Ronny's commentary has been pretty good; that said, having the coaches brother as an announcer looks bush league. Imagine watching a game with Jay Wright's brother announcing a Villanova game on ESPN. It would be a joke. It makes the whole Fox Sports 1/Big East thing look like amateur hour. Again, I don't think he's a bad announcer. Have him do other team's games. Whatever. Vitale does every Duke game and there is a Syracuse pbp guy for every Orange contest. I think it adds something extra having "Ron" announce our games. He definitely does not act like a homer and can add extra insight on JT II and III. I was in school when he was on the team. Not a great career, although I think he helped keep us in the game against UNLV in '92. If not for some very questionable (actually complete BS) calls against Zo, we could have won. Regarding the Fox broadcast, it is great. We have never had this many nationally televised games. They are incredibly fast on the replays. We don't get all of the ESPN in your face UNC, Duke selling. So I can put up with the occasional here is what you missed in the last minute since we thought this was a long commercial break instead of a short time out.

What is Starks thinking. Up 9 with under 5 and the ball and he throws a horrible outlet pass to Bowen. Turns into a 3 for them. Terrible decision by Starks. I'll chalk this game up to the short turn around from Thursday night.

I watched the game. We were missing wide open 3's, except for one that was put up at the end of the shot clock. Missing 14 in a row is a feat. Starks tried a few of his runners that were just off. Looked for the foul call on a couple that he did not get. Bowen came in and made some things happen. He hit the offense glass and got a put back. He and Jabril have to take the open shot when it is given. Jabril is good on D and gets us some baskets at the hoop. Domingo appeared to be in at the 3 with Cameron at the 4. Hop can dunk, maybe he'll make some finishes inside instead of missing bunnies. He will do well playing the 4 along side Josh. Hop totally fumbled a feed he got in the lane that should have been an easy hoop.
One another note, you guys need to lighten up on each other. Try the ignore feature, it does wonders.

Wittman. Great college career. Mediocre nba career (player). Terrible nba coaching record, although it does not look like he has ever coached a team with any hope of making the playoffs. I am not sure if former players like him can adapt to the current nba style. Go Otto . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Wittman

Thanks for the link. Did Hollis ever dunk in college. I am amazed that he scored 16 points in an nba game. Congrats to him.

Great game by the team. We kept pace with the mid major and put them away. That is the type of game that when the shots aren't falling we lose (ex: NCAA). Zach Lowe made mention of a strategy in the NBA where inferior teams play faster, rather than slower to beat a better team. www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9963071/the-early-season-trends-us-asking-questionsOther thoughts: If Bowen had pulled of the dunk after the steal and behind the back dribble he would have made some highlight reels. But he got blocked and turned the ball over some other times. He needs to value the ball a little more but still should see playing time. Cameron just bought himself a good bit of PT. He was given the early opportunity and produced. Domingo unfortunately has not come thru yet. Hopkins is playing well, much better at the PF position. But please, no more threes. Maybe Nate can team him how to finish at the rim. Jump up with two hands on the ball and throw it thru the center of the rim. Not into the rim. Their defense did a good job collapsing on Smith when he was in the low post and slapped the ball away a few times. "Beef" Stu correctly analyzed this saying that Josh has to keep the ball up. Othella should be able to work with him on this. Josh did not appear to fumble the ball. Often times that defensive hacking motion results in a foul call, but they got lucky, or were good to get ball. Jabril was solid but hopefully will get his jumper working. That will open up the dribble drive which he has been very effective with. Missed the dunk but would not be denied. Markel and DSR were just money. We can't expect them both to be on fire every game, but as long as one has it going from deep, we should be ok. Finally, as mentioned, practice FTs (and FT defense).

Greg is having a great season so far, 17.8 on almost 52% shooting with 11.8 rpg. FT at 78%. I have not seen the pistons play yet. Must be frustrating to watch J smith shoot 43% on 17 attempts per game and Jennings .367 on 16 shots per game. Both are miserable from 3, but at least Jennings averages 7 assists per game.

2nd half starting. We can win this if we hit some threes and limit the fouls. Refs obviously missed the Oregon travels (at least 2) plus the blatant over the back against Nate after the free throw. Gotta go

Thanks for the links. Josh Smith looks big, but must have lost a lot of weight. We'll see what he looks like in a uni. DSR looks very trim, hopefully now super quick. If Hopkins plays as cool and calm as he looks he should have a great year.

Take 6 minutes to watch this video about Josh before he went to UCLA. Seems like a great kid.

I thought Hollis was a great Hoya, but did not think he would play in the NBA. Not quite athletic or strong enough and his handle was a little too loose. He has obviously put in some very hard work and scored his first NBA points tonight, 7 on 3-7 shooting, 1-2 on threes. Philly got blown out, which I think we will see a lot more of as the season progresses. Hopefully this will give Hollis some good playing time and experience. He is only 22, should get better with age. Congratulations to Hollis.

Of course, I have not seen Josh play a whole lot. From what I've heard from vv83 & co. he is quite adept at playing down low in the post, has good footwork, and is a decent passer. My biggest concern with Josh, based on the reports, is his weight. I am just thrilled to have a center. Along with criticizing our lack of a running game (plan), I have also criticize the coaching staff for lack of foresight in shoring up that position. Our fate was pretty much sealed last year because of our strength, or lack thereof at the center position. We have done a Edited poor job of locking up a center--or two in the last two-three years. I have a lot of respect for what JT-3 and the coaching staff continue to do year after year, but, come on! We are suppose to be Big Man U, but that simply is not evidenced in the last couple of years. Now, back to Josh. If Josh can be any where near effective as the kid from Marquette last year I would be dancing for joy. However, I hate the fact that we won't have his services for the first half of the year--again, how did we get in this predicament. Hops, bless his heart, is a trooper and will do whatever it takes to help out the team, but...Now hind sight is, as they say 20-20, but I wished we had concentrated on developing Moses at the center position. He is strong and can battle opposing bigs down low. I am thrilled to see that the staff is going all out to get the kid, Elbert Robinson--and I hope we are able to land him. But never again should we allow ourselves to become so thin at that position. Well, now you guys can poke holes all you want...I am back at work this week teachin' the little uns, so I had to get that off my chest. Aaah! Don't forget about Adams never being able to play and that Moses had the suspension followed by injuries that may have slowed his development. Up until the last minute, the insiders had Noel coming to Georgetown. Then calipari got him somehow, I wonder how.

Otto is too skilled to be Wes Johnson. Here is a link to the daily dime article about Otto. Not that I think he'll be an all star, but he'll figure it out and be solid espn.go.com/nba/dailydime/_/page/dime-130714/daily-dimeBy the way, there is an ignore feature so you can block another members posts. This comes in handy if you find that someone justs posts useless info or personal attacks like the ones in this thread.

It seems that for a long time the team was very lucky in terms of injuries. Lately, we have had a bit of bad luck. Wrights ankle, then his hand. Freeman's diabetes. Otto's concussion, whitt's knee, Adam's ?heart, Moses' knee. I think all teams have guys get hurt but at least we have not had very much in the way of academic or disciplinary issues.

Simmons is a pretty good judge of talent. He also admits when he is wrong so hopefully he will eat his words on this. Otto may not be an all star, but should be a solid pro.
