Yet not at all surprising to anyone who actually has any inside knowledge of the program over the past month. The wishful thinkers on here certainly aren't helping matters - and I say that even though I'm definitely in favor of moving on from Ewing at the end of this season. But it's not happening. The plan, misguided as it is, is to bring in all new assistants.

Check please.
If I read that statement correctly, 4 days overrides 5 years.
It is simply incredible.

This is the latest letter written by a fan to the admin - before this latest news, of course:

The $3.5M experiment continues. Unbelievable! It’s up to the students and alumni to take the necessary steps. Students must demonstrate on campus.

Ah, the infamous statement of support. That and $5 can buy Ewing a fancy cappuccino at Grace Street Roasters. Deep breaths, Hoya fans...

GU should have also announced Ewing's contract extension at the same time to help with recruiting!😀

Well there it is...and for those in the same boat as myself that felt we should go a different direction with our coach...and although I know most will roll their eyes at me and for good reason...
...I think we need to embrace the fact that Ewing is the head coach for at least another year and put hope towards what I assume will at least be a change to the assistant coaches and support this team...
I say all of that with little hope suddenly Ewing becomes John Wooden...but it makes no sense now to pine over where people feel Ewing has failed but put support into the remainder of this season and into the next and pray with some changes on staff that starts to turn this program around...
I say that defeated but I don't know what else to say at this point...

Not shocked at all. Figured they would go the Scott Frost Nebraska route like I said. Hopefully I don't have another entire year of disappointment in college sports. I was against both decisions but hopefully I am wrong.

The program isn’t trying. PE is not capable of maximizing the output of any individual team. That much is obvious after 5 years. Very sad day. We’re DePaul. Congratulations to all involved.

They better...
A) Get him better assistants, one to teach these kids a defensive system they can understand (because the one they're using sure isn't working). B) Patrick better have Aminu back, because we're losing Carey (who I consider to be our best player). C) The MOST important, Patrick better land 2-3 serious impact transfers, or next season will be close to as ugly as this one --- one of those being a high-calibre C/PF type. D) Make sure Bass and Anglin don't decommit (probably the only reason I am not more disappointed with keeping Patrick on). And hopefully this helps us land Gardner in 2023, and Lamothe.
I could probably go through the whole alphabet, but I'll stop there.
I don't think this decision is the trainwreck some make it out to be, although it's a sign the administration is as tone-deaf as we thought it was (which is NOT good). But if we get Aminu back (and I don't think he's ready to play in the NBA, or even the G-League for that matter), if we get a few impact transfers (every other damn school seems to do it), and if we can land Gardner and Lamothe in 2023 (Heck, I'll take even one of them), I do think we can see some signs of life. Thankfully the new transfer rules means we're not that far off from being a decent/maybe even a pretty good team next year, but we HAVE to hit the transfer market hard --- which won't be easy to do with our putrid record this year, can we be next years Iowa State? Time for Patrick to prove us all wrong!

I am an extremely positive and easygoing fan. I have enjoyed aspects of the Ewing tenure. This season has broken me and I’ve totally stopped watching games. Why watch some random benchwarmer hit 10 3s against us for the umpteenth time, or endure a 20-0 run by the likes of DePaul?
How can they watch our team go 0-for-the-big-East and not make wholesale changes?! After the offseason exodus that we all KNOW is coming, what’s next? Are the Hoyas even going to win a game next year?
Nobody would be happier than me to see Ewing/Reed pull this off and get back to .500 in the Big East or whatever. But I have zero belief that it will happen.

Maybe they're gonna bring in Ronny, JT3 and Esh as the new assistants.

My prediction. Pat returns with massive structural changes to the program and a new coaching and operational staff that will include some familiar faces that may be at odds with the way the program is currently being run from the 4th floor of the Thompson center.

This is pathetic! I'm still holding out hope that the powers that be come to their senses. The level of apathy next year would be unprecedented.
