This game was reffed horribly. Claude was just failing into people and getting calls. The 5th on Styles was egregious. Way too many calls but doesn't matter. Up 12 at HT. Figure it out.

Had to post again. Don't know what to say about that one. Coaching staff and players should have to walk back to 37th and O.

Brumbaugh, Cook and Styles are the building blocks. Maybe Fielder. I was told at the beginning of the season that Cooley would land the plane during close games. Yeah this is tougher than the others. 60 points conceded in 2nd half. Not sure there is anything good to say right now.

Rowan honing his stat line in closing minutes. Styles and Heath: 9-20 Rest of Team: 5-31 When you can remember nearly every FG in a game im guessing that is a problem.

Start the game on time and finish the job that wasn't finished in DC. Welp, 0 for 2. Can’t spot teams 20 point leads in the first half. The recipe now is to completely deny Epps the ball, make sure he doesn’t get going and your work is done because, as Jim Spanarkel aptly observed, “rattled shots.” Sean Miller did it late when we were on road at X and hasn't stopped since.

Which thread can I go to? Do we have any shot at Dug? Judah? Others? We need a big, defense first, pass first PG like AJ Hoggard. Mints and Dug are fools gold. No one other than Epps or them would ever touch the ball. Ok. I'm not Tom Konchalski. Can we get AJ?

But please leave Styles in. Need him to stop deferring to teammates that he should not be deferring to.

I would seriously play "the bench" the rest of the game. Not including Bristol. Go small. It doesn't matter. Let's encourage underclassmen to be here when we turn this around.

Going to the game. More than anything (okay a win would be nice) I'd love to see a big student turnout. No reason not to be. Geez kids if you can't spare 3-4 hours on a Saturday afternoon to go downtown, pull for the Hoyas and have a few beers at area pubs then maybe you should reorder your priorities. YES.

"The difference a coach makes | Banners on the Parkway On Georgetown’s last possession, Coach Miller did something he hadn’t all day. With Jayden Epps having the game of his life, Miller ran two long defenders at him to make him give the ball up. It ended up in the hands of Jay Heath, who was a scorching 1-8 in the second half. Georgetown’s second plan, abject panic. didn’t pan out. Xavier won. Maybe that’s unfair on Ed Cooley, who might be a good coach but hasn’t really demonstrated that. Georgetown had indeed run Xavier close in a game they shouldn’t have, but consider that they shot 47.8% behind the arc, missed just one of 21 free throws, and only turned the ball over on 13% of their possessions and still couldn’t get the win. With Jay Heath obviously flagging, Cooley wouldn’t take him out. Heath was exhausted and played all 40 minutes. In one of those things that always happens, the ball found him at the end." www.casualhoya.com/2024/1/22/24044746/links-georgetown-hoyas-show-some-maturation-xavier-host-butler-tuesday-epps-styles-cook-heath-cooleyWe still ended up getting a contested layup, a put back attempt, and a guy wide open for a 3 that Jay either didn't see or ignored. Agreed was a great move by Miller, but I wouldn't call what transpired abject panic.

I agree with this, except that didn't we also benefit from two fouls that were called on three point shots, and didn't we also make all six free throws? So that's a wash. Agree, but we're not ideally looking for a wash there. We need to be disciplined enough to come out ahead in that exchange. Can't control the mistakes of the other team, just our own. The Fielder call was awful.

Have to say, I'm surprised there isn't more positivity after that game. This program has been competitive in spots in games against better teams- but it hasn't looked like that. A high level basketball game broke out and you went toe to toe with a KenPom Top 25ish team - and an elite coach. Players didn't flinch, and neither did our coach - on the road. They came close vs TCU, came close vs Seton Hall - those games were not played at this level. That was a conference battle with two coaches who knew each other with players locked in - and that team displayed a confidence that I have not seen out of a Georgetown team in a while. The 1st half was largely fools gold with shooting, but I thought they proved something in the 2nd half. No, they can't play defense - there are deficiencies that simply are not going to get fixed until there is new personnel. But I am not surprised Cooley took the tone he did in his presser afterward - THAT was progress. 100% agree with your take, but we were due for 20 minutes where we were lights out from distance. This team has that in them.

It is getting better. I very much expect that to continue.
Tough result given how hard the fellas played. Better times are in front of us. Yes it took way too long to get here but can't go back in time six years.
Very much enjoy watching this team. And Cooley is a breath of fresh air. Finishing at the rim and inability to stop their push to the rim (especially in transition), along with some strange officiating decisions and our short bench, were the difference last night.
Now let's get a W on Tuesday.

Gminski managed to combine being a complete bore while rooting for the ACC team. Impressive combo for someone with so little to work with. G Man was brutal.

Tough crowd. Heath is suffering from serious turf toe. He’s not healthy and has lost a fair amount of his speed from last year. I’m not sure if he will get better this season but lay off the kid. He can play within himself then and not try to do too much. When it is not working attempt to play D, facilitate and rebound.

How long are we gonna have to wait to be good again, feels like it’s years away and it’s not with this roster. A long time. Silly take. NCAA hoops is now year to year if you establish some sort of stability in the program. Lets give it 2 years at this point.
