You'll know we have hit rock bottom if in the future they refer to Georgetown in the tourney as a cinderella team.

Wow I feel so bad for that kid from Vandy... I think I'd prefer our season to going to the tourney and losing that way...

Villanova hasn't scored in the first five minutes against Mount St. Marys.

Villanova hasn't scored in the first five minutes against Mount St. Marys. But 3 years ago they were a #4-seed... oh, wait...

Jock Landale from St. Mary's is an impressive big man. His footwork is pretty amazing and his drop step works well. Even though the game has changed to a guard dominated one, he would likely be a huge plus on any team. And VCU refuses to double him. I'd be losing my mind if I were a VCU fan right now. But then again, at least I'd be watching my team in the tournament.

You'll know we have hit rock bottom if in the future they refer to Georgetown in the tourney as a cinderella team. For that to happen, Georgetown has to make the tournament. Based on where we are right now, I wouldn't mind being "insulted" in that manner.

Down goes MD. So sad we couldn't close them out.

Checked St. Mary's team page, they have 4 RS kids playing on this squad plus it looks as though 3 of the 4 freshman they brought in are taking an RS year as well..
I know this a dead horse to many on the board but the narrative that it's not a common practice seems wrong..

I know this a dead horse to many on the board but the narrative that it's not a common practice seems wrong.. I think it just goes to show that there are a lot of ways to build a winning program. The key is to find a system that works and commit to perfecting it and not giving up when times are tough. Contrary to what some think, I don't think there is one particular system or one particular mode of coaching that works. Of course, in this context, I'm not sure that you could build a major conference program around players who stay in a system for five years. But I think you can build a winning program in a lot of different ways if you commit to particular principles and stick with it.

I think you all are overrating Providence and underrating USC. As much as I wanted Providence to win (as my antipathy toward USC should be well known), I expected USC to win, and I wasn't even surprised that they came from so far behind. Providence just isn't very good. I thought it was a great job by Cooley to get them this far. They were on fire in the first half last night, and they just couldn't keep it up. I don't expect USC to beat SMU (although they've already done it once this year), but they managed to get this far even though they lost their third best player for 18 games. They're not a bunch of bums.
I was delighted to see Northwestern win, as my dad was a Northwestern alumnus, but I hated for it to be that way. Really feel sorry for that kid from Vandy.

Somewhere Sam Jefferson was feeling a twinge of sympathy... Ouch. Bad memories. Although I will take that compared to where we are today.

Just got this as a news update from our friends at ESPN: On March 17, 1989, Princeton stifles Alonzo Mourning in the first half and nearly knocks off the Hoyas in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Video via @espn App www.espn.com/video/clip?id=18931388Screw you ESPN!

They really hates us, don't they? Ironic because the Hoyas helped to make their channel a national brand!

And USC comes from double digits down again and beats SMU again. Crap, anyway. But like I said, they're not a bunch of bums.

Unless Kentucky or UCLA goes down tonight, it will have been a remarkably stable tournament for top seeds. MTSU over Minnesota was hardly a surprise, and other than that the top seeds have been pretty unscathed. Even vulnerable teams like Florida and Virginia won. Some pretty good upsets on the 6-11 line, but that's hardly anything exceptional with the parity in college basketball these days.
I think the most frustrating thing for me was yesterday watching 15-loss Vandy in the tournament and playing well. They were in because they got some marquee wins, played a tough schedule, and won enough of their other games to have just enough wins to get in the field. That could have been us. We aren't in the tournament this year because we couldn't beat some good teams. We're not in the field because we got swept by Providence and Seton Hall, lost 2 of 3 to St. John's, and split with DePaul.
