Coach Ewing has mentioned multiple times that Coach Thompson had been working on his memoir for the last couple of years in the retired legends own office in the building/center named after him. If it's anything like how Coach Thompson handles himself in interviews during his great career, I absolutely look forward to purchasing and reading this one....

Lots of skeletons - wonder if he will resurrect some - would make for very very interesting reading.

If he is candid and unguarded this will be one hell of a read.

Edmunds getting out of prison today. Looks like we've come full circle on Thompson's alleged racism. Thompson was accused of racism in the false allegation that he failed to recruit Ferry back in 1985. One oft-repeated Thompson recruiting tale involves DeMatha's Danny Ferry, the 1985 National High School Player of the Year and eventual Duke All-American. According to the rumor, Ferry was interested in Georgetown but never heard a whisper from the Hoyas staff. "That's definitely not true," said recently retired DeMatha coach Morgan Wootten last week. "I distinctly remember Coach Thompson telling Bob Ferry that he wanted to be sure Danny knew how interested he was in the possibility of him coming to Georgetown. Danny just decided very early in the recruiting process that he wanted to go away to school." www.washingtontimes.com/news/2002/dec/24/20021224-111036-5651r/As the Wizards continued their search for a new president of basketball operations this week, former Georgetown coach John Thompson Jr. defended Danny Ferry, one of three remaining candidates to replace Ernie Grunfeld, against those who have stigmatized the former DeMatha and Duke star for an incident that happened five years ago. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/05/22/john-thompson-says-wizards-gm-candidate-danny-ferry-is-absolutely-not-racist/?utm_term=.9fa1c8cf1def

It's a bit of a double-edged sword. I'd bet that the majority of us here deliberately chose to not be closer to home for college.

Probably one of Villanova's selling points to their many DMV players. Get out of town and be on your own while still being close enough to get home for a weekend or have your parents come up to a game.

True; we should sell the same thing to Baltimore and Philly kids, among others.

Boswell's Q & A this week and his discussion of Danny Ferry/John Thompson: Q: Wiz I know they want to get it right. But seriously, how long does it take to hire a GM? A: Thomas Boswell They've done without one for 16 years. What's the rush? My input: I loved that John Thompson --Big John--stood up for Danny Ferry last week. “I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of what I’m hearing people refer to Danny Ferry as if he’s a racist,” Thompson told The Team 980′s Rick “Doc” Walker during an interview Tuesday. “That is the biggest bunch of bullcrap — and if we weren’t on the air, I would say bull-s — that I have ever heard... “I’ve been around him and I know” he’s not a racist, Thompson said of Ferry. “I’m sick of these people, that when somebody says something, it’s interpreted conveniently for people who dislike him to start labeling him. There’s enough sick racists on the planet than to call this boy a racist, and he absolutely is not. Anybody who knows me knows I am racially conscientious, and if I thought he was , I would say that, but that is the meanest thing that I have heard.”
If you want to read it all:
www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/05/22/john-thompson-says-wizards-gm-candidate-danny-ferry-is-absolutely-not-racist/?utm_term=.fb258d0af710John's one of my Top Five people I've ever covered --which I did for >10 years, both GU beat and later in features and columns. Probably laughed more with him than anybody I ever covered. Probably, in part, because I covered him all the way back to high school coaching at St. Anthony's. Seemed like we knew a lot of the same DC people.
(I think I got off on the wrong foot with JTIII when I mentioned that he probably didn't remember our first meeting --when he was six and sitting on his dad's knee in the living room of Father Raymond Kemp, on the D.C. City Council, as we talked about local social-justice issues. Sometimes, the best idea is just to shut up.) Big John may be No. 1 in the category --Famous People That The Public Just Can't Get Their Minds Around Correctly. I have no views on Ferry as a GM candidate. That's for NBA front-office experts. And Big John knows him 100 times better than I do --so I figure John's probably got him pegged right on that old controversy. — MAY 28, 2019 12:37 PM

Does anyone else find humor in the quote “then he chose me to write His Autobiography”?

Does anyone else find humor in the quote “then he chose me to write His Autobiography”? Some of the best autobiographies I know of were written either with or by a collaborator. The Autobiography of Malcolm X, for an example, was written by Alex Haley.

Let's not forget Charles Barkley claiming he was mis-quoted in his autobiography.
