You’re at 9 posts today. Make your last one a good one!

Came for news on the Hoyas and found that much of Hoyatalk has turned into a huge echo chamber with many posters simply trying to prove that they hate Ewing more than the next guy. There's no news, Patrick Ewing skipped out on the Final Four because he was sick, and there's not really a competition because I think we all recognize 9797's leadership and foresight in this area. You make for a very capable Waylon Smithers. Don’t sell yourself short.

Imagine spending your time in office actually trying to help people other than your rich donors... As anti-Trump as it gets, but the Obama years look more and more like a complete waste of time the further they get in the rear view mirror. As for this quote, the country would probably be in a much, much better place had Obama not recovered to win that second term. Anyway, bygones.

With all due respect to everybody here, I think there is some pie in the sky stuff happening. People are reading way too much into this. Based on everything we know, Ewing does take a direct and meaningful role in coaching the program, and has from Day 1. We know he's out on the recruiting trail at times, and there is no reason to think he doesn't play an important role in setting forth our offensive and defensive schemes (whatever they are). I am not sure why anybody thinks hiring two guys--who are known for recruiting primarily--is going to somehow drastically change the program. Are either of them going to have the gravitas and ability to push Ewing aside so they can implement their own systems or changes on the team? I don't think so. It's clear, based on these moves, that the powers that be see recruiting as key to changing the trajectory of the program. Why does anybody think Ewing is going to willfully step aside, or be pushed aside, so that assistants like Nickelberry or Pegues can take over? This is silly. It's not going to happen. If Ewing had expressed a desire to bring in a new approach/ideas, I might be willing to hear it out, but we have absolutely no indication of that. Ewing's comments themselves always seem to blame the players, so if he really thinks that's the major problem, then his moves make a lot of sense. If we bring in better talent, we absolutely should get better than 0-20, but if we still coach a stagnant offense and a putrid defense, then there is essentially little to no hope of actual success. While not spectacular, our talent level under Ewing has never been awful, either (though this past season's roster was pretty weak). The real problem is that Ewing has been unable to coach an effective defensive system. It doesn't matter if we have top 100 recruits if they cannot be taught how to play. The real difference maker would be a coach who can be a teacher on defense. While those guys exist, there is no indication Ewing is seeking one, or willing to cede that part of coaching to someone else, as some other coaches do. I agree somewhat in that anyone suggesting this is being done to set up take outs for Ewing is probably missing the point here. Ewing has made it clear he thinks it's a talent issue, and he's trying to find guys with connections to DMV to get those players. Which is...what everyone on this board has said we lacked with a local recruiting presence. I'm as pessimistic as anyone about the program at this point, I thought he should've been fired, nobody should be above 0-19. But honestly...isn't Pegues / Nickelberry like literally one of the best possible outcomes of the assistant coach search (assuming Pegues happens). When the firings were announced this board was flooded with "well who the hell would even take this job" comments (I'd have to check I might have said it also, I was certainly thinking it). The list of top assistant options all included Pegues. Jokes were flying about the criteria needed to have a Thompson connection. Then Gtown / Ewing goes out and gets two of the most connected DC assistants available, with real power conference experience, and now we're just burying it under 3 pages of "doesn't matter, Ewing is still in charge". If he had hired younger guys, it would be "man he couldn't get anyone with experience". Yes of course, I have my doubts any of this can really be fixed. And the Nickelberry 3 person package always sounded a little too good to be true, would be happy if he could get one of Reed / Murray. But man, there is some pretty classic goalpost moving in this thread. There’s a faction of the board that will never allow itself to express any positivity about anything involving the program as long as Ewing is in charge. And they appear to have a lot of time to post here, as it’s basically a half dozen posters who dominate the discussion and push every negative angle. I get their frustration - Ewing has proven to be a very bad coach and he should definitely have been fired. But he wasn’t. So we are where we are, and the assistant coach hirings definitely address many of the pressing concerns voiced on this board. Of course, there are still problems. The team went 0-20 and appears to be about to lose even more players. It’s a shambles. But the assistant coaches do offer a glimmer of hope, right?

So yall have never had supervision that you had to make him/her feel like a idea was theirs to get them to use it? The Xs and Os only need tweaks not a full overhaul. You only have to make small suggestions and Ewing will get on board. You can't go in throwing insults... 1) the entire thing needs a complete overhaul. It’s ludicrous that you think a tweak will do anything. Take a look at the stats (defense especially) and tell me how a tweak here and there could do anything. 2) what makes you think Ewing is willing to listen to any suggestions? Your relentlessness is perversely impressive. How do you possibly have this much free time to man the Anti-Ewing Wall? LOL

If true, this makes our sunshiney pal hoyaboya the biggest shoveler of horse manure that this board has ever seen. He had Ewing fired on March 13 and Mohommed gone for sure. And that includes the guy who claimed Roscoe Smith was a lock to commit years ago. Hahahahahaha.

I really hope he's graduated already, otherwise he's getting some terrible advice. Why transfer a year away from a Gtown degree? He’s getting kicked out of school a year before his degree. Seems like all the discussion about this transfer is predicated on this “he’s getting kicked out” scenario, which no one actually knows is true. Not saying that it’s not true, but we really don’t know. Just seems like another excuse for the usual suspects to poop on the program. And I kind of get it, the program is terrible at the moment. But these folks are weirdly vigilantic about taking the most negative possible angle on every development. Honestly makes the board unreadable.

"Clean". No one in college basketball can safely be described with that word. With that being said, there is no indication that Nickelberry is any less "clean" than Broadus, who I don't recall too many on this board clutching their pearls over back when he was here. hoyatalk2.proboards.com/thread/24296/kevin-broadus-discussionA lot of people had an issue with that, including people in this thread who are apparently okay with Nickelberry. Only thing that has changed is our standards. Before, a lot of people were against bringing Broadus back because we were a good program and violations would be a threat to the continuation of that. Now, we're a pathetic program with nothing to lose and we can't get out of the contract and people see cheating as the only fix. You really are intent on convicting Nickelberry with no actual evidence, just your assumptions and conjecture. Without evidence, there’s really not a comparison to Kevin Broadus, who as head coach lost control of his program and directly oversaw numerous issues of bad conduct at the very least. As for NIL, I think it’s more of a game-changer than you do. Hard to take much away from this year as it was the first go-round for everyone. Larger point is that the recruiting game is changing. If you want to cling to the old “clean program” thing that was never really true to begin with (under JT Jr or his son), enjoy the fresh air up there on your moral high ground and keep ignoring the fact that it’s shifting under your feet. Many would rather have a program prepared to compete in the current college landscape. If you just enjoy pointing out what you think is hypocrisy, I guess that’s fun for you as well. But no one is happy with the current state of the program, and when you complain and mock everything about the current state and every attempted change, it’s hard to take anything you say seriously.

As I understand it, Memphis' violations stem from Penny giving James Wiseman some money while Penny was coaching him in high school, and then Wiseman later committing to play for Penny when he was hired at Memphis. The other violations have to do with obstructing the NCAA's investigation of the matter. Feel fairly certain this scenario does not apply to Nickelberry. Relatedly, Will Wade's "strong-ass offer" was in 2017. Nickelberry was not hired by LSU until 2019. Lot of people choosing the "Kevin Nickelberry is clean" hill to die on, which is a hill absolutely no member of this board would have climbed in regards to any LSU assistant before we hired him. We're also talking about hiring Kenny Johnson, who plead the fifth 47 times in the suit against Adidas in regards to whatever he was up to with Bowen's dad (https://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/louisville/2021/05/05/brian-bowen-documents-could-make-university-louisvilles-ncaa-case-difficult/4952305001/). We're really building a great culture - these are totally not just desperation moves to keep the 0-20 group employed. You do get that the NIL avenue changes pretty much everything about college recruiting now, don't you? You and a few other posters seem to be writing from an 80s/90s time capsule. I mean, one of you even brought up Khalid El-Amin, for goodness sake. And with the recent actions by the National College Players Association, the "workaround" of the NIL may not even be necessary in the near future. Not to mention that your objections are supported by zero evidence implicating Nickelberry as some sort of proven cheater when it comes to recruiting. It's frankly bizarre, and even though I agree that Ewing should have been fired after this season, it's time to accept that he wasn't. These absurdly dated pearl-clutching posts about culture-building are really just tantrums by you and others that Ewing is still the coach. Let's build a program that can compete under current college sports rules, not some antiquated definition of what a "clean" program in 1985 (or even 2019) would do.

Would you have been ok if GU hired Rick Pitino? This is where you clearly don’t get it. The problem with Pitino goes so far past allegedly paying players.
