Ouch.
I am thinking that our Coach is being let down by our GM, to use a pro sports analogy.

Or maybe Georgetown is morphing into the NCAA's version of the Washington Wizards, with the crowd energy to match? "This was not a marquee matchup, by any definition, and the atmosphere was apt. The announced attendance was 12,645 β about 7,000 shy of a sellout. At tipoff, fewer were there. The scoreboard was stuck at 0-0 for several minutes...The place had all the verve of a library." www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/article119852478.html

Except that it's college basketball and the energy should be led by the students, who come from all over the country/globe. They're not even showing up, let alone showing enthusiasm.

Georgetown has 7,600 undergraduates (approximately). At any given time, there are probably at least 50% who would never bother attending a game out of lack of interest. Maybe as high as 60% or even higher. So let's say 15% attended. That's 1,140. Or let's be generous - even 25% of the ENTIRE student body would be only 1,900 people. Now, 25% is totally unrealistic - I am just using the numbers to demonstrate that student turnout really doesn't affect overall attendance much. I mean, if 10% of the student body shows up on any given day, that's 760 people. Ultimately, it's not making a huge difference to the overall attendance number, though obviously it would be nice to have them anyway.

The fact is, student attendance is definitely down (last year too), and student section energy is borderline non-existent. That hasn't always been the case, and unless I missed something, I don't think the size of the student body has decreased.

Our attendance is an embarrassment by the student body but also those that think this program can play in a NBA arena. Complete joke and I love to hear that playing at Verizon is our largest expense because there is no where else to play in DC. I guarantee if you tore Mcdonough down now that you have the practice facility we could figure something out. This school or maybe this board is stuck with a loser mentality instead of figuring a way forward. Not to worry, I'm here for you unless they ban me for free thinking.

Are you going to pay for this and get all the approvals necessary from the city and neighborhood to make it happen? I think everyone here would love a real campus arena but it's not happening anytime soon unless someone dumps a truckload of cash on the university for that purpose - and even then it might not happen.

I apologize if you were not intending to attack me as you are one of the better posters on this site and I've always enjoyed reading your posts. So why not do the on campus arena though, is it only money? That can be solved, just need a vision.

Does anyone else watch Nova play? I know I'm just torturing myself but damn. I look at those guys and just marvel at how well they are playing right now. Josh Hart? Really? During a timeout with Nova up 18 they miced Jay Wright. He demanded that they not let up. Reminded them that Temple came back from 18 down against Florida State. They went out and upped the lead to 25. Cant wait to play them Probably the only real test of how good we are. Please oh please let us hang with the BE leaders so that last home game against Nova will be meaningful.

Bump.
So I found this thread almost completely by accident while I was sifting through the archives looking for something else.
Itβs somewhat amusing and beyond depressing that 5+ years later someone just started a new thread about literally the same topic and asked almost the exact same question verbatim.

Good old Eagle54. Dude spearheaded the Fire JTIII movement and then Keyser Soze-ed this place after he was fired.
