Confirmed with a close source that he and GTown are currently in negotiations for him to join the staff. Huge get for local recruiting! I hope they can agree on terms.

I asked the source if Mike considered joining the Hoyas staff and he replied they're already negotiating. If anyone knows, he would know.

If these are the two assistants we get it’s probably as good an outcome as we could have hoped.
That being said I assume these guys come with some contracts that extend more than a year, so you have to think we are committing to a Ewing regime for at least two more years?

If Pegues comes aboard, it would be great news when Degoia comes to his senses: we will have two experienced "interim" Head Coaches to choose from

If this is a prank I’ll never forgive you! Pegues is the second best realistic assistant coach hire we could have outside of Mike Jones. True dematha legend and he has a ton of experience, will instantly make us a factor for top DMV kids. Pegues and Nickelberry together could do some serious damage.

If we can convince Nickelberry and Pegues to join this sinking ship, what does it say about the staff that we could have built in 2017, if only we had tried?

Seriously, I think Ewing could have gotten just about anyone. First year coach with a long contract, and if Georgetown was willing to pony up.

Not at all sure that Ewing had free reign back in 2017.

Not at all sure that Ewing had free reign back in 2017. And he has even less now! If you think Ewing is making any of these decisions after 0-20, I've got a bridge to sell you. They are being made for him because he's really bad at his job.

I think Ewing has been encouraged to make aggressive moves on the assistant front, but I believe he is the one making these hires.

They are being made for him because he's really bad at his job. Not weighing in on who is hiring the assistants, because I do not know. Not counting my Pegues chicken before it has hatched. But, if we end up with a good result, I AM wondering how that is possible, per those who say every person associated with GU basketball is an idiot. And, wondering whether these will, all of a sudden, be not very good hires, in some peoples' opinions, precisely because they want to have nothing good to say. Agree Ewing and Ronny should be gone. But, looking for a ray of hope, somehow, in that somebody seems to be at least trying to assemble a staff worth having. PS My second ray of hope is that Pegues is negotiating for associate head coach status first year, followed by head coach status in his second.

And, even if they are, will he let them do their thing?

PS My second ray of hope is that Pegues is negotiating for associate head coach status first year, followed by head coach status in his second. Pegues seems like he'd be a great get, but it's sad that almost all of us would prefer Pegues as our head coach over our current one. It doesn't say much for the state of affairs.

Hard to have any ray of hope when Ewing will be the head guy, he hasn't shown any inkling that he's open to changing the way he coaches. When Nickelerry was hired all the remarks from him centered around recruiting which in my opinion isn't the biggest issue. Compare Ewings hiring statement for Nickelberry with Willards hiring of Skin, its night and day.. Pegues would be a great hire but his potential boss(es) really tempers my enthusiasm..

Looking at the attractiveness of the job - if you look at the assistant's job ass backwards you might see it as a win win. You want to come home and work the DMV market. You sign on to a sinking ship for a bunch of cash - the ship goes down but you've done your job well, established great relations in DMV during the year. Ewing gets all the blame - nobody could have saved him - you think I'll be a prime candidate to replace him. GU likes because he would be a lower price option. You help save the ship and you are a miracle worker and a prime candidate for another head coaching or to be coach in waiting at a rising GU program.

I'm sure this will all be a completely functional organization with Ewing not listening to anyone, Ronny grabbing at power, and two assistants ready to snatch the Head Coach's job.

Is there any reason to think either of these guys would be good head coaches? Their head coaching records range from scant to terrible.
