The next 3 games are really big for this season.
@xavier vs. Butler @ Providence
It will determine if we have much of a chance of finishing better than 10th. Otherwise, we are fighting not to finish tied for 10th.
Hopefully, we got some confidence from playing UConn in a tough manner.

I'd like to see a continued amount of effort, especially on the defensive end. I'd like to see more and more of a shift to running a balanced offense and more plays. And I'd like to see more than one to one and half players have a good game against Xavier.
I'd also love to see us come out hot shooting for once and take a lead, but that might be asking too much.

Xavier is not nearly as good a shooting team as Connecticut. That said, their three point shooting in conference has been pretty good (36.2%) even if not great on the year as a whole. But they shoot twos really badly (48.3% overall, 42.4% in Big East play, which is the worst in conference). They don't take a ton of threes. So, my hope is they won't destroy us down low and that it's a pretty good match for us since we aren't good defending twos.
Xavier's defense is good, though they don't force a ton of turnovers. Much like Georgetown, Xavier is much better on the offensive boards than defensive.
All in all, it's not a horrible matchup for us (with the caveat that DePaul is really the only "good" matchup for us). The stats and betting lines will say we are a pretty big underdog, but it's a winnable game--though be away is tough.

Butler taking it to X early.
EDIT: I am the jinx. As soon as I posted the above X goes on 22-2 run.

Supreme Cook continues to be what he is. That is really my number one
Close two is team offense and defense. Something that never existed last year and I’ve seen moments of this year. 40 minutes of it gives me belief we got this.

Xavier is a well coached and hard working team. I don't think they have a bunch of NBA caliber guys on that team, but they do have players that have significant skills and those guys play to their strengths and in order to compete well with them, the Hoyas will need to scout them well. They do not have a bunch of 3 point shoots, but the guys they do have need to be accounted for and can not be left open. Claude is probably their best all around player and he is aggressive getting to the rim, but not a great three point shooter. For the Hoyas to compete the staff will have to have the team prepared and be aware of who they are guarding and try to take away those players preferences.

Wow that seems really high, I'd expect that to come down to Hoyas +12.5 or so.

Another chance to get a good win, and maybe more importantly another good test for Gtown's guards/wings

From what I have seen of Xavier, they don’t have anyone spectacular or elite but they don’t have any weaknesses. Everyone they have is either good or slightly above average.
They aren’t athletically sub par at any position. They aren’t small at any position and aren’t at a skill deficit at any position. There’s no real weaknesses to exploit so they will pretty much be in every game.
They also have good depth and go 9 deep which keeps them out of any foul trouble.
I think this will be a much tougher game and matchup for us then UConn (w/o Clingan).
If Massoud gives us nothing again we will get destroyed. He either needs to wake up or get benched.

I hate Xavier FWIW. It is comical that they have dominated us since entering the league. They also own one of our worst losses in the tourney in 1990. No one in their right mind would go to X over Gtown based off of location, campus, academics, coeds, etc. Now maybe if you are into watered down cocoa based chili over pasta or I am sure the uniform arena must be pretty hype.
Let's get a W and stop the bleeding!

"College basketball fans of a certain vintage - i.e., your author - remember Georgetown as a brand in the game... Even under John Thompson III, the team was a national power, right up until the Dunk City Florida Gulf Coast team obliterated them on national TV. It has been more than a decade since that game. In that time, Georgetown has won 1 NCAA tournament game. If the next one is going to come under Ed Cooley, it doesn’t appear that it’s going to be this year. The Hoyas are 0-8 in the top two quads and are carrying a Q4 loss against Holy Cross. They have one Big East win in six tries, and that was their home game against DePaul. They played Seton Hall tough before allowing an 8-0 run late to give the game away, but they’ve been otherwise uncompetitive in conference play... Is Ed Cooley a good coach? If you love the flex offense, the answer is probably yes. The Hoays play exceptionally slowly, boasting the lowest tempo in the league. I’d be in no hurry to get a shot up in their position either; they’re last in the league with a dreadful 44.4% EFG% in conference games, and they also turn the ball over fairly frequently. They’ve been good on the offensive glass and in getting to the line, where they’re shooting a respectable 76.7% in league play. It all adds up to the #10 offense in the league, which used to be the worst you could do in the Big East, but no longer! The defense is also 10th. They force a lot of turnovers, second in the league with an 18.9% TO rate. Everything else is bad. They’re 10th in defensive EFG%, 10th in DReb%, and 8th in FT rate. They don’t chase teams off the arc or defend the paint well. Aside from forcing turnovers, they’re a complete train wreck on the defensive end. I’ll bet they thank God every night that DePaul is in the league so they’re not last in everything." www.bannersontheparkway.com/2024/1/19/24043429/xavier-v-georgetown-preview-matchups-keys-to-the-game-big-east-basketball

Id like to see a lot of Bristol on Claude tonight when we're in M2M. If you can shut down Claude you have a chance.
