Best Hoya Dunk.
1978, Georgetown against Detroit in McDonnough, late in the season with both teams ranked at the bottom of the top 20, late in what became a one point game.
Craig ((Big Sky) Shelton takes a feed from John Duren and goes up against big leaper and future 11 year pro Terry Tyler, with both players eyes at the level of the rim. Big Sky forces the ball down through the hoop, almost breaking Tyler's wrists that are in the cylinder and bent backward by the force of Big Sky's dunk.

Efficiency ratings are averaged at 15.0. Not sure what stat you are looking at. His is just above 15 which is poor for a starter especially if you consider our SOS is below 300 and he's coming off a ridiculous shooting performance. What metric are you talking about? PER? (And his current PER from sports ref is 19). PER is an outdated metric that has a high usage bias. Regardless of the name, it's not a pure efficiency metric, and is not a very good overall metric, either, frankly. Rice's offensive rating is 122. That's a very efficient number. His usage isn't even that low. If Rice has an issue, it's defensive. For reference, Otto Porter's full season offensive rating for his All American season in 2012-3 was 118.8.

Exactly. The program needs shooters, as everyone on this board has been talking about for years, and this kid is a shooter!!! Would everyone, staff included, want him to be more consistent from game to game? Sure, and hopefully he can find that consistency over the next few weeks and ride it for the rest of the season. He is a very high level shooter with a super quick release. The Hoyas are lucky to have him and the more nights he can have like last night, the more confidence he develops which just leads to more consistency. I'm not doubting the kid can get hot from behind the arc. I'm just thinking to myself that on no top level Big East team is there a starter who could go 10-12 from 3 in one of his 8 games so far and still have a poor efficiency rating on the season against by far the weakest schedule in the conference so far. I'm recognizing that somebody who usually plays over 30 minutes a game and averages less than 3/4 of an assist is probably not helping run the offense. Why do you guys think we are 4-4 having played a scheduled ranked below 300 in SOS if all these guys are so dang good at basketball? Rice can be a helpful guy to have as a spark off the bench on a good team especially when you need to score in bunches, but that's all his role would be on probably 7 of the other 10 BE teams. Except that he doesn't have a poor efficiency rating on the season. Year to date, his efficiency rating is 122.4 by Kenpom which would put him in the top 15% of all NCAA starters and with far higher usage than most players with higher offensive ratings.

The Charles Dickens' "Best of Times, Worst of Times" award has to apply to Kaiden's last two games.
His Kenpom game score of 195 for last night's game is by far the highest score for any Hoya with major minutes since I have been following the site - more than a decade.
Similarly, his South Carolina score of 6 is by far the worst I have ever seen.

Otto's shot has been off, but his defense and, especially, rebounding have both been strong.

One of the nicest and most genuine people I have ever met. His passion and perspective will be sorely missed. if there's a HoyaTalk Heaven then you know they'll have one hell of a band.

Thanks to NBA Full Court, the DVR and fast forward, I have probably seen 85-90% of the minutes that Jeff has played in the NBA. The one thing that is absolutely clear is that he is playing in significant pain, not getting up off the bench to cheer when he is not playing, and often not running up the court.
Jeff just played brilliantly in his own version of the Willis Reed game.
I wonder about his availability - and Harden's - for game 6.

While updating the all-time recruiting page, I came across another two names of players signed by (but never played) for Georgetown. Some of you passed along the long-lost story of Joe (Sherlock) Holmes a few years ago, so I'm asking who knows anything more about these two: 1. Barry Scott (Dunbar HS/Baltimore): Was signed by Georgetown in 1979, was said to "rethink his college plans" according to John Thompson; another book said there were street agents involved and Thompson backed off. 2. Arnie Russell (TC Williams HS/Alexandria): The #53 ranked recruit of 1980, signed by Georgetown in 1980, appears to have gone JC and played at Iona. Gene Smith briefly mentioned Russell without naming him on an episode of Hoya Locker Room, noting that he was roommates freshman year with Ray Knight and Fred Brown's roommate "never showed up". BTW, Brown was the #30 recruit nationally that season, Georgetown highest recruit ever, until Ewing (#1) and Anthony Jones (#5) arrived. With the Internet, it's tougher for Georgetown signees to disappear. The most recent example was Luke Martin, a 6-2 guard from Sydney, Australia who was announced as a signee in 2000, played at Kenner, and then suddenly ended up at UTEP. He enjoyed a 13 year career in the Australian pro leagues. Before the knee injury knocked him out of the senior year rankings, Craig Shelton was listed among the top 5 recruits in the nation in the high school class of 1976.

Jeff finishes plus 10 vs Gasol and ends the regular season in 232nd place in career scoring.
He has been ridiculously efficient in the past three games, going 18 of 22 from the field including 9 of 12 from 3.
