Allen Iverson has finally grown up. The wisdom that comes out of this man's mouth is truly amazing--of course from his perspective. I think he would inspire a new generation of Georgetown basketball players, especially guards where we seem to have such a hard time gaining traction.

Can we bring back the Bradley Hayes debate? It sounds good right now.

Moderators, you have my permission to move this to "Basketball". Thanks!

I guess the closest thing right now is the Blue & Gray board, so maybe put this there.

This is loco.
That said, I bet it'd improve our guard recruitment rate.

Any concern about the potential hiring of a basketball staff member, in a position such as assistant coach or its equivalent, who has yet to obtain a college degree? Just wondering. . .not taking any position.

I know for a fact that some highly placed members of the GU hierarchy have suggested this. It obviously hasn't gone anywhere yet but it was discussed.

Not a flame, a serious question: are you stupid?
Not only has he never coached, it's pretty universally agreed upon that he's a pretty bad person.

Can we kick POD off for that? Seriously though, that really is outrageous. It is NOT universally agreed upon that he's a pretty bad person. What's the matter with you? Get that crap off this board. Not to mention the "stupid" comment.

Who says he actually has to sit on the bench and do any sort of coaching? Just let him be involved in recruiting and the like. Obviously there are serious risks involved. But weren't there serious risks involved when we took a chance on him the first time?

But weren't there serious risks involved when we took a chance on him the first time? For any number of reasons, from NCAA rules regarding volunteer coaches to requirements that athletics staff have a minimum of a bachelor's degree, this isn't happening.

He doesn't have a degree. He can't be on staff without one. It's that simple

In theory, Allen Iverson can be on the team as director of basketball operations, or Special Assistant to the coach, etc.
I think this is what Calpari did with Rod Strickland (who never graduated from DePaul). At some point between Memphis, Kentucky and being hired as an assistant coach at USF, Strickland did get enough hours to get his degree.

But weren't there serious risks involved when we took a chance on him the first time? For recruiting it looks like you do have to have a degree. That is why Rod Strickland couldn't recruit at Memphis or Kentucky. Now as an assistant coach at USF he can recruit because he finally received his degree. southflorida.247sports.com/Board/59416/Contents/New-USF-Assistant-Coach-Rod-Stricklands-Bachelor-Degree-Hearing-28137409Rod Strickland Northern Illinois University Without Walls Non Traditional Degree Hearing:

Not to mention the "stupid" comment. Sorry if you'd like to deify the guy, but he's not a good person, in my opinion, and that's "pretty universally" agreed upon. An absentee father, domestic abuser, and alcoholic to the detriment of his family? Yeah, I'm okay with that characterization. deadspin.com/allen-iverson-has-destroyed-the-legacy-of-allen-iverson-1708683536It's like a Cuse fan saying "Put Eric Devendorf on staff." Both have a history of serious character flaws and substance abuse, neither has a degree, and neither has ever coached at any level.

Listening to some of the comments, and brushing academics aside for a moment, based on a few of the comments, you seem to prescribe to the idea that certain individuals should just flat out be cancelled. All I say is he who is without sin cast the first stone. I suggest that you watch the interview with Iverson. He is an intelligent guy. Not to mention, he is the most famous product Georgetown has created as well as a player who changed the face of the NBA. I still say--and I will maintain--it is redemption time for Allen Iverson!
