I have not watched South Carolina play this year until tonight vs. Marquette - PJ Dozier is really good. He is flying all over the court, pushing the tempo, scoring, making plays for teammates, etc. It would have been really nice to have seen him in a Georgetown uniform. I thought S. carolina was making a mistake playing at Marquette's fast tempo, but S. Carolina was great. They kept the pedal down the full game, and are now blowing Marquette out with under 4 minutes left. They played with great aggressiveness on both ends - it was like a different sport from what we have been watching with the hoyas for the past 2 years. Frank Martin may be a bit of a nutcase, but he had his team completely ready to compete tonight. And Marquette is even worse then us defensively, they offered almost no resistance.

Pretty sure Marquette would have lost anyway, but I have no idea how South Carolina gets a home game as a 7 seed.

Marquette kind of fell apart, but there's really no excuse for letting a state school play in their home state if there's any alternative at all. It's been an issue for seemingly forever. That JaJuan Johnson kid will be a thorn in our side next year though. He's got a nice game.

The tournament committee don't naturally place teams based on the record or season profile but based on if they can sell tickets. No way South Carolina should have gotten basically a home game against Marquette. I hate Duke with a passion but as a 2 seed they got screwed having to play South Carolina in South Carolina. That being I said I hope South Carolina beats the crap out of Duke in this quasi home game. No need to worry about JaJuan Johnson. He's a senior and is done eligibility wise.

Didn't these Greenville games get moved out of NC because of the "bathroom bill"?
Not that the committee had to put SC there, but even if these games had stayed in NC, there's a significant geographical advantage for SC fans vs Marquette fans.

How fans travel and how well the school travels are significant factors in the seeding process. St the end of the day it's a money making businesse. As sat as Duke. This is one of those "we are penalizing Duke were fair, see" but the reality is that SC is a stones throw away from Duke so there will be like advantage for SC. It's not like Duke is playing at a non neutral court half way around the country.

Basically if Butler wins today, this is the first "Cinderella-less" tournament I can remember. I guess if you squint URI over an injured Oregon team or USC over a flawed Baylor team counts but I don't recall so few surprises in any tournament. Even MTSU won last year and Minnesota is in its first tournament in 5 years so that's not even that big an upset.

And the "upsets" like MTSU over an overseeded Minnesota and X over Maryland were almost a given. I guess if Wisconsin beats Villanova that would be considered an upset but it really isn't that far fetched since Wisconsin is actually pretty good talent wise. Northwest's, St Mary's, MtSu are the only real cinderellas left. Michigan Wichita state and X are the fake Cinderella S but will be called Cinderella if they keep winning.

Do you think DePaul fans say that anyone is a thorn in their side?

Not sure where I got the idea Johnson was an underclassman though.

Was at the Marquette win this year and thought it was our best game. Left Verizon thinking, like many Hoya fans did, that we could easily win our next 4 games since we looked so good against Marquette - a team that beat Nova. But it was all a mirage. Marquette can shoot 3's but that's about it. And they don't play defense so we looked unusually good.

I dislike W. Va rather intensely. Not 'Cuse intensely, but they're up there. Sorry to see them outmuscling ND so far.

Same here, but I loved the matter of fact response that Huggins delivered on sidelines when he was asked "You don't have long, but how are you going to celebrate heading to the Sweet 16?" -- "I'm gonna go recruit." That's the mentality.

Reporter asked Bob Huggins how he was going to celebrate his sweet 16 victory, his response was.. "I'm gonna go recruit"

Since we beat WV in the NIT, pretty sure they've gone to the S16 twice. I don't like them or Huggins either, but they made adjustments and have come back as a good program. Sigh.

But some of their fans are undeserving and unfortunately play into negative stereotypes about the state. The aftermath of the PE Jr. "no goaltending" game in Morgantown was not pretty and soured me on them.
