It will be a long week after that one, but I think we are all excited to see the Hoyas play with the intensity and desire we saw at MSG.
Happy Thanksgiving Week everyone.

We will have ups and downs, but I just hope our floor was raised this week.

I think pretty simple - if the team from NYC is the new normal - I think we win big.
If the team from the first few games .... will be too close for comfort.

If anyone sleeps on this UNCG team, you are absolutely insane. This team can defend very well and are not afraid of anyone. They are an incredibly talented team and Wes Miller is an excellent coach. They have good guards in Isaiah Miller and Kaleb Hunter and James Dickey is a solid big man. They played Kansas very close and lost to Montana State on a half-court shot. This will be very close and the team will have to play very well. Against D1 teams, UNCG averages 52.4 ppg allowed. They are legit. Now, they don't have a great schedule aside from Kansas, but they will defend the entire time. Not an easy game. Nowhere near an easy game. This will be very close and UNCG is absolutely not a team you can sleep on. UNCG will win this game if the team from the first four games shows up.

If we come out flat again...we go from riding a high after this weekend to a team that’s 4-3 with more questions than answers.

All the team we are playing are good now or were Cinderella’s who have made noise In previous NCAA tournaments like GA state and UNC Greensboro

What's their record..they were really good last year (deep NIT run?)..did they lose anybody? They were the first team out of the NCAA tournament last year. They are 5-2 (4-2 to D1) and lost to Kansas and Montana State (on a buzzer beater from half court). They lost guards Francis Alonso and Demetrius Troy, but Isaiah Miller, Kaleb Hunter and two freshmen have combined to fill their shoes. Their defense is just as good, if not better, though Alonso was their best scorer. They are a team that doesn't shoot it very well from deep, which should play into the Hoyas' favor.

Thanks for the input...sounds like they will be a test...the only way for us to get better is for us to be challenged, and to and to be prepared for and to meet that challenge...

It will be a challenge for us but I hope Pat will get them ready. Time for a breakout from some of our players

I imagine the players get a very short break for Thanksgiving. Anyone know when they are away?

UNC-G is good. We need to hammer them inside and draw fouls. Miller is the real deal and will be the most athletic player on the court not named Josh LeBlanc.

I am worried about this game. We need to come to play from the start.

Sounds like a decent match-up for the Hoyas. A defensive-minded team that has limited shooting, plays to our strengths. You would expect strength against strength, the Big East team should prevail.
However, I never want to get ahead of myself with these games because Ewing is likely viewing this game as another chance to be the mad scientist that tests out crazy line-ups using hockey-like substitution patterns while going 11 deep each at 10+ minutes. My fear is the Hoyas get stuck in a deficit similar to Ga State but are not able to dig out of it against a better opponent like UNCG.
Personally for me, this is what makes this part of the season not enjoyable with Ewing. If coach just plays a tight 8-9 man rotation like he does against name brand opponents, we win going away, but he won't.

Unfortunately it seems that Ewing will shorten his rotation only against quality opponents such as Texas, Duke, etc during the noncon schedule. I expect him to keep the rotation short again Syracuse and OK State as they will be the most challenging teams left before BE starts. He should have done so against PSU however I guess it was still early in the season. I'm still shocked about how poorly we played and coached that game. Ewing needs to realize that UNCG and SMU wont be walks in the park as they are both top 100 teams. This isn't the time to tinker anymore, he made a tougher schedule so he needs to adjust to that as a coach. We need to keep it to 9 players and stretch it to 10 if there is foul trouble. The bench players that get minutes should be Jagan, Galen, Wahab and one of Allen/Blair/Gardner (depending on match up and who is hot). Leblanc needs to start or come in within the first couple minutes of both halves. I won't be satisfied until that is happening consistently. That being said, I have hope that Ewing will get it done.

I've been quick to criticize the rotations this year, but I'm not sure how you got there that he will only shorten against "quality" opponents as defined as Duke and Texas. There were signs in the Georgia St. game that the rotation was shortened in the 2nd half, and that carried through to Texas and Duke. If we see the all bench lineup against UNC Greensboro in the 1st half we'll have every right to complain. Will give Ewing the benefit of the doubt for now that he learned who can play in those first 3.5 games and is applying it to the squad going forward.

So you apparently missed 11 players playing against Duke. Patrick appears that he will dial in to whatever skill set he needs.

We were in foul trouble and he decided to bench Pickett so he had to extend the bench, but before the refs decided to become center stage, the rotation was limited to 9 players.

Sorry I meant that he tends to shorten the bench against more difficult opponents at least that's what I've noticed during his first few years as our head coach. Nothing is absolute. Obviously if there is foul trouble or if he decides to sit someone for poor play (which he does often), he has to extend the rotation.
