Deleted. Once is enough.
Sorry about that. Did not mean to double down. But what is going on is insane as well as absurd.

Despite all the extremely strange communications from both school and coach on this matter this week, something tells me he's going to "retire."
Unless other wholesale changes are made as to how the program is run however, it won't really matter.

We know that hope is not a strategy, but it is all we got right now. My heart sank a little to hear that Dennis Gates may be headed to GA. PLEASE let the AD, Admin, & PE make whatever decisions they are going to make SOON so we can begin the long journey back to a proud HOYA basketball program.

Maybe Ewing was hoping that they would win a game - so he could announce his "retirement" after having avoided a winless conference season?
I'm really clutching at straws here, the situation has become so desperate.

The 42-year-old Gates was a hot commodity heading into last year’s carousel, and he’ll be that much hotter with his Vikings atop the Horizon League standings. Gates is only in his third season as a head coach, but he was named the league’s coach of the year in his first two, and last year he led Cleveland State to the third NCAA Tournament in its history and its first in 12 years. Gates’ case also is bolstered by his extensive experience at the high-major level during previous stints as an assistant at Cal, Marquette, and most extensively at Florida State. There is zero doubt that he is ready for a Power 6 job.

I hate to break your heart., But the idea that if Patrick Ewing is going to retire, we’re gonna run out and hire a mid major coach with no connection to the program seems to be a far fetched proposition for a program that’s run the way Georgetown is.

Wishful thinking, perhaps, but maybe the last two Ewing supporters, who may be the same person, are actually connected to the program and know Ewing’s days are numbered.

The AD better have his top choices ready to call, if he has not already called.

This is exactly what I figured to be the case. Who else would it be? And, herein lies the problem. If Patrick Ewing is allowing Ronny to reshuffle the staff (or if the university is telling him to do this), why would we expect anything to improve? Ronny Thompson is simply not qualified to be doing this, and if Patrick Ewing is farming this out to Ronny, then Patrick Ewing is not qualified to do it either. Obviously, I am not advocating JT3 coming back (though it'd be miles better than Ronny), but if you were going to pick a Thompson to essentially serve as the General Manager of the program, it would be JT3, not Ronny. How can the admin. possibly give Ronny ANY significant input in a coaching search? If so, they are truly hopeless and we should abandon ship. I don't say this lightly, but this is just an incompetent way to run a program. The program is being led by a coach who has shown little success outside the Big East Tournament, who has not made any changes to his staff over the last 5 years despite significant struggles. The program cannot retain its players. And now, Lee Reed says the program is going to evaluate every aspect of the program to put us back on the path of success, and it seems like the one thing we are doing is letting the current Chief of Staff (whose role has been shrouded in secrecy) who is at least partially responsible for the current state of affairs, make decisions or be involved in charting the path forward? While I think there cannot be a Ewing-led scenario where things turn around (and there is literally no precedent in the history of sports for such an approach working), if you were going to try, the way in which the university is going about it is all wrong and destined for failure. In my view, the best case realistic scenario IF Ewing stays is that there are minor changes, we see a lot of roster turnover, maybe a minor improvement like 5-15 (500% improvement!), and another horrible hopeless season where the fan engagement is an all time low. And, we are basically in exactly the same position we are in now in March 2023, except that there will likely be fewer of us around as fan apathy grows even further. As for Patrick Ewing, I don't blame him for wanting to come back. There's no way to sugar coat it - this season has been a huge embarrassment, and I am sure he would much prefer to go out in a better scenario (hard to get worse than this year unless we go 0-20 next year). If I were Ewing, I would not want to walk away either. But, that's why the decision-makers usually make the tough calls in this scenario. No coach wants to be fired, but sometimes that's what is necessary.

I do love the loyalty from Big O Who does Omer think he is kidding?? Why does he have to be kidding someone? Unlike everyone on this board, he knows Coach Ewing and has played for him. He is entitled to form his own opinions.

There is info. on Hilltop Hoops that the extension GU gave to Patrick a year ago was a three-year extension - three years beyond his existing contract, which, if correct, means he has four years left.

If I was Lee Reed, and what we think about his lack of a real role and voice within the program is true, then I would go rogue and say something like:
I disagree with all of this and was basically forced to give a vote of confidence for Ewing because of the cowardice and stupidity of the higher powers. I want to be more involved and help, but it is a closed system that would rather shut out its AD than let anyone "outside the family" help.
I wouldn't care if that got me fired because who wants to work at such a incompetent and toxic workplace and anyone can see that most of the other sports at Gtown are succeeding at high level except the massive budget consumer that is basketball which he can't touch.
