Why don't we torture people to get information on murders or kidnappings? Or theft? Or to get the truth in a civil trial? As Americans, we are supposed to be better than that. The job of law enforcement officers would be easier if they didn't have so many limitations. But we purposely set out to form a set of laws and a society that doesn't run to what's easiest, but rather what's right. If we don't follow our principles, they're not principles. We either torture or we don't. Also, let's also remember that waterboarding was not the worst of what was done. People were killed in interrogations. The discussion of when torture would be permitted is to me a discussion of changing some fundamental principles of America. The theft and civil trial stuff is a strawman. The argument which is made alleges that there may be certain circumstances where information is required to save numberous lives - not for evidentiary cases. A fair number of people say that that's both immoral and ineffective. There's a real debate on this issue - let's not let other items cloud it. I'm sorry but how is that a strawman? You allege that this argument is only about saving 'numberous' lives, I'm asking where that line is drawn. There are numerous situations, not always involving terrorism, where lives can potentially be at stake. Should torture be a common tool of police interrogators? The argument about evidentiary cases was made to question whether or not the fact that something works (which is arguable) means it SHOULD be used.

Why waste your time getting annoyed at an opinion piece that you disagree with?

I don't see this as particularly suprising, and I also don't see it as very unreasonable. The extremes of the right are definitely charged up, and taking note of it doesn't seem too crazy.
That being said, I hope that any action taken or extra attention paid to these issues are done within the scope of the law. I'm almost numb to the disgusting (and often times illegal) tactics used by the government to monitor people and groups, both on the left and the right.

i do think that the 'we are' chant came off poorly at the time. we were down and being outplayed, and it just seemed tone deaf to the situation.
it has nothing to do with being a 'real' fan or not.
a lecture about how to be a fan and how we're always georgetown is ridiculous. it sounded stupid at the time.

Can we create two permanent threads in this board?
1- Illegal/Sketchy/Inappropriate/Unethical behavior by Democrats 2- Illegal/Sketchy/Inappropriate/Unethical behavior by Republicans
Or should I just start a new thread any time I think there should be publicity given to Republican misdeeds?

I was more bothered by the fact that a talk show host was in the front row and he took a question from HuffPo? What's next, Chris Matthews in the front row? Yeah, let's get some more gay prostitutes without any journalistic connections
