Too bad! This was in the cards for a while now, but playing time was available here. According to a friend of his at school, Agau thought of himself as a two-&-done future NBAer. It has taken him longer. Strange that he wouldn't want to learn from Ewing and get a graduate degree from GU. Wish him the best. Husker, any insight post-decision? It is not my place to speak on be-half of Akoy. He was home over the weekend to attend my oldest son's wedding. We had a heart felt discussion about this and at that point he wasn't close to a decision and was solely concentrating on graduation. We haven't spoke to Akoy since Sunday morning. I can assume things from our talk(like some of the CLUELESS people giving there 2cents worth on this topic). And for some of the know-it-alls, don't plan on seeing him at Nebraska, even with 2 former college teammates there.
Never said or claimed to be a I know it all. Just said I wouldn't be surprised based on the fit and familiarity basketball wise. Funny how I championed your boy Agau as he is leaving, stating how he got better as the season went on, called him our best interior defender, speaking highly on his future and how he should get a lot interest from a variety a programs (more offers than some on here expect), also stating he was a team first guy as a host for several visiting recruits/transfers, as well as saying I was sad that he was leaving because of his best basketball was a head of him. I congratulated him and wished him luck in the future. Everything I said was positive about Agau Akoy. I HAVE NEVER taken a shot at your boy! Always been positive, while several others were crapping on him throughout the season and even today they are kicking him on the way out the door but I'm the one you take a shot at because I gave my opinion that I wouldn't be surprised based on familiarity, location and fit? Hmmm.....interesting!

He's not changing what we do. I love him as a kid and representative for the university. We can certainly use the 10-15 minutes he provides. But if he wants to leave, he certainly isn't the difference between a winning or losing season, or vice versa. He's simply ok. He avg'd 15 mpg last season so we'd have to think that number would jump up this season.. What I didn't realize is that Agua led the team in rebounding(5.3) during the conference season in only 15.2 mpg.. His per 40 number rebounding #(11.9) for the season beat Govan's #(9.5) by more than 2.. For the conference season it was even more stark, 13.9 for Agua to 8.0 for Govan.. I get that next season will be a lost year but Agua would have been one of the teams better players.. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/georgetown/2017.htmlAbsolutely agree! Great use of analytics Etomic to demonstrate Agau's loss.

Thanks, Husker, for your response and congrats on your son's wedding. We'll probably get some notion of what he was thinking when he announces his next destination for grad school. Best of luck to the soon-to-be Hoya alum...

No excuses but some of the crap got under my skin quickly and "my jaw started flapping before the brain was engaged", just got directed towards the wrong person!!!!!

No worries! Appreciate the apology as some on here don't have the decency or the high character to do so. I do sincerely wish Akoy Agau success wherever he ends up (unless he playing against Georgetown). I think he's a heck of player who always gives full effort. Wish he never got hurt. Will never get to see him at 100% in a Hoyas jersey. I personally do expect him to be heavily recruited for the 3rd time because he brings a mixture of size, skill, athleticism and effort. I'm sure he will be impactful wherever he ends up.

so is Trey staying or not? this means huge minutes for govan and derrickson with trey (maybe??) and walker getting big reserve minutes. could open up PT for muresan also.

I will miss him. He played with an energy that stood out especially this past season. His role with recruiting -- showing visitors around -- should also not be overlooked. And, because of his injuries, we never saw him at his best.

No offense to the young man - but unless Muresan can somehow make a quantum leap by November, he is not ready to contribute any significant minutes.

I appreciate all the efforts that the walk ons put in and think they are a valuable part of the team. Their hard work in practice makes everyone else on the team a better player and improves the teams performance. Even with all that said I don't think Muresan is going to see any significant time this year. Coach Ewing is going to bring in at least a few more players, at just about every position, so unless we see injuries during the year I don't expect many minutes from any of the walk ons.

There were rumors swirling around before Ewing was named HC that Akoy might transfer. Also rumors of some knee issues, perhaps a meniscus. He seemed like a good teammate ala ML Carr on the sidelines and, when finally healthy, was OK on the court ... but he's definitely in the role player category. I don't think he'd be a major difference maker, even with the depleted roster. Good luck to him and congrats on graduating.

If Akoy thought of himself as a 2 and done NBA candidate, he should pursue a graduate degree in Astronomy because he lives in an alternate universe. Seriously

I liked Agau a lot and thought he was a solid player for us. It's too bad but unrealistic to think nobody would leave given all the stuff that happened with JT3. And, of course, his graduating and being able to play somewhere else I am sure factored into his decision making. I wish him the best.

This is a loss for the Hoyas, no doubt about it. I thought Agua would be a nice piece to the puzzle this season. However, I can totally understand his desire to leave, given he may not get the 6th year of eligibility, and would be starting over again with a completely new staff if he stayed. Perhaps he can get to the NCAAs next season and be a key contributor?
Congratulations to Akoy on his degree from Georgetown, wish him nothing but the best in and outside of basketball!

Ewing & him seem to be in agreement on the move. My guess is it is an academic, health, or combination move. Good luck to him and no need to really speculate further. If Mourning reconsiders there are definitely minutes to be had as Marcus & Jessie can & likely will get into foul trouble.

If Mourning reconsiders there are definitely minutes to be had as Marcus & Jessie can & likely will get into foul trouble. I agree that Mourning would likely get minutes at this point, solely because we don't have enough bodies, and both Derrickson and Govan have had fouling problems (hopefully something Ewing can fix). But, it also would not surprise me if Walker merits playing time over Mourning. I realize people are higher on Mourning than me, but I still think it's noteworthy that he didn't get much playing time. I realize some chalk that up to JT3, but I truly believe that if Mourning was equal to or better than Agau and the other bigs, he would have played more. Obviously, with Agau out of the picture, that does open up minutes if Walker doesn't take them.

From the limimted sample size of the prior season, I have no idea why Mourning was basically not allowed on the court last year. Obviously we all have out opinions, and none are based on much actual game action, unfortunately. But he is pretty good fundementally with the ball, and on our sorry team, should've gotten some chances. Will be real interesting to see what happens under Coach Ewing.

Obviously, with Agau out of the picture, that does open up minutes if Walker doesn't take them. There were stretches in Kenner League where I thought Trey could be the second best player on our team. But that's the problem, it was just Kenner League. JT3 is an experienced head coach so I'm not going to pretend that me seeing Trey play thirty mins in an inconsequential summer game gives me a right to say who should and should not have gotten more minutes. At the same time though, there were stretches last season where the only thing on my mind was literally how much worse could it get if we gave Trey a shot? Might as well give the kid a chance and see how it goes, some players play much more intensely on the court than during practices. I'm hopeful Trey sticks around and Ewing gives him some opportunities to show if he's got it or not.
