Disappointing. Clearly, it is not because of future playing time.
Best of luck to him.

I would think this is the last shoe to drop?
I guess we will know for sure after the semester ends. I will say everyone that I wanted to stay has stated as much.

Not sure if everyone is so glad he is leaving as a defense mechanism..or they really are. Considering the lack of players on the roster, I am having trouble understanding the "fine with me" etc etc attitudes. You could tell he was still not nearly 100 % physically, but I felt he was a skilled big guy who could do a few things. There were some games I wanted him on the court instead of Govan (I said SOME games!) Anyway, obviously wish him well, but I am sorry to see him go. I think he would have played important minutes this year.

Akoy is an extremely underrated player. I would say he played the toughest ball of anyone on the team this past year. That being said, he wasn't going to get the type of minutes he probably wanted with Derrickson, Govan Walker and -hopefully- Mourning on the roster. Could be a problem if he goes somewhere that needs him.

I would presume that his meeting with Patrick did not leave him feeling comfortable for whatever reason. He had some grit and hustle that we needed; we may end up with a single-digit roster yet! (although maybe Akoy also knew, or at least sensed, that we might be adding someone who could take minutes from him.

At this point it is a rebuild. Want to fill the scholarships with top quality players who want to by in going forward. As I mentioned earlier, could be coached by THE HOF Bigman @ Bigman U and deciding to leave???

Sorry to see him go and had thought he would thrive under Ewing. Agau showed defensive instincts that I assume the new coach would value. Also he was aggressive around the basket. My only complaint with him--and all other Hoya bigs last year--was his penchant for putting the ball on the floor and trying to drive through traffic leading inevitably to a turnover. The only other quibble was his shooting from distance.

This matters, and it's hard to believe that the minutes aren't there with this roster. I'm guessing that he just didn't want to be on the hilltop, so that's that.

Sometimes you just have to step up to the challenge. He would be behind Govan & Derrickson at most. Looks like Walker (and potentially Mourning) will have his number called early and often.

I would love to see Mourning get more minutes. We don't get to see what happens in practice, but I've had favorable assessments of what I have seen in his limited action in games.

Kid wants to play in the tourney, can't blame him for leaving as that looks like a heavy lift here...

Maybe the big man from Princeton would move ahead of Akoy if he came here?

Maybe the big man from Princeton would move ahead of Akoy if he came here? I hope your being sarcastic but...... If he's worried about that, than I would suggest he transfer down a level or two. This is big time college athletics.

I have heard he was a really good guy and seemed to really enjoy being a Georgetown student. My guess is he knows he only has a limited time left in college and wants to make sure he gets a chance to play in the NCAA tournament, which is not a sure thing with the Hoyas for next year, or possibly the year after. He played hard when given the opportunity. I wish him luck wherever he goes.
