I will be there and I’m bringing some defense with me.

You better bring a bus full of defense.

You better bring a bus full of defense. Hope that's enough. Hope for some very good practices and hope for a good game. Need something to get me on that delusion train again. Not expecting it. I'm very down on this team now. Had a terrible last few games. Need a bounce bak desperately.

Putting in the effort that's required to win a game like this won't even guarantee a win, but that's the first step towards having a chance.

Time to sit Akinjo for Villanova and send a message. He is 2 for 23 in his last three games.
Might be time to give McClung's ankle a rest as well. Ewing will need it down the stretch.

He's taking good shots just missing. You don't bench a player, especially a freshman, for that. No one has played well the last two games, so a weird player to single out.

Um - isn't this already the stretch? 3 weeks left in the regular season. Unless you are thinking about saving them for a 4-game BET run.

Akinjo has done a lot of other really positive things despite his finishing around the basket woes. Again, awful awful awful precedence for benching any player, lot alone a freshman, for missing good shots. You bench a player or lack of effort, having a bad attitude, disobeying the coach. You don't bench if player for executing poorly in one aspect of the game.

I don't think you can necessarily sit James given how little a guy like Blair gave us tonight (amazing how the 2nd unit was able to tread water despite him), but I'd also disagree that the shots he's taking are good. From an efficiency standpoint the 18 foot 2 is the worst shot in basketball, yet he continues to take them with regularity. Stay outside the arc or look to distribute.

Blair had a rough day w extended minutes. Thought Jagan and Kaleb were best on floor tonight, although was nice to see Greg get going a bit..3 times finishing at the rim

It is not too surprising that a team which depends so much on three freshman and a low-motor senior threw up a stinker in a mid February road game against a decent team. Disappointing, yes. But surprising - not really. Unfortunately, this looks like a team that has hit the wall. You could tell in both his radio show this week and the post game press conference tonight that Ewing is frustrated with the effort level/intensity in the last two games. He called out Govan (appropriately, in my view) in his radio show, and he called out the starters in his post game comments tonight. I think Ewing is pretty much incapable of being less than honest. It is a refreshing quality compared to the bland platitudes we usually got from JTIII. But we'll have to see if Ewing's more honest, unvarnished approach in sharing his thoughts on team effort/performance publicly is any more effective.
Next year should tell the story on Ewing's coaching tenure. If we continue to play this kind of weak defense with better defensive centers and more experience, it will be hard to have much faith in his ability to teach a team to play decent, consistent defense. But it is hard to remember sometimes that these are young guys - especially our team this year. To expect a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds to play with consistent focus and intensity is asking a lot. Despite the mess tonight, there is still plenty of reason to be optimistic about the future. But there is also plenty of reason to be skeptical.

Not starting akinjo is fine. But we can’t bench him. We need 25+ mins from him every game.

Yeah. I have a feeling we are going to win this one, too. Sadly, it means way less than it did a week ago because of the 2 stinkers.

Yeah. I have a feeling we are going to win this one, too. Sadly, it means way less than it did a week ago because of the 2 stinkers. Nova has not played great for the last few games and have allowed teams to hang around with them into the second half. They find a way to win because Pascal and Booth find a way to come up big when the game is on the line and the rest of their role players understand what is required of them to help the team win, and do not try to do too much. The Hoyas can beat Nova, but it will require their first full 40 minute effort of smart, tough basketball of the season. They can't go through a 5 -8 minute stretch of turnovers and forced shots that allows another team to separate from them. Playing well for 30-35 minutes is not good enough against quality teams. Let's hope they can come up with that effort. Hopefully the team learned from last nights game the level of intensity they need to start the game with, and can maintain that level for a full 40 minutes.

Seton Hall and previous teams are basically running guys up in McClung's face when he touches the ball on the perimeter to stifle him out there and keep any drives from even getting started. I think their mindset is that he'll hang on to the ball too long after the double team and jack up a forced three, which is the pattern. Have to create ways to get him the ball en route to the basket like a slasher instead of just handing it to him on the perimeter, his game is driving but it's too hard to go from the three pt line to the hoop. All his hops and explosiveness are useless hanging out in three point land. Run him backdoor and for alley oops like Duke did w Grant Hill. Maybe actually let Mac run the point a while also, he's good at distributing. Akinjo has the ball in his hands too long and is just taking too long to get things started, slows down the ball movement, you can see the whole pace of the team and the ball sharing and player movement go down when he comes in. I hope he can learn to swing it more and play off the ball better, preferably by next week.
