It was interesting being at the game this afternoon. I haven’t been to a Hoyas game at home this year but the crowd was loud about firing Anderson.
I was actually impressed overall with the atmosphere at the garden. If they are able to pull Pitino they are a sleeping giant.

Does a 2 game winning streak buy us another year? I’m actually serious.

No need to state the obvious about the game.
Instead….we’re they really playing Céline Dione “My Heart Will Go On” at the under 4 timeout? Was this a reference to the titanic or just showing how inept everything is by making it the worst atmosphere in college basketball?

It's such an abomination right now. I think Pat and Jack are the only two people who don't realize that ending this immediately is the only reasonable solution. Whatever they think they're proving by letting this go on--Pat that he's a warrior who will never quit, Jack that he's super respectful of Pat for his efforts and contributions to the university--they need to realize that they are not accomplishing those goals and move forward accordingly. Nobody is watching this season and saying "Patrick Ewing is a warrior, he never quit!" even if they do sneak out a few wins. And nobody is watching this all unfold and thinking "Jack Degioia is doing the right thing here, giving Patrick a chance to fix it." Maybe "by the book" a mid-season parting of ways carries some stigma, but under the circumstances it is the only reasonable, responsible, and courteous thing to do. Whether it's immediate or an announcement of change at the end of the season, it's past time. Subjecting everyone to this for 2+ more months accomplishes absolutely nothing other than making everyone who cares about this program miserable. 100% agree. It’s one thing to make poor decisions and recognize the need is to correct it as soon as possible, but it’s another “level of bad” and poor stewardship to be so out-of-touch that you recognize the need for change but choose the direction of ‘what looks best for me’. Jack is fumbling about, and he should be embarrassed. If you’ve followed Jack’s tenure as president this is exactly how he “leads.” Wait and see what the “appropriate” move is and then choose the path of least resistance.

Highest likelihood…..
Good old Jack standing next to Amaker or James Jones on a podium with Ronny smiling in a corner.

Agree about Amaker and Nickleberry, but it would be very Hoya-ish to throw some bucks at soon to be 59-year-old James Jones of Yale. He's had a recent run of success and brings an "academic pedigree." I am absolutely not endorsing this, but the guy might be ready for a pay day as he nears 60. Plus he only lost to Butler by 10 on the road. If I had to bet money today, he's the one I'd bet on. He is the most anodyne possible hire. He's objectively a better basketball coach than Ewing, nobody can argue that. He's coming from Yale, and I imagine in most cases when Georgetown is able to hire someone away from Yale it's a coup. For that reason it will go over well with the academic-types DeGioia hangs out with, and he can talk up in the press conference how Jones understands recruiting successful "student athletes" to a demanding academic institution etc. And because Jones is black, JD will be insulated from any criticism that might come from handing over the program to a white guy (I don't need a reminder on Esherick and not trying to be provocative on this point, just saying that we all know there are going to be some people who will be loudly critical if the next head coach is white). It's a nice, safe hire for Jack who nobody can really criticize too much in the short-term, and in the longer-term JD will have retired and it'll be somebody else's problem. Will recruits be lining up to play for James Jones? Will he grab headlines or win the press conference? Does he have any NIL experience? Probably not to all of the above. But he's a very very safe pick that at the very beginning will shield JD from criticism from the basketball-minded people, the academics, the DEI-focused, and pretty much every major constituency that's watching the hire closely. And that's what I think someone like him is going to want. This is why the university as a whole needs new leadership. A new hire isn’t about Jack getting a pat on the back from every group out there. It should be about reestablishing ourselves as a national program. The safe pick is never going to get the results you want. A true leader has vision and takes a risk.

How the hell does a coach survive 0-20? T > G Couple that with one of the weakest university presidents in the country and now we hold the new record or 25 straight Big East losses.

Turn on the UConn/Providence game. Compare that to the atmosphere at our games. Jack has made decision after decision to deprive us of enjoying our University in this manner and giving us something to be proud. His entire tenure is a case study in leading from behind.

Get your check book and buyout Ewing contract. I said this last season when there was discussion about the buyout. It’s quite obvious now that JD will honor the contract until expiration date. It’s almost as if JT2 and JD had ample time to discuss the future of Gtown basketball while JT2 was alive. JD has loyalties that extend back four decades. No normal coach could survive 0-20, even at GU. No one could have imagined the depths that we would reach. JD’s stomach is probably turning with every loss. I do think he cares about the program, but is in an uncomfortable situation for someone of his nature. While not an easy situation this has put Jack’s incompetence in the public light. He has to do something here. Probably the easiest way out is a joint announcement that Ewing will finish out the season and then step down. It allows the most important thing for the program….time to start the search now.

People are throwing around some really sub-standard nominations for who knows why They are scared of change and doing what is best for the program. For some reason there always has to be a Thompson or D.C. tie in order to consider a coach. Jack doesn’t have the fortitude to make a good hire so we are in a spiral.

Can someone please explain to me what nefarious activity is taking place at the other schools throughout the Big East? This holier than thou attitude is pure laziness and an excuse to bury their heads about how inept they are at running a program.

In Morocco and only got to see the box score….is there a reason why Akon’s stat line is practically zeros across the board? He only played six minutes. He exited in the first half and never came back in. Same with Heath.

Ryan played in 27 games last year and averaged close to 12 minutes. He’s only seen the court in 5 games so far. I understand Qudus is back but it is ridiculous he played 34 minutes last night. How is it possible that Ryan isn’t even an option? What’s the worst that can happen? We lose?

My new greatest fear is both of Georgetown and St. John’s open up after this season and Pitino picks them over us because the admin tries to force Ronny onto him. My greatest fear is that Pitino isn’t even a consideration for the University. It is the obvious move to make and national writers have even begun to tweet about him as the person to save the program. This just means good old Jack will bury his head in the sand and choose Amaker and make up some BS about academic integrity (meanwhile 3 full recruiting classes have left under HIS and Ewing’s watch). The guy has no spine to make a good move:

It is so obvious that Ewing is not a coach, and DeGioia sits back while our once proud basketball program has become an utter failure. Shame on DeGioia and shame on Ewing! Both should resign, now! If not, fire them now! If this school had any pride an announcement would be made that Ewing has decided to step down or has decided to coach the remainder of the year and then step down. The problem is the elitist attitude of the President of the University doesn't allow him to see the ineptitude taking place. The Emperor has no clothes.

Depaul is pretty bad once the defense sets up and gives a little effort. Play the guards tight and let their post players try to score.

This program has been irrelevant for a decade now. We are not playing in games that matter, like in the second week of the NCAAs. No one cares about the BET, NCAA performance is everything. It’s been almost 16 years since we made the second weekend which is just insane to think about. I was in 7th grade and now I’m 28 years old lol This is absolutely awful. The fact that some on here continue to defend this is despicable. What’s even worse is that The President of the University is pretending that we are in a position that can’t succeed. When are we going to realize this is all a sham to continue to pay the Thompson’s for nothing?

I pretty firmly believe Reed has had nothing to do with the basketball program. He's a very good AD whose tenure has included significant success in the majority of Georgetown sports. Perhaps, but if the ATHLETIC DIRECTOR can't provide insight/ask questions/suggest a change regarding the flagship program at the university, that is a giant problem. Who's the basketball AD if not Reed? Ronny Thompson is the “Chief of Staff” and likely The AD. The program reports to the President (above the AD so the Thompson’s have as much control as possible.

To the actual basketball answer: we’re screwed. Jack would rather the ship sink because he loves the captain who ran us into an iceberg instead of calling for lifeboats. The only thing worse than ignorance is awareness and just making a conscious effort to do nothing. Glad the alum asked the question…Jack should be asked this at every fundraiser along with the follow-up of “what if things continue on their current trajectory and don’t improve?” If you’re gonna be asked to cut what I’m sure isn’t an insignificant sum, I think you’re owed an answer to that. It's even worse than sinking with the guy he loves. The sinking ship will make him feel like he was right and justified in not wanting NIL. It's a double win. he gets to keep his friend and he was right in his mind. We also brought in what was considered the #2 transfer class but I am sure he doesn't realize that. This is corruption at its finest. I understand that some here feel a deep sense of loyalty and pride to the school and you are free to spend your money however you like. I just can't imagine giving anything to the guy that just spewed that BS to protect his corruption. He has needed to go for years. The University desperately needs new blood/ideas. He can take his beloved Thompson family with him and they can all enjoy retirement together.

Georgetown hanging around They're playing pretty well right now on both sides of the ball. They are playing with a lot more energy.
