Take it with an ocean full of salt, Feinstein probably has torched bridges with anyone who has any sort of place in the program.

Program seems to be okay with that re: Pitino. Because Broadus’ tenure at Binghamton would make Rick blush. Broadus did not forfeit a national title. That would seem pretty high up on the “dirty” scale. Like at the top.

If one combines this with Reed’s commitment statement, I don’t see a loophole for “stepping down.” Perhaps that’s naïveté, but, when both parties speak, the picture seems clear. Things are spinning out of Patrick's, Ronny's and Falk's control... lol

This is exactly what I figured to be the case. Who else would it be? And, herein lies the problem. If Patrick Ewing is allowing Ronny to reshuffle the staff (or if the university is telling him to do this), why would we expect anything to improve? Ronny Thompson is simply not qualified to be doing this, and if Patrick Ewing is farming this out to Ronny, then Patrick Ewing is not qualified to do it either. Obviously, I am not advocating JT3 coming back (though it'd be miles better than Ronny), but if you were going to pick a Thompson to essentially serve as the General Manager of the program, it would be JT3, not Ronny. I don't say this lightly, but this is just an incompetent way to run a program. The program is being led by a coach who has shown little success outside the Big East Tournament, who has not made any changes to his staff over the last 5 years despite significant struggles. The program cannot retain its players. And now, Lee Reed says the program is going to evaluate every aspect of the program to put us back on the path of success, and it seems like the one thing we are doing is letting the current Chief of Staff (whose role has been shrouded in secrecy) who is at least partially responsible for the current state of affairs, make decisions or be involved in charting the path forward? While I think there cannot be a Ewing-led scenario where things turn around (and there is literally no precedent in the history of sports for such an approach working), if you were going to try, the way in which the university is going about it is all wrong and destined for failure. In my view, the best case realistic scenario IF Ewing stays is that there are minor changes, we see a lot of roster turnover, maybe a minor improvement like 5-15 (500% improvement!), and another horrible hopeless season where the fan engagement is an all time low. And, we are basically in exactly the same position we are in now in March 2023, except that there will likely be fewer of us around as fan apathy grows even further. As for Patrick Ewing, I don't blame him for wanting to come back. There's no way to sugar coat it - this season has been a huge embarrassment, and I am sure he would much prefer to go out in a better scenario (hard to get worse than this year unless we go 0-20 next year). If I were Ewing, I would not want to walk away either. But, that's why the decision-makers usually make the tough calls in this scenario. No coach wants to be fired, but sometimes that's what is necessary.

Crack dealing, shoplifting, academic fraud, beating kids into comas, stolen debit cards. Yeah, just your run of the mill stuff.
He didn’t forfeit a national title, he just wiped out the next decade of basketball there and nearly had them kicked out of a conference.
I was a proponent of bringing him back in 2011 fwiw. But I don’t want to hear anyone say we can’t stoop to Pitino if they stand by and watch him possibly re-hired.

That would seem pretty high up on the “dirty” scale. Like at the top. Broadus was hit with NCAA recruiting violations for his recruiting with a particularly shady prep school as I recall. He had one player kicked out of school for selling crack cocaine. 5 others kicked out for other reasons. School administrators accused him of harassment and bullying to get grades changed AFTER he already had pushed the school to lower their admission standards for the team. I'm not here to defend Pitino - but making out Broadus' "dirty" tactics not on par with Pitino is not accurate in my opinion.

This entire situation is an indictment of the university president who is squandering the university's funds on a sinecure for Thompson family members and cronies while embarrassing anyone else invested in the school's athletic brand and success on the court. A reality that is not lost upon any alumni observing this dumpster fire. I truly hope they know what they're doing because it really doesn't look like it.

Still, players leaving for suspicious reasons also has a familiar ring to it. I suppose if I mention the whole tawdry escort thing, we’ll be reminded about the Gold Club again. Let’s call it a tie. I didn’t intend to start a “dirty-off.”

I’m not saying I would want Pitino. But I’m not saying I wouldn’t. I’d be sick about it right up to the point where we start winning again lmao.
I’d be willing to bet he’d have us back in the tournament by year 2. Year 3 at the latest.

The Ewing tweet is very strange. The Lee Reed statement basically says “Ewing will be back.” The Ewing tweets that we’ll hear about whether he will be back either from Ewing or from GU. Why say that when GU has already said you’ll be back? I’m not optimistic enough to buy into the idea that this is all a setup for a parting of ways, but I’m closer to believing that now than I was 24 hours ago.
Unrelated(?): Cooley isn’t leaving PC.

Typical Gtown move again.. Two days ago in the post game presser when asked about his status he stated he wasn't going to talk about it, that he was only focused on the next game & the BET.. Now he's talking about it via his little used twitter account.. Smh...

I’d be willing to bet he’d have us back in the tournament by year 2. Year 3 at the latest. Depends on what kind of change you want. Quick fix to win more games than this year? Sure. Back in the tournament by year 2 or 3 -- a decent chance. It's just that we are at a point right now where we can cast our lot for a true rebulld of the program and set it on the road to greater and sustained success in a way that makes us proud. I liked Pitino at almost all of the coaching stints he had until he went corrupt and got lost. Coaching - wise, he is a proven leader on the court and brings an energy and confidence that he is able to instill in his players. After what our team has been through, I wish for that kind of boost for them. However, I don't want to be that school that looks desperate and, in order to win, turns to someone who clearly has a past that is at serious odds with the very principles the school purports to cherish. Also, as I said elsewhere on this thread, Pitino turns 70 in September and it worries me what will become of the program in 3-5 years and what we sacrificed in character and moral standing by looking only at the short term. I know a lot of people who aren't necessarily hoops fans but respect Georgetown for all of the reasons that you would expect (great university, Jesuit tradition, etc.), and I know that they would really look down on a hiring like this. I want to win, I want the players to get more for their hard work and persistence, and I want to believe in Hoya basketball again, both on and off the court. Hiring Pitino would be a mistake and have negative effects beyond the sports world that I don't think represent us well.

I don’t want Pitino, but I actually think that the fact that he’d probably retire in a few years wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. There’s no way Pitino would agree to work under the aegis of Ronny and any other holdovers. He’d come in, get us back to winning, and that momentum combined with the removal of the Thompson shadow would probably make the job even more attractive when we do the next search.
He’s not my choice. But the short horizon built into any Pitino tenure would be a plus, in my view.

Pitino would make us instant contenders. The guy is probably among the best 4 or 5 coaching minds over the last 30 years.
But he is not coming here. He doesn’t want to and we don’t want him.
If we are lucky enough to move off Ewing, I’d expect the move to be an Amaker like move at this point. There is no way they are letting a guy come in here and turn things upside down.

I’d take Pitino in a second. He’s a winner, (at least at the college level) and isn’t that what this is all about? If it’s not then keep Pat until he wants to retire. And save me from the winning the right way statements. Every major college hoops program has skeletons in some way, shape, or form and you’re a fool if you think otherwise.

Well, first of all, it's not just these 2 options, Pitino or Ewing. But I -- and others -- see athletics as extensions of the kind of people and school we are, like it or not. They can't be separated. I suspect that that is why JT2 remains such an icon -- he stood for something we also embraced and took it to the highest level, made us proud. I've also lived long enough to also be cynical about collegiate sports and the money and corruption that exists. Is it inevitable? I like to think that they are not, but at the very least I'm not going to simply shrug, say "well, everyone else is cheating, be real", and jump in. I guess that makes me a fool, but we make choices and we live with them. I say be clear on who we are and want to be and surround ourrselves with people that will help us become our better selves. That will make some people gag and scoff, but there it is.
