I'm not enraged here, just curious (and mildly annoyed). When did we decide it was necessary to vigorously move all non-directly-GU related college basketball threads onto the other board? It hasn't always been this way. I like coming right to HoyaTalk, and since we can assume 99% of the people are here because they want to talk college hoops, it makes sense to me to leave any college hoops related thread in a prominent place. After three years in this format and plenty more from the old board, I don't want to change my viewing habits.
Besides, in a sense all college hoops discussion is Georgetown related, because when you're a national powerhouse you have to be concerned with what's happening to other programs around the country. They're our potential hurdles on the way to 25 consecutive national championships.

Mods: Please move this thread to the non-Hoya basketball, Blue & Gray board where it belongs.
Thank you.

Totally agreed. I assume most people come straight to this board, and will therefore miss discussion of topics moved elsewhere. A thread on Pro and College Sports simply isn't going to get the same traffic.
Some boards have so many users and threads that it requires strict divisions - this isn't one of them. It isn't as if we'd have day old threads on the 5th page if we allowed a little general college hoops talk.

Seems like we should move that "3rd round" thread out of here.

How about HoyaTalk, along with NCAA Basketball (Men's & Women's on the same board, of course), and a separate board for all other NCAA & Pro sports?
The NCAA Basketball board could play host to non-GU threads typically moved off HoyaTalk (e.g. Transfer Threads---UConn; Early Entry Threads---McRoberts; Coaching Changes---Tubby & Alford, etc.)
Not a sermon; just a thought....................

Mods: Please move this thread to the non-Hoya basketball, Blue & Gray board where it belongs. Thank you. What's funny is that i realized that technically this thread might belong in one of the other subdivisions. Of course, placing it there would have defeated my very purpose, while strangely confirming the legitimacy of my fears--that nobody goes over there to read anything!

I love this board, but I wholeheartedly agree with Big Dog's perspective. Anything happening in college hoops is part of the melange that is Georgetown Basketball.

This board should obviously be all about men's college basketball, even if it's not directly about the Hoyas. I thought that's how it always was?

BD, to address your point: when we have 5 threads about how much regionals tickets face value is, 3 about Tom Crean, one each about each possible transfer or coaching change at another school, etc, Hoya-related threads get quickly pushed off the first page, which only holds 20 threads. Like it or not, the majority of posters here are not thorough enough to wade even 2 or 3 pages deep on the Hoyatalk board, leading to multiple duplicate posts. The mods pick threads to move as judiciously as possible - most often they are marked with a clickable post indicating where they went. It is really not all that difficult a process. vegasrain: the Pro & College sports board is for all non-Hoya-related NCAA sports, including hoops. As a final point, many posters here never even venture to the front page at all and I would wager that some do not know it exists. They ought to try it out sometime. www.hoyasaxa.com/sports/bball.htm/hoyachris: we try to do that as well, but 4-5 separate posts about each coaching vacancy or transfer in one day buries posts most people are interested in very fast.

What are you talking about, "no one reads the other boards."!!!
Damn, some of my funniest stuff is over there! (OK, funny to me may not mean funny to you, but I have no proof that the majority of you even exist, so that doesn't bother me so much.)
If: the discussion boards change every day
Then: the discussion boards are a living thing.
Ergo: the discussion boards are a person.
Conclusion: this thread constitutes an ad hominem attack against the discussion boards. Please remove it immediately****

Dan, I wonder if we could have different enforcement of these rules depending on the time of year, board traffic, etc. This week, and really for the past month (if not the whole season), I can totally understand moving things not directly on point to other boards, but what drives me nuts is when it is the off season and there is something interesting going on at UCONN, or wherever, and NOTHING going on here, and the thread about whatever non-Hoya (but still interesting to Hoya fans) things gets promptly exiled to one of the second-string boards. What I am saying is March's clutter maybe the only thing going on in July, and thus should stay on the main page if posted in a "slow" time. I also miss the Superman threads, and things like that, but I totally understand that the recent success of the program probably means we won't see those stay on the main page anymore

Dan, I'm one of those lazy souls who never ventures past the first page. And I like the way you guys combine threads to minimize clutter. It just seems to me that posts about Steve Alford leaving or Tubby Smith going to Minnesota ought to linger around here. I had no idea Alford was leaving until RDF went a step further and tied it to Gtown, because I never bother to look for breaking news in the other threads. Generally speaking, if having everything in one place means I've got to click a page or two deep to find more Hoyas content, I'll do it. I just don't want to back out of HoyaTalk. Besides, its already clear that there are plenty of people who click several pages deep. When they find something interesting and revive the thread, it brings it to everyone else's attention.

Dan-
"vegasrain: the Pro & College sports board is for all non-Hoya-related NCAA sports, including hoops."
I'm very much aware of this, which is why I suggested (albeit in a potentially convoluted manner) splitting 2 existing boards into 3 (if there is space). HoyaTalk & Pro & College Sports to:
HoyaTalk -- GU-SPECIFIC basketball chatter
NCAA Hoops-- All other NCAA BASKETBALL-related chatter
Other (name as you wish)-- All OTHER non-Hoya NCAA and Professional chatter

VR: we're always open to doing so and making changes that make this place easier to use. Problem is that (at least until now) traffic on those other subjects hasn't been enough to warrant individual fora.

I like the way we have it now. I think that there has been a lot of moving recently, and on some of these the mods may have used an itchy trigger finger, but I think that for the most part our current format works really well. I agree with DanMcQ that if we allow other teams' information on HT, then the Georgetown threads will get pushed too quickly. And besides, it would give HiFi his best excuse yet to butt his oversized Gator head right into the center of our beloved board. We cannot let this happen. 98% of the time the mods get it right; let's not make any drastic, cluttering changes over a few mistakes.

I understand the desire to keep everything neat and orderly, and I like when threads on similar topics are merged or when threads on the exact same topic are locked...
But I'd definitely agree with Big Dog et. al. Keeping this board to strictly Georgetown basketball stuff makes it pretty limited. In all honesty, I think we really only need 2 boards--one for Sports topics and one for "off-topic". Or, having one for college sports and one for pro sports in addition to off-topic stuff would work. On most other boards I ever visit that's basically the set up they go with and, IMHO, it's a better setup that makes for more interesting topics on the front page every visit.
Just my 2 cents
