I don't disagree that we're probably going to get an angrier, more focused Nova team due to their loss over the weekend, but shouldn't Nova be getting an angrier, more focused Georgetown team that will have been stewing for a week (10 days if you include Butler) over their worst effort of the season?
THAT is what my expectation is as a fan: not necessarily a win, but putting forth an effort that at least tells me that the guys haven't given up on the postseason and that these games still are important enough to put in the preparation and concentration required to be competitive. To me, this is a pride game. I'm hoping our guys show that they still have it and get off the mat.

Here is what I want:
- A win (best outcome) OR
- A loss where we play well in all facets of the game and scrub away the stain that was that incredibly poor Seton Hall effort.
Here is what I don’t want:
- Another Seton Hall clunker or even worse performance OR
- A really close game where we make some bonheaded decisions in the final 2-3 minutes and suffer another excruciating loss in a game we should have won. Those can’t happen anymore when it’s late February.

The snowstorm in ‘10 was EPIC and predicted several days in advance as the Snowpocalypse or for Hoya fans (of Nate Lubbick especially) “Thundersnow”. It also had snowed about 6” the game before against Duke on a Saturday and was a little of an inconvenience but not much — about what we can expect tomorrow. I rented a 4 wheel drive Ford 150 two days before the Villanova game to be sure I could get there from about 8 miles away in Alexandria — and succeeded (lotsa parking in the Verizon Center that day believe me). Where there’s a will there’s a way... A pal’s son, then a student on the Hilltop (son of HoyaChris actually) metro’d from Rosslyn station to the game — with a hoard of other students, and shared the train with none other than Scottie Reynolds and another Villanova teammate. Surrounded by Hoyas, the players tried to make themselves as inconspicuous as possible (wearing their warm ups probably a bad idea), but good natured razzing ensued... The City is gearing up for the snow tomorrow already, and while there will be some of the typical Chicken Little overreactions, there is ZERO chance the league will or should reschedule the game...

Technically thundersnow was a different storm a year later on January 26, 2011 for a game vs. St. John's.

That villanova game in 2010 inspired me to join this forum! I listened to the game on the radio in my car since the snowstorm left us without electricity. I've always been an avid reader but I couldn't resist rejoicing with all of you after that win. Still one of the most impressive/memorable wins at home we have had except for the Duke wins (especially the first one when they were #1) and the Syracuse game in Otto's last season where we whooped their butts. There are plenty of others but that Villanova game was special. Let's do it again!

Not disputing what you’re saying because it’s all generally correct. But a couple points to keep in mind: 1. It has been 23 months since the second side was open to students. Over the past two seasons that other side has been where people with promotional tickets sit. 2. Student attendance has definitely improved since last season, when they rarely filled the first section next to the pep band. Student attendance has also improved from the season before, when both sides were students but only a couple rows on each sides would be occupied. 3. Keep in mind that from at least 2001 to around 2005 they only used one side for students, and in 03-04 we were lucky to have 30 students at a game. But to your comments about the snow, maybe if there’s a liberal leave people will actually show up to the game on time (ok maybe I won’t hold my breath on the one). I'll be transparent and admit I do not understand why attendance is as poor as it is. It's more than wins and losses. Georgetown plays in the most centrally located arena outside of MSG, with three Metrorail lines below it and two more two blocks away. No one has to take a school bus to the game and get lost somewhere on South Capitol Street. Tickets can be had for as little as $5.00 nearly every night. And with six million people in the metropolitan area, can Georgetown can do no better than trailing every Big East school but DePaul in attendance? It starts with the students. Georgetown students aren't solving the problems of global sustainability and social inequality every weekend. A fair number of them want to just have some fun. The collective "we" need to give students a better experience at these games so they will come back as alumni, as parents, as donors. And for all those students who showed up at that 2010 game, not one looks back nine years later and says, "I wish the library was open that day." "Let It Snow: Villanova at Georgetown, 2010" www.hoyasaxa.com/sports/bball.htmIn terms of overall attendance, I agree that there should be ways to increase attendance based on the location of the venue and the current price of tickets. But in terms of student attendance, the metro accessibility of the stadium means very little since Georgetown isn't metro accessible. If you had been to a game this season, you would have noticed that a large percentage of students arrive and depart from the games by school buses provided by the University. Students rush out of the stadium and the end of the games to try to catch one of the buses so they don't have to Metro/GUTSbus or Uber/Lyft back to campus. Adding more buses, or providing Metro/Uber/Lyft vouchers could help with student attendance. Also free tickets for students could certainly help student attendance. But to your other statement, I still think a lot of it is "wins and losses". As I mentioned in my last post, student attendance was horrible in 03-04. It got a little better in 04-05 with the new coach, and then exploded after 05-06 with the Duke home win and the NCAA selection/sweet 16 run. I'm pretty sure the university, alumni, parents, and donors didn't drive that student support that lasted until around 2015. The Ewing hire helped to increase student attendance last year and this year, and the Providence double OT win helped to build some excitement. Now if the Hoyas can pull off some signature wins, especially at home, that will go even further to drive student interest.

Not rocket science. Nova takes 50% of its shots from 3. Gotta defend the 3. St John's got the message in the second half. I really think Nova is very beatable if you can do that. Sadly, I don't think we can.

Samuels really crowded Govan last meeting and frustrated him during his limited minutes. Would like to see Govan's minutes managed a little to prevent a long stretch with him on the court. When he's tired, he doesn't even attempt to defend a ball screen and that can't happen tomorrow. We actually did a nice job defending the 3 pt line in the first game (albeit without Jessie most of the game), but we have to rebound and keep them off the foul line. For all of the talk about their 3 point shooting, they are actually one of the best shooting teams from inside the arc as well. Offensively both Mac and Jessie were no show's in Philly. Obviously need them both to play well to have a chance here.

I suppose the two bolded comments are not quite mutually exclusive, but really, how do we back off minutes for the guy we most need to step up his game during this final push?

I really meant a long 8 or 9 minute stretch for him especially when we are getting up and down. Seems to me his defense really struggles when he’s out there that long. I’m not wanting his minutes to go down just think they could be managed better. In Ewing’s defense, it does seem when he tries to use the TV timeout for extended rest, the game goes without a stop.

Its about 24 hours to tip-off and very low activity on this board. These last two games have killed our momentum and buzz, especially Seton Hall. Really need this one.

Gotta agree. 13,000 at the Butler game. A win there and even a loss at SHU we would be much more energized. That Butler loss really hurt.

Looking online at Ticketmaster, the only seats available are some in the corners and in the 400s. It looks like a pretty large crowd presale. The "buy discounted tickets now" automated text from GUHOYAS was only offering center court 400s which is a first this year. FWIW the University sent out an email this afternoon warning about lines to get into the stadium tomorrow. They sent the same email before the Butler game so they are likely expecting a similar size crowd at the game.

I’ve got three words for you:
WIN, BABY! WIN.
We get a win tomorrow, and our season flips from a state of borderline despair to... a HOYA state of mind.

Game Day Bitches! Eat some bananas, shovel yourself out and open a can of Meanery all over these smug cats. Time for G-fense to kick in, shut down Booth and break Gillespie’s frail heart. Or his jaw, I don’t care, as long as he isn’t raining threes.
