With the storm rolling in Wednesday I hope that they reschedule the game. Typically, if a team can fly in (day before) and the refs can make it - then they play the game. With 5 to 8 inches expected Wednesday that would make for a nearly empty arena im guessing. Reschedule? Why? Villanova most likely takes the train or buses into DC from Philly. Plus, I want a reprise of one of the more memorable games of the JTIII era - in nearly 2 feet of snow. It was a great game, with great atmosphere and well attended with more than 10,000 attending. I planned ahead and got a hotel room the night before and was stuck in DC for 2 more days after the game! Give the students a snow day and send 'em to Cap One Arena! Good times!! www.casualhoya.com/2010/2/6/1298569/blizzard-game-georgetown-bombardsThe game also said a lot about Georgetown’s home-court advantage. With Washington practically buried under snow, the Verizon Center was not filled with roughly 20,000 fans, as it had been the previous Saturday when a crowd that included President Obama watched the Hoyas throttle Duke. But Thompson and his players said the more than 10,000 fans who did brave the snow gave the team quite a lift. www.nytimes.com/2010/02/07/sports/ncaabasketball/07hoyas.html

Virtually no Nova fans in the house because they were unable to travel for the game. I remember walking a couple of miles to get to the game, but it was still more than worth it. Plus with how the officiating has gone the last 3-4 games, I don't really care if they're able to show up.

But I also think getting 10,000 to a Georgetown game in those days was also the function of the success that JTIII and the team had to that point. In any event there is zero reason to reschedule this game. It's not even going to be that much snow (2-5 inches per WaPo and mostly during the morning rush hour).

The atmosphere was amazing and everyone that made it was pumped up from the travels. That game is one of the reasons that I think a full lower bowl with people that are excited to be there is better then a half filled full arena.

And there is still no reason for rescheduling this game. I am driving in from Delaware a day early to ensure I make it to the game.

You answered your own question. 10k on a Saturday the week after beating Duke. Now imagine 4k on a wintry Wednesday night when they had 13k tickets sold. A run of 2"-5" inches of snow doesn't even compare to 2010 (17" at National Airport, 25" at BWI, 32" at Dulles) but Wednesday's weather may involve a liberal leave policy at many DC businesses, so those likely to stay after work to attend the game will be back at home. Attending the Butler game, arguably the biggest Saturday game of the season, illustrated how the student attendance has dropped over the last 5-6 years. Only one side of the court was open for students (about 2/3 filled) while the other side was mostly tarped off. Maybe both sides will fill Wednesday, likely not. FS1 noted that Sunday's game with St. John's and Villanova was the first Big East sellout at the Garden for the Redmen since 2012. Georgetown's last sellout at Capital One/Verizon was in 2013.

I hope you're right. A dead building would be brutal for Wednesdays game. Counterpoint: the atmosphere at Cap One/Verizon hasn't made a positive difference since maybe 2015 if we're being extremely generous, so we wouldn't be missing out on anything. The 2010 game was all kinds of fun, I'll give it that. We drove from one end of Arlington to another in snowdrift anarchy and parked at the Ballston Mall to get a functional Metro line (everything above ground was shut down), and walked the however many blocks from Metro Center down the center of the unplowed streets. I might put it my personal top ten of games I've attended, and I'm getting close to two decades at this. Besides weeknight vs. weekend and all that (not unimportant), the big difference is Nova-GU in 2010 was the second Top Ten matchup at home in consecutive weekends (I seem to remember it snowing a bunch during the Duke weekend too). I'm not sure we've come close to a game of that importance since the Big East realignment, and I don't know how many "important" games period we've had in the past nearly four seasons--probably depends on how you view the post-Big East Syracuse rivalry or the novelty of seeing Maryland. Part of the program rebirth we're all hoping for is to get back to having games that matter, for students and alums to actually care about and ponder going outside in freezing rain or whatever form of precipitation is happening around 6:30 Wednesday night.

Not disputing what you’re saying because it’s all generally correct. But a couple points to keep in mind: 1. It has been 23 months since the second side was open to students. Over the past two seasons that other side has been where people with promotional tickets sit. 2. Student attendance has definitely improved since last season, when they rarely filled the first section next to the pep band. Student attendance has also improved from the season before, when both sides were students but only a couple rows on each sides would be occupied. 3. Keep in mind that from at least 2001 to around 2005 they only used one side for students, and in 03-04 we were lucky to have 30 students at a game. But to your comments about the snow, maybe if there’s a liberal leave people will actually show up to the game on time (ok maybe I won’t hold my breath on the one).

It should be a lot of fun but your timing on catching Nova after that loss to St. John's means Nova will be ready. Thinking of terrible games in the past some real horror shows at Georgetown, 1996 at Landover comes to mind with then President Bill Clinton in attendance and a 106-68 Georgetown win (Iverson, Kittles). Another heartbreaker was in 2008 when I got my new TV at the time broken in and was treated to 55-53 loss to Georgetown. I am hoping for something similar like last years game (I know wishful thinking), Georgetown is definitely improved and will only get better. Destroya the Hoya (Had to end it on a positive Nova note) Wednesday should be fun.

I'll be transparent and admit I do not understand why attendance is as poor as it is. It's more than wins and losses. Georgetown plays in the most centrally located arena outside of MSG, with three Metrorail lines below it and two more two blocks away. No one has to take a school bus to the game and get lost somewhere on South Capitol Street. Tickets can be had for as little as $5.00 nearly every night. And with six million people in the metropolitan area, can Georgetown can do no better than trailing every Big East school but DePaul in attendance? It starts with the students. Georgetown students aren't solving the problems of global sustainability and social inequality every weekend. A fair number of them want to just have some fun. The collective "we" need to give students a better experience at these games so they will come back as alumni, as parents, as donors. And for all those students who showed up at that 2010 game, not one looks back nine years later and says, "I wish the library was open that day." This year, Nova has lost 6 games and 2 of those have been after a loss. Lost to Furman after Michigan and Kansas after Penn. Plus, Georgetown has lost 2 straight so to say that Nova is guaranteed a win after losing isn't inherently true. I still think they win, but there's a chance. Georgetown should be playing with that must win mentality too as they did at St. John's. Georgetown needs this much more, so there's a chance that they come out and show that in their play. Control the tempo and get Nova out of their game and this is ours. Georgetown has also followed up back to back losses with good performances recently like the aforementioned St. John's game and the first Providence game.

I have a couple of friends coming in for the game and helped them figure out a way to get tickets. Not much available in 100s and 200s. Secondary market did not have much either. I hope that translates to a full bowl but attendance by season ticket holders has not been good. We talk about students a lot but lots of seats go unused during season.

For what it's worth, KenPom puts us at 33% to win. While I think the St. John's loss means Villanova will come mentally ready to play, and they are clearly the better team, we certainly have a chance. And, if it does snow and the arena is empty, who knows which way that will cut. Here's hoping for some good fortune...
