exerpt Georgetown Strength: Cramming it down your throat. That’s the only way to describe the Hoya offense. Never before* has there been a combination of shooting efficiency (4th nationally) and offensive rebounding (7th nationally) seen in the sport. And they seem to be getting better in the tournament. Both Oden and Hibbert draw fouls like crazy, so I think it’s likely that both guys will be managing foul trouble during this one. So it’s imperative for Ohio State to force a few 3’s to keep the pressure off of the middle. Georgetown isn’t Northwestern - everybody can crash the offensive boards for Georgetown, and if Oden can’t stay on the floor, that problem will only get worse. *since 2003-04 season kenpom.com/blog/

Walking into the Kingdome before the Saturday semi-final in 1984, we ran into Dick Vitale (before he became Dukie V). We reminded him of the incredible Georgetown-Detroit game - he had been Detroit's coach - from 1978 and he agreed that it was a great game but also reminded us that Detroit had blown us out at their place the next year. We asked him who he was picking to win it all and he said the Hoyas. oops

Six of us will be there. Four of us from the class of 78 and one each from 1979 and 1981.

SirSaxa's move from Hawaii to New Jersey was the weekend's correct travelling call. It was great to meet him.
Well, well done.

The other shot that belongs on this list is the Derrick Jackson jump shot at the buzzer vs. West Virginia that put the Hoyas in the NCAA in 1975.

I believe that the University is on the hook to pay for 500 hotel rooms. If the rooms aren't booked by alums the University has to eat that cost. Essentially it's a sunk cost that has to come out of the program's operating budget. If alums opt for the package and cover the room expense than the University won't have to divert funds from its budget or the HHC. I don't know your sources, but it doesn't seem to make sense that GU is "on the hook" for 500 rooms unless they agreed to it specifically. If they did agree to it, then they should have known whether they'd be able to fill them before agreeing or they are fools. Really doubt the NCAA can force a member to buy hotel rooms against their will. This is probably all moot anyway because 500 is not a very large number based on what I saw at the Meadowlands and Verizon all year. I am not a fan of how the athletic department is handling this but I can absolutely validate that the NCAA makes the school take the rooms. In that context "fools" is unwarranted

This is my understanding of the ticket situation based on some in depth conversations tonight.
Georgetown gets 2500 tickets and is forced to take 500 hotel rooms from the NCAA. Georgetown will start selling tickets only once the hotel rooms are gone. If you estimate that there will be an average 2 and one half tickets per room then the hotel tickets will total about 1250. Estimate 200 for the university, players families etc. Maybe 350 for students. That would leave approximately 700 tickets for hoop club members, based on donor priority, with many of the highest level donors having opted to buy the package.

Has there been a better 7-footer showdown since Ewing/Sampson? Yes. Ewing - Olajuwon

My wife is a 10 in this regard. Her birthday is in late march, and especially in the earlier years of our 26+ year marriage, this meant that I was away a lot on her birthday. With the teams recent resurgence she is resigned to more missed birthdays.
When we got married, I told her that I was not going to wear a wedding ring since I don't wear any jewelery of any kind - no watches, chains or bracelets - because I would play with the jewelery. She was not convinced. Then I pointed out that "how can I wear a wedding ring when I don't even where a Georgetown ring." She understood. That's a 10.

JonnyStrongLeg - Wow.
For what its worth my view is that the 1996 team was the most underachieving team to wear a Hoya uniform. I can't decide if this current Hoya team are overachievers, or if the style that we play just makes it seem that way.
In a game between the two, I suspect that the 2007 team would prevail because they are better coached, but I would be worried that the current team would have a lot of trouble getting the ball up the floor.

Pre-game articles posted on the front page. Stop by and take a look. I have been trying to figure out what I was going to do to get me through to game time. Fortunately, DFW has linked 46 articles to keep me occupied. Awesome effort DFW.

I was worried about bc and vandy, but I'm truthfully not that worried about unc. We will be underdogs and I think that means we will play loose and focused. I have a feeling that we will find out outside stroke again. We match up well against their frontcourt. They have no legit perimeter threat. This sets up nicely for an upset. We will be underdogs from here on out (except if oregon or memphis make the finals) and the pressures off. I think that translates into better outside shooting and a much more efficient offense. I'm not sure it is a good omen when the Pope goes positive on us.

I love this board, but I wholeheartedly agree with Big Dog's perspective. Anything happening in college hoops is part of the melange that is Georgetown Basketball.
