Ed Cooley is the definition of charisma. He knows how to win over a room. From the serious talking points, to his jokes, the guy is very skilled.
The biggest take home point from the press conference was Ed Cooley's admission: "I needed a change".
Providence is hurt because they love Ed Cooley. Still. He is one of their own. He was born and raised in that city. He built the current foundation that is there now. He won consistently at that program. Coach of the year last year. Money wasn't the issue either. Despite all of that, he left for a program within their own conference. A Georgetown program that just about everybody within the conference, the country, and Providence itself would admit is a much better job.
Historically, the coaches that have done well there, don't stay (Pitino, Gillen, Barnes). It is a stepping stone job. Cooley stayed for 12 years. Had he not been a homegrown guy, he might have left sooner.
Providence knows what they lost in Ed Cooley. What stings more is not the fact that he left, but why he left. So some will find every reason to vilify him rather than swallow that hard pill. It is unfortunate.
On our side of things, he won the press conference. Now the real work begins.
Go Hoyas!

ACC stinks. Media darling conference. Couldn't stand them back in the day, glad to see they are still weak and overrated now. The Big East was always better. Objectively speaking, of course. Better brand of basketball. More interesting programs. Basketball-wise, NYC,Philly, DC, Baltimore, etc. identifies more with the Northeast than down south. Basketball is king in those areas. The more south you go,the more football becomes the priority.

This is a good day and a good hire.
Let's celebrate and be positive.
Feels good to have hope again. Better than being negative all the time.
Feeling good, well, feels good.
Cooley is an upbeat and positive guy. We got Rich still calling the games. He has seen the highs and lows, and the man is as upbeat and serene as ever.
Go Hoyas!

Getting ugly - law suit filed by Mike Anderson about the $11 million that would have been owed him. Not our problem.

This is so amusing... All those folks talking the GU brand has been diminished and all this 2nd class citizen nonsense etc. You see GU basketball still has brand and cultural importance. Pitino, who some of you believe is the best coach of his generation, is sitting, waiting and hoping GU calls him. All coaches rumored to be in contention for the GU job have getting raises or extensions. During Ewing's tenure, he brought in a top 5 transfered portal class, NBA level talent, and a 5 star recruit, and won a big east championship. What could a coach like Cooley do? Hoya Paranoia! Doom and Gloomers are going to doom and gloom. They can't help it. Just remember when EWing and Co won the Big East tournament a couple of years ago. Fox sports and Big East commissioner were grinning from ear to ear. G-town still carries weight despite the narratives people like to pump out. No matter how hard they try. The brand is as strong as ever.

Someone posted that Cooley was on record as only wanting to coach til age 60. Thats all fun and games to say until he turns 59. Barring health, the goalposts will move. Maybe, but could see Cooley transitioning to media like Jay Wright and JT2. JT2 was near 60 and Jay Wright is 61 when they retired. Cooley would be great in a media, analyst role for basketball.

If this is the case, I don't want someone who would not be standup: The Simon Charles account is a spoof. Look at his other tweets. Watson’s dad however I don’t know his motivations to be so defiant. That isn't the only spoof. Wait and see approach.

Big 10 gets overrated by the media in Football and Basketball.
Izzo's Michigan St. is a okay but not one of his better teams. That doesn't matter come tournament time. They are still playing now when it matters most.

Cooley is a class act. That interview was real. He was upfront about it. At least we got to hear it from Cooley himself and not the "pundits" who said it was a done deal. You don't know where he is leaning. Seems like he is more at a crossroads. Sometime leaving your comfort zone to see what else is out there is what you feel compelled to do. Part of him might feel like 'what if' if he doesn't take the opportunity. This is no different from any other job. If somebody is offering, you listen to what they have to say. Even if you aren't interested. You never know. You might never get that opportunity again. We'll see. To me that interview comes across as “it’s not you, it’s me”. I think Cooley is trying to soften the blow and let Friar fans (at least publicly) know he isn’t leaving because of something they did or didn’t do. I think he wants to return there and not be booed out of the building, and this is setting the stage for the softest landing possible as he tries to thread that needle. If a change of scenery and new challenge is really the motivator, it does speak to their weird demise the last month of the season, as perhaps he felt he had one foot out the door already. He is just being honest. It is not an easy decision, for all involved. There were "reports" that he was unhappy with admin or the AD, etc. He shut that down. He doesn't know what he wants. Part of him wants to possibly see what is out there, but Providence is also his home and they have a good thing going.
