Yes, clearly a very small sample, and we must be very careful about conclusions…..but it is a hell of a lot more evidence than most of the assessments posted on this board have.

I agree we need that kind of contribution from Tim. I was a bit nervous when he played defense on the 1st possession with his arms too horizontal over the defender, i never saw him do it again that badly the rest of the game,

A couple of observations from scanning various sites:
So far we are averaging 72.5 possessions (#72) which is lower than I expected (KenPom). We have had segments of both games in which we played at a much faster pace but on average we aren't playing that fast.
So far, this team has been able to rebound well...especially defensively. Tim, Aminu, Dante, and Jalin all seem particularly well suited for defensive rebounding. (Yes, Dante...he skies for boards). Besides our centers, Aminu is a extremely talented offensive rebounder, but offensive rebounding is not showing up a strength for the team as defensive is.
Except for Don (56%) and Aminu (42%), everyone else is really struggling from 3 point shooting between 20-33% so far.
Don has so far played the most efficiently/effectively. We need to see if he can maintain that with increased possessions used.
So far we are not giving up a ton of free throws. We rank #22 in FTA/FGA. So that is good news and a bit refreshing. At least we shouldn't consistently have massive free throw deficits.
We have changed from one of the best shooting free throw Hoya teams to one of the worst. So far we are shooting 63%. Aminu, Jordon, and Dante need to figure that out as they are the culprits.
47% of our opponents' attempts are 3 pointers vs. 32% for us. That is a recipe for losing. Both those numbers need to moderate.
Our teams ranks #331 in experience...and we have been feeling every bit of that. The good news is that this team can only improve over the course of this season. We will take our lumps at times, but I think we will also have our moments.
Minutes last night were incredibly balanced. 10 players played more than 9 minutes...and Collin and Kobe weren't even available. From listening to Ewing getting experience across the roster might be a priority for the season.
I will be interested to see what others glean from the data so far.

Dante missed 4 free throws on 39 attempts last year. He has missed 3 on 8 attempts this year. I hope he can regain his form and rebuild his confidence.

Other opinions do not equal garbage. Opinions are opinions. For what it’s worth, the most important statistics used to judge players conclude Harris was borderline extraordinarily bad last season and in the first game this year. I’m personally going to cut him some slack because he was thrown into the fire and basketball is about more than just what analytics and the stat sheets say. However, saying it’s “garbage” to have a different opinion is childish. As long as we all agree we want to see these kids succeed I’m personally not upset if someone sees things differently. I also think it’s important to differentiate between facts and opinions and realism and pessimism. You’re not following this very well. The garbage is the repetitive posting. And the crapping on a kid who seems to be a model Hoya…humble, team first, great leadership. He has done everything asked of him..even when too much was asked of him.

He has filled the stat sheet through 2 games, but on re-watch there on also a lot to clean up too. He is no where near his ceiling.

If Rice can’t hit, it makes the rotation easier as he brings little else.

And the #10 team was missing their best player.

Also, Akinjo had a better assist-to-turnover ratio than Dante Harris as a freshman at Georgetown. So the notion that it was a "big issue" for Akinjo compared to Harris is false. You are missing the point. Dante had 5 assists to zero turn overs on Saturday. I'm not comparing freshman Dante to freshman Akinjo. I'm saying that if Dante can dish like that while limiting turnovers, it will go a long way to alleviating the TO issue which has been endemic of late (including during Akinjo's time on the Hilltop). Yea, but some of his shots were effectively turnovers. That stat is misleading here.

If TJ Berger had played for Dartmouth yesterday, we would all want him on our team as a three point shooter. 🤔 With Berger's poor defense Dartmouth could have had 10 more points. His defense improved as last year went a long, but with Beard coming and he wasn't going to move Harris off the point he was two down at point. Berger's lack of speed also was an issue, which hurt on defense. He was going to be two or three down at off ball guard. For him he made a good move where he will get to play more and grow. He has insanely good court vision in transition and great passing, but needed work in his half court game with handles, quickness, and shooting on the move. That shouldn't be as big of an issue in San Diego. At some point we need outside shooting to ever achieve our goals. Think for a moment about whom is a + three point shooter on next years roster 😲

Cornish (for that 1 game) was what I hoped Berger could become for the Hoyas…oh well.

He was impressive. I hope Riley has a higher ceiling over several years. He would seem to be the scholly that could have been used there…if Cornish was willing to stay in town.

Dartmouth looked bad their first game of the year. We looked bad the first game of the year. I think we should look better simply from having a game under our belt.

When we were in school my friends and I didn’t miss a game, and continued to follow the program very closely through the next ten years or so. Yesterday, nobody commented on the group text until after the game, and the discussion was started by one of the guys—who still lives in DC but didn’t attend or watch the game—saying “we lost to Dartmouth?” This is a ten-person chat that would be blowing up in real-time during games in past years. Obviously it’s anecdotal, and part of the decline in interest is likely attributable to marriage, children, etc., but the decline in interest is palpable among the former die-hards in my circle. Yet, the student seats were packed....a comment we hadn't heard in a while.

We basically got 8 points from the center position (Wilson/Mutombo), 9 points from the 4 (Rice/Jalin), 8 from PG (Dante/Beard)
That is not going to win many games.

We looked bad, flat out bad, pretty much all aspects of the game. Our players are not playing to their potential, which I believe has been the case for Ewing's 5 years. He is a nice person a d a hard worker........but has not been a good coach. Well, he has been a bad coach! Tell me who plays to their potential on November 13 with 3 returning players one of which is Malcolm Wilson and 5 freshman in their 1st game. Hopefully, this was a productive learning experience for all. This team will be better in March than it is in November.

We don't have a surplus of outside shooters. I was hoping Jalin would be far enough along to play a small 5 so that we could play 5 out and open up driving for elite slashers Aminu and Riley.

Something to keep in mind as we evaluate this game.
We had 6 returning players coming into this season. 3 of them were unavailable yesterday. 1 of the 3 remaining returning players was Malcolm Wilson, the least game experienced player returning.
It was Dante, Carey, Wilson and 6 newcomers - 5 of which were freshmen.
How else was this going to turn out? Are Tim, Kobe, and Collin, huge difference makers? Maybe not but they have some seasoning in the program that may have shown some poise on the floor when it mattered.

That was not good. .
We have gotten next to nothing from the veteran players.
Hopefully, some of those shots will start to drop.
